58 Tasting Notes
The rum and coconut certainly dominate here! I almost think I shouldn’t drive after drinking it and if I drank it before 5 I’d feel I was behaving badly! I’m not tasting the pineapple at all (and I really searched for it!). I was pretty put off by this fact, as the whole pina colada idea was what drew me in in the first place. In my next infusion I will try to monitor the temperature a little better and see if that helps.
Mmm… the nearly intoxicating (but pleasant!) scent led me to purchase this one. The dark red color after infusion is certainly wine-like. The taste is juicy, sweet, and a little tart. Cherry is front and center. The hibiscus does not overwhelm (which in my opinion is a wonderful thing!). And I do love the lemony cranberry flavors as well, after it cools a little I notice them more. It’s almost hard to distinguish if this is juice or tea, and I have yet to decide if I like that aspect.
Accidentally left this in my car for a few days. Wow, it is fragrant in there now! :) It still tastes wonderful and is doing the job of waking me up quite nicely (thank goodness). Will be out soon, sadly, but the upside to that is more room in the tea cupboard and I can try new tea. ;)
Thank you to Meghann M for sending this one my way! Plum Berry is easily one of the fruitier teas I’ve had. The wild berry flavor certainly dominates. It is luscious, somewhat tart, and very strong. I can still taste it on my tongue and it’s been a good twenty minutes! The plum is there, but I have to search for it. It almost seems an afterthought, a nearly forgotten second string. This tea is quite flavorful and tasty, yet the plum should not have received top billing.
I got to try this one on always lovely Tea Tuesday. Yes, lucky me, I live here in Wichita. :) I had it naked and iced. I enjoyed the “spiciness”. The cinnamon, cardamom, and vanilla meet you first. Is there a lot going on in this tea? Yes. Is it an enjoyable lot going on? Most definitely.
For me, the apple was a little lost in there. It was detectable, but not easily. And as mentioned, it is sweet (but not overwhelmingly so) as is, yet I wonder if adding sugar would help bring out the apple?
I love and appreciate the review! I’m not going to cave until I get the tea for my best friend’s wedding favors (which this was made for). She’s going to give it out w/ a honey stick so maybe desolve a honey stick in it and then chill… or possibly just a tiny pinch of sugar in the raw. Those are the only 2 sweeteners I’d suggest using.
Trying the mate again today. This time I tried it prepared in a coffee pot as mentioned on the package (as opposed to with my mug infuser). Wow, much stronger this way. I must not have had the temperature hot enough or used enough of the leaves last time. I added a little milk and sugar as well. MMM…This is so much more palatable! It has a smoother more soothing feel this way (as I suppose should be expected!). It reminds me of green tea but not quite as pungent and more roasty. This may just become my coffee alternative!
Had a cup of this last night while sitting on the balcony watching Entourage with the hubby. My husband, who doesn’t like tea, said that this smelled delicious, like a banana muffin. He even wanted to try it, and he drank half the glass! He said that it was good, but that it was a bit of a “buzzkill” as it was still “just tea” and not a muffin. :P I’m still considering this progress. ;)
I am certainly getting that “earthy” quality others have mentioned. This is my first time trying mate… had to even ask how it was pronounced. I am feeling somewhat more energized, which is definitely a good thing as I am currently at work and have another 2 and a half hours to go till this shift is through! Some days midnight cannot come soon enough. :)
I cannot say I’m a fan of this tea. I don’t care for the “flowery” taste, and the flavors just don’t seem to mesh well. The hibiscus is overpowering. The blueberry and peppermint are nearly non-existent. If anyone out there is a fan of this, let me know, I still have over half a container left and cannot bring myself to just get rid of it. :(
