I love this! I bought mine in the UK and its called Sage there but it is the exact same machine. It works well and is probably one of my best buys :)

I asked my sweet husband for this for Christmas and he remembered!!! I’ve only used it a few times so far but I love it. I am still learning the correct amount of tea. So far each time the tea has been a little weak so I just need to keep experimenting. I love the “keep warm” feature so I can have a cup while I get ready for work and then take a to go cup.

I got this for Christmas (2013) and it has become my best friend. It makes the perfect cup of tea.

sherapop

My issue with this sort of contraption is flavor residue. Are you brewing different teas right there in the carafe???

RandomCarpeDiem

I agree flavour residue is an issue, I clean it in between each use and I also clean it with baking soda now and again.

Oh, what a lucky girl am I!!! I got a Breville for Christmas! I really enjoy it. I thought I wouldn’t like 500 ml minimum. I got used to that very quickly since it has a keep warm feature. Since I received the Breville and got a bunch of new teas for Christmas… I have been drinking a ton of tea. Okay, yes, I am going to the bathroom a lot. I enjoy the auto feature. It is great way to start the day.

I just have to add some more about the Breville! Oh my gosh I love it. I’ve had it about a month and every time I use it i"m in love with it all over again. It is so convenient . I haven’t had a single over steeped or under steeped tea since I got it. When I’ve mentioned the Breville to others and apologize for the price, I’ve had many say that they have spent more than $300 on a cappuccino machine so $250 isn’t really that unreasonable. By the way, my husband only spent $190 using a Black Fridays coupon at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I just have to say, Buy one, buy one now. For beginners it would really take the guess work out of steeping with a great cup every time For experienced tea people it will just add to the joy :D

I LOVE my Husband!!! He got this for me as a present. I really, really, really wanted it but felt bad asking for it or buying it for myself. I showed it to him while in Teavana and he went back and got one for me. He said he shopped around for it and the price was the same every where. Teavana seemed to have the best return policy-after reading reviews and talking with them about it. Williams Sonoma was a close second but he felt that since Teavana introduced it to me, he would patronize them.
I can think of nothing but CONS for this machine. It is a dream for brewing different teas. I will note, that yesterday, I tried to brew a cup and it would not start. I almost cried, how sad is that! So, I looked at the kettle and wiped it down. I took it off the base and wiped it off too. I let it ‘dry’ for a couple hours and then tried it again. BaBam-it worked, and I danced! Lesson learned-do not get water near the base, be extra careful about this.
I absolutely LOVE my Breville. It is the best, just like my Husband!

OK, so I’m a bit late to the party. I won’t rehash everything else that has been said about this, but its all true! What a great machine. I find myself drinking more tea now that I have it (not a bad thing). This won’t replace all of my other pots, and I would not want it to. I still have a small collection of Yixing pots and Gaiwan’s for Gong Fu. This is not a pot for Pu Er. I only have two (very small) negatives. The fill lines are behind the handle and somewhat hard to see. Secondly, the basket, is somewhat difficult to clean. I find that the leaves tend to stick to the inside a bit and are harder to detach under running water then some of my other baskets. Other then that, just a fantastic machine.

I really really wanted this product and was given it as a Christmas gift in 2012. Love at first steep. The appliance is so easy to use and the instructions were really clear and easy to understand. I am a tea girl. My boyfriend knows it, my girlfriends know it and my family knows it. I love how you can make any type of tea with this tea maker and it keeps it warm, you can automatically set it. I started working from home at the end of 2012, so this was a perfect gift to get in my beverages throughout the day. So much less hassle, don’t have to worry about forgetting you brewed a cup of tea, it keeps the tea warm for you, it allows you to brew it to your liking.

In April, my tea makers handle was loose and I called Breville and they dealt with it right away. I boxed up my tea maker and sent it to them and they sent me a new one within 2 weeks of me reporting the issue. Great customer service, fast quick. I did have tea depression for the 2 weeks without it, but it made me appreciate it all the more and when I got it back, I will never be without it again. This is the perfect gift for the tea drinker, especially if they don’t drink coffee (like me.)

Pros:
- beautiful to look at
- doesn’t take up a whole lot of space on the counter
- easy to use
- doubles as a kettle as well for other things you might need boiling water for
- works with many different kinds of teas
- I drink more tea because of this
- easy company to deal with for warranty issues

Cons:
- expensive, get it on sale to ease yourself with the price – but do know it is worth every penny
- it’s somewhat easy to clean but not as easy as it could be – because of the base not being able to be submerged in water
- makes minimum 500ML so sometimes you want just a quick small cup, but have to make at least 2 cups of tea

What others have mentioned and what I have to say about that:
The Plastic issue:
Mine was labelled that it is BPA free and for the most part none of the tea comes in contact with any of the plastic pieces. The carafe is made of glass and German glass at that, the handle is acrylic, the lid is combination of metal and plastic. Again, the only thing that comes in contact is the basket which is part metal, and a little plastic. The basket lid is acrylic plastic. For those that have said it’s a deal breaker for them, I’d like to know if they eat canned food, use aluminum water bottles (which are coated with a plastic inside,) etc. For me it is not a deal breaker. I have never had tea taste like plastic, and basically I think if they get tea that tastes like plastic they aren’t using the product correctly.

Customer service:
AMAZING. Great to deal with, didn’t have an issue.

Cleaning:
I will say that at first I felt that my tea was starting to taste like other teas I had brewed in there. However, I have since become more diligent with rinsing it out after each use and emptying the tea leaves and not letting them sit overnight, or for extended periods of time (like it says in the manual.) I also clean it with baking soda only, which does wonders. I put a generous amount of baking soda and boil over the max hot water limit with the basket and more baking soda in it. I let this side for an hour. I empty out the carafe and then take a cloth/old clean sock/paper towel and wipe. The unit still has to be hot for this to work as well. When you wipe it, you will see all the tannin from the tea that has been previously steeped come off. It makes your tea maker look like new and the brown tinge that develops over time is eliminated from the tannin being removed. This goes for the basket. the carafe and the lids. Then I reboil with clean water. Let stand. Rinse and voila. I do this once a month to once every two times a month.

Never had an issue with different “smells or tastes.”

All in all I recommend this to ANYONE that has even one canister of loose leaf tea. You will increase your consumption of tea and it will be a joy to drink. One of my friends has bought one and I give them as gifts when I see them on sale for bridal/baby showers. Tea is a very calming and relaxing thing and I believe what better than the gift of relaxation and convenience.

Try to take reviews with a grain of salt, whether positive or negative. Try it, if you don’t like it, take it back :) But I doubt you will once you use it :D

I have finally acquired this beautiful machine about a week ago. I have yet to gave a bad cup of tea from it. Now, this may be because I already know my teas and exactly how I like them. But it is absolutely wonderful to wake up to the perfect cup of tea every morning. And because it is so easy to use and clean and the pot is glass, I’m actually able to enjoy more tea than previously with my DAVIDsTea Steeper.

Pros:
- Perfect cup of tea every time since it always has the exact right water temperature and never over-steeps or under-steeps.
- Auto-start timer so that tea can be ready for drinking at whatever time your little heart desires.
- Keep warm feature keeps your tea at temp for an hour.
- “Lower Basket” feature to steep again for any amount of time, i.e. no timer, after the steeping process is finished (see the cons section for more on this)
- Allows you to customize the water temp (in 5 degree inctements) and steep time (in 30 second increments). This is wonderful for me because I prefer to steep my black teas in 205 degree water rather than 212.

Cons:
- Keep warm feature has no beep to signal that your hour is up. The display turns off and the tea starts cooling. So you do have to pay attention to this.
- The auto-start feature can’t save the current time, so it has to be set every single time. Now, this really only takes about 45 seconds, but it’s kinda frustrating that such a magical machine can’t keep the current time in memory.
- The lower basket feature doesn’t have a timer, so it is extremely easy to over-steep the tea here. I’ve only used it once, and I don’t see it being a commonly used feature for me.

All in all, definitely worth the money!

I bought this a few days ago, and already I want to roll my eyes at all of the tea filters I have now. Really? Who makes tea that way? ;)

Obviously, I’ve spoiled myself with this machine. It’s beautiful, works perfectly, and is easy to clean. My only (small) beefs are that rooibos still goes everywhere when steeping (yet the pour spout does an excellent job of keeping the crud in the pot), and that I can only keep things heated for about 30 minutes or so. Maybe it’s an hour (I read that somewhere, blanking out where) however it seems more like 30 minutes to me.

Other than that, it’s sheer perfection. My 5-year-old and I enjoy watching it rise and fall on basket mode, our private meditative bonding moment.

CelebriTEA

Thinking I may need one of these in the future :-)

MissB

It’s completely changed how I drink tea. I still have yet to figure out how to increase the keeping tea hot/warm time from one hour, however I’m drinking in excess of several liters a day – much more than I ever did before. Amazon has them for the cheapest that I’ve seen, although I grabbed mine at Teavana on sale.

CelebriTEA

After Christmas some time, I will have to order one.
I drink enough tea for it to be a worthwhile purchase.
I have an electric teakettle, but it is no where as nice.

Tuscanteal

Miss B – unfortunately there is no way to keep it hot after an hour…

As for the sale price, if you don’t want to buy it online, you can go into any Futureshop or Bestbuy and they will do a price match. I would agree I drink WAY more tea and it’s a crowd pleaser when people come over. They think it’s the coolest thing since sliced bread. Love it :)

I got a refurbished one with an extended warranty on Amazon.

It is amazing. I love that it can just heat water or do the brewing, too, depending on which I want. I also chose this model over the presets-only one because I absolutely must have the ability to pick my own temps. This heats the water very quickly and the warming option keeps the temp quite steady.

The steeping function works excellently.

I love the fact that I can set it to make my tea for when I get up. Just awesome.

The brew basket is a very nice size. I make a full pot 1-2 times a day and it gives lots of space for my teas to unfurl.

And it’s pretty.

I was concerned about value vs cost, but this has been so worth it. I love to brew my tea myself in my various pots and cup, so the heat-only functions are the basics I need. And for those many times I want to wake up to my tea already made or just want it made conveniently this is just awesome.

Worth every penny so far and with my 3 year warranty I feel comfortable with its cost.

This is absolutely my favorite thing in my kitchen. I bought one on a steep discount (I used to work at Teavana) as a birthday gift to me, but if this one ever dies, I’ll happily shell out full retail price for its replacement.

I just can’t say enough good things about my Breville. Having the ability to control my water temperature is a dream, especially since I tend to like temperature-sensitive teas, and it’s great that the water heats as fast as it does. I’ve had mine for months, and the magic of the basket lowering and raising itself still hasn’t worn off.

My one warning with this is not to get too excited about the “Keep Warm” function. If you drink blacks and oolongs (and greens too, probably), the “Keep Warm” function keeps the water hot enough to continue to brew the tea, even though the basket has been raised. The result – bitter tea. What I do with mine is drink what I want, let it cool down, and then just reheat whatever tea is left for a second mug later in the day. This doesn’t seem to cause the same issue.

I just love my Breville. If you’re drinking at least 16oz of tea a day, you need one of these. Seriously.

Well well ,on the outside this tea machine looks great lots of great features ,, lots of good reviews , check out the u-tube vids.
But atlass this is not the machine for me , let me explain ,
This machine is probably ok if you enjoy full fermented tea , black , red , assam, tetley, red rose, lipton. etc. where the tea is very strong.

It seems to me that the strong tea will mask the “chemical taste” that the breville leaves in the pot of tea. but if your a fan of white , green , matcha, and even oolong tea you can detect the chemical left in the tea pot.
I Started to be in denial re the chemical taste, for i payed $300 Canadian dollars for this fancy machine IT MUST BE A Fantastic Machine ,,.. but after a while even some friends were noting it ( the funny taste).
so i contacted the manufacture, and they indicated it was the “new smell” of the machine . So as instructed i cleaned it out with vinegar , then baking soda ,many many times yet still the taste was there. Breville sent me another two of these machines .. to no avail they all tasted funny with all light teas. I wish this wasn’t the case , what i use it for is a variable kettle for my teas now.

I suspect that it’s the large silicone gasket that separates the german made glass carafate section to the heating base.
Has any one noted this ?? am I just crazy ?? … wait don’t answer that.
need feedback .,, ollie

I don’t actually own this, so I’m not reviewing it, but I’d just like to say this is very cool, as you get perfect tea every time. However, this isn’t… Traditional. Where’s the tradition, the culture, the past time of hand brewing the perfect cup?

Got this when Teavana had 25% off sale so cost less than $200.00! Love Love Love it!! I have used it everyday, several times a day since getting it. My husband calls it the magic machine. It does everything a tea maker should-you can’t mess up a pot of tea. It’s small enough on the counter, looks great and does what it says and more!!!
