Received this as a free sample with my lasts order. Thank you so much Garret for including it.
I’ve been drinking it and playing with the steep parameters all day. I can’t find the sweet spot. The first few infusions seems really bold and in your face, the later steeps seemed weak and uninteresting. Couldn’t find much in between. I don’t hate this, but just feel like it should be more interesting than I could make it. Was nice to spend the day with, but there are much better pu’erhs out there. I’m just going to file this under finicky and move on.

with these two keywords: Mandala & organic – Ooh, I’m interested.
Dexter, Did you ask Garret for his brewing recommendations for this particular pu-erh?
All I did was gong fu as usual and I thought it was great. Sorry can’t offer anything more specific.
HI! I’d try shorter first infusions, Dex. Sounds like you may be overbrewing it upfront.
People are going nuts over this one and we had one woman order 40 of these through us to keep here in our vault to ship a little with each of her orders! We were immediately in love with this one and I have a stash of it, myself. But… just because so many like it doesn’t mean it’s your cup of tea :) Too bad we can’t sit down together and let me brew some up for you. Wouldn’t that be fun? Joy to each of you on this thread. Thanks, Charles!
Grateful,

Thanks Garret – I’m not disagreeing with you about over steeping up front – but I couldn’t find the right balance. I actually drank it all day in two different sessions. I’m not the hard and fast rule type and I steep more by instinct than by the clock. Shug – so it could be user error, but in my world when it’s about that color it’s done. Something like 4g/170ml flash rinse twice then I probably started at like 10 seconds. I just found that when it got to that color it was too strong for me and if you didn’t let it come to that color then it was too mild. There just didn’t seem to be a happy medium for me.
Who knows – maybe the pu’erh gods weren’t smiling on me, maybe I wasn’t in the right mood. It could be anything, but for my tastes – this one didn’t make me happy. There are so many of your shou pu’erhs that I would rather drink.
Then again, I would LOVE for you to make tea and share a cup (or several). Really should be looking at a Minneapolis and area long weekend – it’s really not that far from here. :))

TeaBrat may also have some helpful suggestions.
