467 Tasting Notes
I’m supposed to be on a buying hiatus… so I’ve been sneaking bagged teas in with my groceries. This tea has a strong blackcurrent aroma and taste. I’ve made several cups before writing my note so that I could tweak it a little. First was too sweet (my fault) tasted rather like blackcurrent jelly. Second was good, but no black tea favor. Third resteep was a little more mellow. It still has a nice blackcurrent aroma and flavor without hitting me in the face. It’s a pretty sweet tea so it doesn’t need much sweetener, even if you’re a sweet addict like it me.
Preparation
Nice relaxing tea, great for sitting and taking a break. Has sort of artificial aroma but not so evident in the taste. Can’t really taste the oolong but that’s okay. I like it a lot which is lucky since I got a pound when it was 75% off.
Preparation
This tea is not among my favorites. It has nothing particularly wrong with it. Mild musty taste, some what vegetal. I probably will not buy it again. Plain darjeelings are not my favorite anyway. Luckily, I don’t have much of it.
Preparation
I went out to eat and ordered tea… surprise, surprise! They actually had some teas that looked awesome. I din’t even have to get out one of the back up tea bags that I carry with me. I choose the Black Mixed Berry because black teas don’t seem to be as sensitive to temp and brewing time. I really liked it. This will be my go to tea to keep in my purse. I never thought I’d find a lowly teabag tea that I like this much. However, it probably isn’t for everyone and it is quite fruity (as you can imagine from the name, lol). I will definitely get this and keep it in stock. A mass produced teabag tea. Who would have thought it!
Steeping time and temp are just a guess.
Flavors: Berries
Preparation
I don’t want to be snotty but I have both the Breville and the Zojirushi. Although the Zojirushi was fine for me at first, I still had trouble with over and under steeping. The Breville is soooo much better. I know the Breville is more expensive ($250) but I got it on sale at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $190. I know that they are not completely comparable but the additional money is well worth it to me.
After all the wonderful suggestions about where to start on my Earl Grey adventure, I decided to start with basic, basics. I tried good old teabags! Haven’t had a teabag in eons. I just started with Twinings because I could find it in the grocery store and it didn’t cost much. I like it. Nice aroma, good taste. Something I could drink a lot.I have gotten into teas that are more exciting and it was nice to go back to simple. I don’t think I’ll skip my more interesting teas but I will have this in my rotation of teas. Now I think I expand and try some others. I had so many suggestions (Thanks!) that I was pretty overwhelmed. Now that I have an idea what a basic EG tastes like, I can move to variations.
Now that I have had a chance to drink a little more EG I like it even more. If this is the ‘boring’ Earl Grey, I can’t wait to see/taste what’s next to try.
Good job!! Twinings EG was my first step into the more “elegant varieties”. Howeve I just feel that you don’t really experience the full bloom that you could with the loose leaf. I tried they’re loose leaf… Huge difference. Plus the twinings website usually always has a promo of some sort and a tin of loose leaf only cost about 4$. Overall, welcome to your journey with the Earl!!!
Another rather weak Teavana tea. I really don’t know where they get their suggested amounts. I can’t seem to get much real flavor. It was sold as in an ice tea set. Didn’t get much flavor from it hot or cold. Nothing really negative as far as flavor but not enough body to satisfy me.
