drank Good Humor by August Uncommon Tea
73 tasting notes

This tea is uplifting – good humor indeed! I busted this out this afternoon for a nice break before I have to dive back into med school apps, and it did the trick.

I’m getting a mellow citrus, which I like – almost lemon meringue pie rather than straight up lemon flavor. I’m also getting a faint apple taste and an underlying earthy sweetness that I’m contributing to the fig. I’m still getting some grassiness from the green tea peeking through, which I enjoy since that sets this apart from all of the sweet, pastry-flavored tisanes I have lying around.

Flavors: Apple, Fig, Lemon

It just hit me this morning that I’ve had this tea for just over two years, so I’m trying to finish up what I have. Luckily, it still tastes the same. Sipped this at work this morning, and enjoyed it without any cream and just a bit of sugar. The sweetness from the maple is just as enjoyable and subtle as I remember it!

Flavors: Maple

drank Cream Earl Grey by The Teaguy

Enjoyed this earlier today (double strength) with cream – it’s even more delicious, and much more reminiscent of a dessert that way! I think I like this blend equally both with and without, and I’ll choose how to prepare it based on what I’m in the mood for.

This tea is so unique. I love how the flavor of the hops compliments the black tea base, rather than simply overpowering it. Yummy and complex – a winning combo!

drank Guava Cadabra by DAVIDsTEA
73 tasting notes

Whew! Summer has certainly made an appearance in Chicago this week. With today in the 80s, I was craving iced tea like nobody’s business. Luckily, I had some of this left over from a tea party I hosted a few weeks ago, and brewed it hot (double strength) before pouring over ice. So refreshing and just what I needed. This is one of my favorite iced teas from Davids, largely because the guava flavor is so uncommon to me.

Boiling 8 min or more 7 tsp 24 OZ / 709 ML

drank Cream Earl Grey by The Teaguy

Another awesome sample from Teaguy! This tea was such a pleasant surprise for me. I’ve had many a cream earl grey, but this one stands out to the sweet, toffee-like, butterscotchy undertone in the aroma. As soon as I got a whiff of that, I was extra excited to try this tea. The flavor didn’t disappoint – that same undertone is still present, making this blend warmer and sweeter than most cream earl greys I’m used to (which typically only exhibit vanilla flavor in addition to the bergamot). What’s also nice about this blend is that I can still taste the tea underneath the additional flavors; the base is solid! Also, the aroma of the steeped tea reminds me of freshly baked scones – yum.

Flavors: Bergamot, Toffee, Vanilla

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Thank you to the Teaguy for sending me a generous sample of this! I’m always on the hunt for a breakfast tea that stands out from the crowd, and the components of this one sounded unique due to the inclusion of Hao Ya A, a delicious Keemun that I’ve had the pleasure of drinking straight. My cup turned out smooth and virtually free of bitterness and that tannic aftertaste, but still brisk and malty enough to call itself a breakfast blend. Although it was wonderful without cream, I’ll try adding some next time!

drank Organic Citrus Blast by The Teaguy

I was intrigued by the description of this tea, pairing maté with citrus. It’s usually very hard for me to enjoy a green maté blend, because I simply don’t like the flavor or aroma of pure maté. Surprisingly, the maté flavor melds really well with the citrus when steeped. I like that, although the maté comes out really strong in the aroma of the steeped tea, the flavor combined with the citrus is less in-your-face….perfect for someone interested in the benefits of maté but not necessarily the pure maté flavor!

Flavors: Citrus, Fruity

2 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

drank Night In Rio by T by Daniel

This tea is so fun! Like a taste of summer in a cup. I picked this up from the Toronto Tea Festival this past January, where I got to meet Daniel in person (he’s incredibly nice and just as charismatic and enthusiastic as his website/social media outlets suggest). He helped me pick out several blends to take home, and the instant I sampled this one I knew I had to have it. The taste is heavy on the pineapple, just the way I like it. I can’t wait to try it iced.

This warm and comforting tea kept me company as I was stuck in horrendous traffic for most of the evening. I steeped this in my travel carry mug from Davids, and it was just the sweet and spicy pick-me-up I needed. I didn’t pick up much apple in the flavor, but that’s okay with me – strong cinnamon flavor is really what I was after, anyway.

Flavors: Cinnamon

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 8 min or more 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Profile

Bio

If you count the bagged stuff, I’ve been a tea drinker for a long time. I first discovered the joys of loose leaf on a trip to London in 2014, and it’s all been downhill from there. I’m still in the phase where I want to try everything, and I’m still developing my tea personality.

Types of tea / tisanes I gravitate toward: black, green oolong, Japanese green, flavored teas (sweet, floral, fruity, minty, complex, you name it), rooibos, roasted mate, and many herbal and fruit combos.

Teas I need to try, try again, or keep trying: white, pu erh, dark oolong, pure Chinese green, mate

I’ll update soon with my rating system!
