29 Tasting Notes
I found this tea on display as i wandered through Harrod’s in London on my most recent trip. I was blown away by the actual scent that permeated from the canister as soon as the seal was broken. They use giant canisters of loose leaves to measure your purchase. It was amazing! The citrus scent of bergamot is definitely amazing for the Earl Grey lovers! Its not super strong to the point of being overwhelming, and plays nicely with the black tea that is such a great star in this blend. I have used the leaves through 3 runs in my Breville, and they are still as strong and pronounced as the first cup! I am really amazed by the amount of flavor, and this may need to become one of my regulars, great tea!!
Flavors: Bergamot, Spices
Hi Josh! I’ve missed seeing you on Steepster! The EG sounds great and I’m happy the Breville has worked out for you. :D
Thanks so much carol! Sorry, things have been quite busy. My wife and I just came back from London and it was tea at every meal it seemed, and it was delicious! I haven’t figured out how to do it but i need to put a couple of reviews on tea rooms. On a separate note, I went to the Doctor Who museum!! It was awesome, so much stuff from all the old seasons and stuff from the new as well, just a great time:)
I was actually pretty impressed with this flavorful green tea. I’m not normally a huge green tea guy, mainly to the lack of flavor or the remnant flavors of grass. However, toss in some woodsy flavors and some berry-esque notes it makes for a tasty cuppa. I can say this one was my normal drowsy morning looking for something different, and i found this in a box full of samples i had received from a friend, and decided to give it a whirl. Well, leave it to the Breville to bring out the flavors at its precise timing and temperature and it worked so nicely. It was full of fresh scents and actually made me think of camping with this poured from a percolator. I didn’t even need any sweetener. Very impressive especially from a green. I don’t know if it was the pine needle looks or the crisp scents and flavors but it really works:)
Flavors: Berries, Flowers, Grass, Pine
This was a nice refreshing taste on earl grey. It destine have as strong of a bergamot flavor as may be expected with something called “epic”, but it was flavorful nonetheless. The leaves gave a nice rich and citrus scent but I’ve noticed after the first 2 runs of leaves, it tends to lighten in color and disperse flavor quickly. A nice tea for some earl grey flavor, but nothing for those die-hard “Earl Grey-ers”. Not what i would call epic.
Flavors: Bergamot, Citrus, Earth
This one definitely gets one of my higher scores. I am normally not one for sweet flavored teas, but the folks at blue raven tea definitely put some effort into this one. I was very pleasantly surprised. I opened the sample to a bright fresh aroma of green tea, vanilla and a fruit of some sort. Looking back at it now i was able to read up a bit and find it to be dragon fruit and pomegranate. This was one of those teas that is naturally sweet, not overpoweringly but you could get away without adding sugar. The fruit and green tea almost make you feel quite a bit better about it when you’re done, like you just sat outside and really appreciated your surroundings. The pomegranate and vanilla are delicious, they are another one of those scents you can pick up from across the room. 3 minutes at 175 degrees F is just perfect for a great cup the lasts for what seems like 4 or 5 steeps. Definitely well worth the $4.50 for the small sample. This may be come a staple in my cupboard:)
Flavors: Honey, Vanilla
This one can go in the books as the first gunpowder green tea that I’ve tried. I really had some great powerful and very well pronounced green tea flavors. Lol, as weird as it sounds it tastes like i just mowed my lawn. Although it is such a strong grassy green with nutty tones included, it also keeps a pleasant fresh crisp taste, which can sometimes dissipate after the second steep or so, but this tasting made it through 3-4 before losing its taste. However, when it begins to lose it, it goes fast. Great green taste and i would recommend to any first time gunpowder tasters.
Flavors: Grass, Nuts
I know its been forever since i last sat to write a review, so here goes… The Buddha must have had some good taste and so do there people at David’s tea because i was very happy with this green/ white blend. Now, normally I find white teas to be extremely mellow and sometimes without a strong overtone from another flavor i often lose sight of the tea and just taste warm water:( But they really did a great job with this one. As soon as you open the tea a very floral and sweet smell of hibiscus flower and green tea. The opening aroma in itself is amazing, so it lends to the inability to wait long enough for the tea to really brew:) The smooth taste of green tea and white tea really work well together in this blend. It might have been the white that absorbed the grassy flavor of a true green and the green lent to the white tea. However the true wonderfulness of this tea really comes from hibiscus flower petal that are so abundant in the tea itself, not mention they bloom out wonderfully and lend even more of that floral and sweet smell to the tea. You can smell it from around the room as it steeps and i can personally say that after 5 steepings this tea blend definitely has some staying power. 5 steeps! and the smell and flavor maintained tip the end…i just wish i had some more:)
Flavors: Flowers, Honey
Now, honestly i was a bit disappointed by this tea. I opened the packaging, i was very impressed by the tight rolled leaves and the bright green fresh leaves. However, after the initial brew which often seems to be the most powerful, i really didn’t get much. Almost to the point of just warmed water with a very subtle flavor. I chalked it up to maybe a bit over temp. I tried a second steeping, but to little avail. I am not sure if it was supposed to be as mellow and subtle as it was but i definitely noticed a lighter color but a more pronounced taste. It was very very subtle. I still have more for another try, but i honestly just wasn’t impressed. Maybe after another try i might get a different result, but i am happy i tried it nonetheless.
