What’s with Lupicia steeping instructions. Every Lupicia tea that I have says “boiling” water. Boiling water on genmaicha? Why would I do that? Should I do that? Do they know more than I do?
The first time I made this, I used 80C for 3 minutes – that did not work. Bitter, didn’t like it. This time I did 95C (still couldn’t bring myself to use boiling) for 1 minute. This was MUCH better. It’s still not as good as the black soybean one that I had the other night, but it’s ok. This isn’t as toasty/roasty as I would like. Good but not my favorite.
Thank you so much ifjuly for sending some of this my way.

Stacy told me once that if you like roasty Genmaicha with less of a green quality to brew it in boiling water for one minute, so there must be some method to the madness if that suggestion is cropping up from more than one source.
Thanks Roswell that’s interesting, and this certainly was better with hotter water and a shorter steep. I just think it’s weird that ALL their tea says boiling with short steeps – flavored whites, flavored greens, everything I own.
Indigo – That they do, and I’ve liked some of them – others not so much, but they are fun to try. :))
I’ve noticed that about steep times from other places as well but it’s more because the packaging is generic and not a specific instruction for that tea.
I had a soy bean genmaicha from Lupicia, it was a gift. Nice tea but kinda odd
Lupicia does love their funky genmaichas!

of they don’t know more than you- ‘specially not about how YOU like tea! ignore em’.

I have also noticed their parameters being all the same and have chosen to ignore them. As James mentioned, I know how I like my tea and unless it’s a tisane, I usually don’t use boiling water. And so far so good, I pretty much liked every Lupicia teas I have tried.
