14 Tasting Notes
This is one of my favorite oolong teas. I have heard a number of times how Teavana’s oolongs are overpriced and not as good quality as other oolongs from other sources. I just went through about five different oolong samples from a few different sources and none were as good as this tea. I am a student and when I drink oolong at school I tend to put a small amount in a tumbler and add hot water throughout the day. This tea holds up really well through multiple steeps and doesn’t lose flavor until I have added the very last bit of hot water I brought with me. The flavor is very floral and has some vegetable notes as an aftertaste. The leaves are very beautiful as they unfurl and the color is light yellow. This tea will be a staple in my tea collection and I recommend it for anyone interested in an easy to drink oolong.

This tea is great if steeped for 1 min in 175F water. It is very light and without bitterness. The Jasmine taste is refreshing and you can get hints of citrus. The smell is floral without being too perfumey. I might increase my steeping time to 2 min but when I tried 3 min it was very bitter.

At first I wasn’t impressed with this tea. It gave me heartburn and I found the taste to be kind of bitter and not very exciting. I rebrewed it yesterday “grandpa style” in a pot and it was much better than before. I used about 6 balls with ~1000mL of water over an hour. The tea is very dark and heavy, but had more of an earthy flavor and less bitterness. It also tasted more like the unsweetened cocoa flavor often associated with this type of tea. I am still on the fence about whether I would buy it again but I think it could be an excellent morning tea. I am going to give it another try and see if I can perfect steeping times and quantity of water to avoid bitterness.
