2291 Tasting Notes
I have so many random packets of different plain matches from DAVIDsTEA. I’ve been having them as a mid-morning latte, to tide me over for lunch. I’m not much of a breakfaster, so a coffee and a tea latte do me fine.
This one is a little more grassy, but as a latte it’s great. Tbh I’d never do matcha as shots or as a sipping tea – they’re just too grassy or marine-y for my tastebuds.
Revisited this mix this afternoon! Such a sweet dessert combination! I do really like this tea blend still, even though I probably wouldn’t give it a 90.
I’m definitely feeling more like I prefer my simpler teas with milk, or fruit/herbal teas with honey or iced. Black tea with a lot of sweet additives is good, but it’s not the best anymore.

Interesting, but not at all reminiscent of the barley based coffee substitutes I can’t have anymore (because gluten).
This is heavy on the cinnamon. And really needed sugar. And also I added milk.
Also chicory and dandelion are both triggers for IBS so we’ll see how I feel tomorrow I guess? The steep was really short so I saved the bag and will try tomorrow too. There’s also a recipe for cold brew on the box that I’ll try if the tea agrees with me…
I’m happy I finally got to the post office… though not for this tea. I’m happy I now have my mini tumbler! It’s so cute! I have the big one for teas and water, and the mini for coffee. Well, for now it’s for coffee. I’ll probably also use it for matcha at some point.
This tea tho. I needed a new eg cream and thought I’d get this one. And uhh, this is not it. I generally love me an earl grey, and I also love me a cream tea, but this one smells like sugared baby topped with cream cheese frosting.
What. WHY.
Tasting it isn’t great either. It’s incredibly sweet, and definitely has that cream cheese thing going on. Vanilla cream cheese frosting tea, maybe? With a tiny hint of floral citrus at the finish? Idk. Definitely will not repurchase this. I can get much better earl grey creams from smaller local shops.
Still love it. I’ve stored it well, and it’s aged remarkably well.
Too bad the new teapot I got from Indigo (to go along with a book, for free shipping) isn’t as good as the tea. It DRIPS. And the basket doesn’t have a handle so it’s a pain to remove once it’s steeped.
Anyways back to the tea. I have a major stockup of this tea in my stash still, and I’m very pleased. It’s a cool day, so a hot flavoured tea is great. I love how Stacy got the licorice flavours without licorice root. Still one of my top flavoured teas, along with a good Earl Grey, and a good Chai.

Anyways. My mom sent me this. It’s very very reminiscent of bagged Orange Pekoe, but it’s better, and I love it. So comforting to drink something similar to whatever tea bags we had in the house when I was a kid.
With milk as always.
Apparently I should have steeped this at 185F/85C for 1-2 min and done multiple infusions. lol. At least I don’t use straight up boiling water like my parents do?

Yeah, it’s ok. Maybe it’s the age of the tea (I didn’t actually look at the packet!) or my changed tastebuds.
The oily sheen from the chocolate bits is always disconcerting, and I really dislike the stevia. I don’t hate it, but I get an aftertaste that isn’t the best.
Wouldn’t buy again, but it’s fun to try!

Had my last class of the semester today, and now I have to finish my paper!
Gotta reread all the articles from class, and mark sections that will be useful, then do more research, and then somehow manage to fit it all into 10-12 pages. Ha!

At least puer teas age well, even the white ones! This is delicious although I oversteeped it at 1 min. I did a quick rinse, then 1 min at 165F. I’ll do 1-2 more steeps as I finish up my work and then the presentation I’m doing for class tonight. Heh. Yeah, I haven’t written it yet.
Soft, sweet, fruity, and then tannin.
Sadly about half my tin ended up as a sacrifice to the floor gods. Oh well, I’ll savour what I have left then maybe break into one of the other 5 (est) white puer I have.

When I first opened the (well sealed) package, I’m not gonna lie it smelled bad. Not rancid, but definitely not how I remember.
So I asked some tea friends… should I try it? The answer was yes.
It didn’t smell as bad this morning (maybe airing it out helped?) and I did a quick rinse before my usual 3 minute steep.
It’s actually OK! The flavour has definitely deteriorated, as there’s a weird aftertaste (a bit astringent, a bit metallic), but the tea flavour is still good. I mostly taste vanilla now, so I think it’s the caramel flavour that is behaving weirdly. (I say weirdly but friends, this tea is OLD for a flavoured tea.)
I still love the base Assam that Stacy used. The big leaves, the sweet malty flavour. I’ve tried others in the same tea family but they’re just not as good. A lot of them have more “dirt tea” flavour, which this one never had.

Taiwanese Assam and Wild Mountain are still some of my favourite black teas too.
It worked out enough that I will drink all I have for nostalgia reasons. It’s actually way more drinkable than the H&S Paris I had yesterday…
I just wish I had a (local, reliable) source for Taiwanese Assam THIS GOOD.
I’m with you. I caved and ordered from Whispering Pines when they had it in stock a couple years ago, and it made so nostalgic and happy.. but it’s WP, and they are both expensive and carry a limited supply of their teas with unpredictable restocking. If they get it and/or Tawainese Wild Mountain back this year I’m breaking my self-imposed tea buy ban.
It’s my one and only exception.. and also a possible Jayida Che reorder because they gave me a 20% off code. That’s totally it though. D:
i’ve been hoping tawain tea crafts would bring back the few varieties they have that are delicious. WP is too expensive and never has enough stock for me to make a cart worthwhile.
Taiwan Tea Crafts would definitely be more ideal. I’ll try to keep them on my radar too. WP is for years when my tea budget is not.. like this year.
