26 Tasting Notes
This is the first Pouchong that I’ve ever tasted and prepared, so I was a bit nervous about the steeping since I knew that this was a lighter Oolong. But no fear, I figured it out and I really enjoy this tea!
First off, the leaves alone have a sweet, fresh and slighty milky scent; very light and bright. I also have to note that the color of the leaves is beautiful, ranging from deep jade to a forest green. The way that the leaves are rolled and dried give it a pretty pinched texture that unfurls to reveal broad, dark green leaves.
My first steeping brought out a very pale yellow infusion. I feel that this tea has a “springtime” essence to it, it’s delicate in flavor but also sweet and creamy smooth. It has a slight roasted note in the the background that just kind of slips in near the finish. Fresh and sweet taste.
On my second steeping the leaves were able to unfurl fully. I steeped it at 195F again at 4:10 minutes. The second time around gave it a much stronger finish that really brought out a sweet, milky roasted flavor; however the tea still kept its light and delicate qualities.
I think that two steeps is probably the limit for this Pouchong because I could tell that it was right on the cusp of turning bitter.
Last Words: This is a delicate “springtime” tea with sweet and milky qualities. Very light, very smooth.
Preparation
This was a while ago I know. But I finished my sample and now I’m without Puchong. Sad~
I’m going to order this in 2 or 4oz as soon as I get the chance. I loved this tea so much.
I already thanked her on her blog, but thanks again for the $5 coupon Snooty Tea Person! Lovely!
It hurts, kill it before it reproduces and hurts your friends and family. Only good for those emergencies where you can’t find anything else, but even then it’s better not drink it.
Steaming pile of tea-like pee.
Preparation
You appear to be new to steepster so welcome. There’s a newbie thread in the discussion tab. Also, following people who follow you or selecting people to follow allows you to see each others tea reviews (kind of the point of this whole process). The people here are very nice! I’m the oldest probably…the grandma of the place. Moved from Silicon Valley to Colorado a few years ago. Love tea!
I was introduced to tea drinking through good ’old jasmine tea, so I really enjoy it and have had quite a few versions of it, bagged and loose.
I tried this version of it at a small cafe near my area. When I ordered it I was a bit dismayed to receive a blistering hot cup of bagged tea, expecting the usual disappointment in a sachet.
Oh ohoho, was I WRONG. This bagged jasmine was splendid! And it still is as I drink it right now. I’ve had this tea about three times now and have made a whole pot of it. I managed to get a whole pot out of one sachet/bag so that was very nice.
As far as flavor goes, the jasmine is on the strong side. First the green tea hits the tip of your tongue for a second, then the fresh sweetness of the jasmine fills your mouth, with a creamy smoothness following it to the back of the throat. I haven’t experienced any bitterness from this tea. I really do recommend steeping at 195 degrees F for 3:30 minutes.
This is the best bagged jasmine that I’ve tasted yet. I love the fresh creaminess. It’s also great for drinking cold/iced! Favorite bagged jasmine tea.
Last Words: If you are going to buy/drink a bagged jasmine tea, go for Mighty Leaf’s and you won’t be disappointed.
Preparation
I am new to traditional Matcha preparation and taste. I would say that this tea is good for Matcha beginners that are new to the Matcha scene. This brand is on the expensive side for its quality though, it isn’t quite as rich and bold as I’d hoped that it would be.
It has a weak boldness that hits you in the back of your throat followed by a short-lived sweetness. It does have a weak grassy aftertaste that only lasts for a few minutes. Overall, I do enjoy this tea when I drink it, despite the weaker taste.
Last Words: Good for beginners looking to experiment, but rather weak and thin.
