Many thanks to Harney and Sons and their fabulous customer service! I wanted my daughter to try this as a replacement for her breakfast tea that we are having trouble finding, and this doesn’t come in a sample – just a 50 count sachet bag. I added the note “Do you have a sample of Dorchester Breakfast?” at the bottom of my internet order, and when my order arrived they had sent a loose leaf pouch of this at no charge! This is a very good breakfast tea if you like modern-British style breakfast teas as opposed to the earlier pure keemuns or smokey Dutch teas. It is most decidely made to be taken with milk and sugar. It is more astringent than the teas I usually drink, but the addition of milk smooths it out completely. This is a true eye-opening breakfast cup! I agree that you can compare it to PG Tips that grew up in a better boarding school. All that said, I still prefer English Breakfast 100% keemun, Queen Catherine, Royal English Breakfast, and Supreme Breakfast (yum!) for my breakfast teas.

I love Harney! I was looking for loose Midsummer’s Peach in less than one pound amounts. My online inquiry was forwarded to the Millerton shop, and they can send amounts of loose tea over 2 ounces. I am just thrilled! There is a shipping fee, and I have no idea at the cost per ounce, but I am planning on giving it a shot next week.

Glad to hear that they’ve provided you with such good service..they could do with a little redeeming. : )

Wow! That is fantastic news about the Millerton store because there are a few teas I would love to get loose leaf but don’t necessarily want a whole pound, and online that is the only way they are listed.
My tea usually gets here in three days, and they often include free samples. I have seen Mike Harney do special sizes twice – once for a guy who wanted 50 count bags of green tea sachets, once for me when I requested a larger tin of Florence, AND he made Tower of London available after I begged shamelessly for 6 months. :)

They will sell you the “baby” tins for 60 cents each (empty), and those are great for giving samples to friends or for keeping small amounts of tea at hand.

Uniquity – that is terrible that you had shipping issues! You are in Canada, did it just take a really long time to arrive or is the shipping cost prohibitive?

For my own experience (which wasn’t that bad, but very annoying) it was a combo of cost and time. If I am going to pay the 7 or 8 dollars (I think it was in that range) to get it here, I don’t expect to wait a month for it, especially if over one week of that time, nothing was being put together on my order. Ladykittykatt (another Canadian) has also chronicled her Harney shipping woes on Steepster, though in her case she ended up cancelling the order after 2 + plus weeks waiting for it to even be shipped. I have heard many rave reviews about the tea and the customer service though (within the US) and I am glad for that…but I think that if it’s such a hassle to ship outside of the US, maybe they shouldn’t do it!

On the flip side, I love my vanilla comoro and I have a selection of their blacks being graciously sent to me by SimplyJenW, so they do the tea right, and that’s important too!

I understand that must be frustrating! I am fortunate that I have a couple of friends who like their tea and we put our order all together and we always qualify for free shipping. If I order by Wednesday night, I am drinking my tea by Saturday afternoon most of the time. I hope you get to enjoy some great tea from SimplyJenW!

I am a music teacher, tutor, and former homeschool mom (25 years!) who started drinking loose leaf tea about fourteen years ago! My daughters and I have tea every day, and we are frequently joined by my students or friends for “tea time.” Now my hubby joins us, too. His tastes have evolved from Tetley with milk and sugar to mostly unadorned greens and oolongs.

We have learned so much history, geography, and culture in this journey.

My avatar is a mole in a teacup! Long story…
