421 Tasting Notes
First tea of the day. Yes I know it’s after 6pm here. My day got away from me, what can I say? Picked this one up at a tea tasting the other night as I thought I remembered having it, but now I think I had a similar blend from Capital Teas as this tastes a little like their Toffee Puerh, but this one from WK is very smooth and rich, with nice hints of caramel/toffee. Really yummy and perfect as it has started to snow again.

First off, yep I changed the name back. For me it is way easier (plus I started the blog back up too).
On to the tea. We went to a tasting last night at The Whistling Kettle and as always you can buy the teas they offered at the tasting as well as stock up on other teas they carry. So I was looking over their extensive catalogue and found this. I knew I had to try it. At the time I didn’t know I’d fall so hard for it! I tried it this morning and wow. I am blown away by the flavor. Very earthy with that extra touch of spice and a hint of chocolate that make you sit up a little straighter and sip the tea a little longer.
I’m going to need to stock up on this one!

Preparation
One of my favorite go to afternoon teas. Plus it happens to be Sherlock Sunday. So I thought it was perfect to have when Mom stopped over. This one is very smokey and oh so Baker Street.

Stopped into a Teavana with friends the other night and they were offering this one up as a sample. To me it didn’t seem much different from some really nice Yunnan teas I’ve tried before. I found it to be rather malty with a touch of honey. Sure it was nice, but I didn’t find it to be as special as they were claiming it to be.
I certainly wasn’t going to shell out nearly $30 to take some home with me.
After sleeping most of my Saturday away (I’ve no idea why) and staying up until close to 4am today I was shocked to get up around 8:30am…of course the call from my mother might have helped that. She was asking what “red stuff” I put on the nieces eggs the last time she visited… “Paprika?” I recall as my response. Of course she thought that’s what it was, but my niece HAD to be sure and called to ask me. Good thing that kid is cute.
Once I was up and out of bed…I noticed our cats were swarming the bed. I’m the food lady in the house…so I snap, crackle, and popped my way downstairs to feed them. This also consisted of turning on the electric kettle. I needed tea…stat! I reached for this one as I thought it was a tea I had tried before. But after having it…I don’t think it was. I would have remembered this tea. It was bold, but with a light sweetness that made it very easy to drink in almost one big sip. I need to spend more time with this tea for sure!
I had this one iced last night as a parting treat from The Whistling Kettle. What a treat it was. It sort of reminded me of Lucky Charms marshmallows! In a good way – like a walk down memory lane to Saturday morning cartoons. Which were always watching with a big bowl of Lucky Charms. Very smooth and silky too. I need to try this one hot soon.
Preparation
I was lucky enough to get my hands on a sample of this brand new tea from Royal Tea of Kenya. I was only able to get to sit down with it today. The smell of the dry tea is malty and rich. I hoped that smell translated to smell while steeping and of course taste!
As it was steeping the malty flavor really came out to play. I love this seeing as I can’t do regular beer anymore due to the whole no gluten thing. The smell was also very strong and rich. Plus the color of the liquid is a beautiful reddish-orange color I haven’t seem in a tea before. Just stunning! The taste? Rich and smooth and full of flavor. I’ll write more about this tea when I can have a proper sit down with it and my notebook.
