drank Ancient Forest by Art of Tea

This tea had a great deal to live up to, having been hand picked from tea tree’s a 1,000 years old found only in an ancient mountain preserve a mile above sea level. I don’t know if any tea could live up to such a backstory but it is a very fine black tea. It actually tastes quite like an oolong, although not quite as malty. Honey is the predominant note for me, with a woodsy body and a nice smooth finish. My only complaint is that it didn’t hold up very well after 4 steeps but that’s to be expected with the smaller leaves used.

Whispering Pines Tea Company

This was the second Yunnan black I ever had :)

I’m soooo lucky to be able to import this tea :)

Passion fruit is a difficult flavor to deliver, so often it’s done as a greener version of pineapple or just a sweet citrus sort of this. This tea captures it really well, with th slight melon’ish flavor and not so sweet finish. The Rooibos itself is quite good, bright without being overly sweet either. I was a bit worried this tea would just be another ‘tropical’ mix but I find myself liking it more and more with each sip! Thanks to roswell strange for sending a sample to my wife!

Another wonderful tea from Whispering Pines! This tea isn’t quite as potent as some of their other black teas, smoother perhaps, but no less flavorful. Caramel is the primary note for me, with a fruity aftertaste that I can’t quite pin down. Very very tasty!

What I love best about this tea is just how much flavor is packed in each sip without the malt aftertaste I’ve come to associate with the better black teas. The primary note for me is honey, with a bit of caramel towards the end. And it keeps going well after the cup is finished, subtler notes come out as the honey clears. Truly an excellent tea!

drank White Rhino by Butiki Teas

A white tea that brews and tastes like a black tea? Yep, it would seem so! Quite tasty, full body, definite notes of honey, sweet potato, caramel, and a malty finish. It sort of has it’s foot in between a white and a black tea which can be a little distracting, but a good cup none the less. I’m impressed by the depth of the flavor, it persists well after the sip. Mouthfeel is nice and smooth, more so than the average black tea. Overall quite nice!

It’s hard to believe that this big bold tea is caffeine free! With a bit of milk it reminds of vanilla bean ice cream from hagan daas, so tasty! This one is for sure going to be a regular evening treat for me!

drank Birthday Cake by Butiki Teas

Aside from the legendary Laoshan Black this is probably the best tea I’ve had via a tea swap yet! Thanks MissB! I’ve never had marshmallow leaf before so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was a great cuppa tea! For me it wasn’t so much birthday cake as cake batter, especially given how smooth it was and the slight vegetable oil aftertaste I was left with. It’s interesting just how different this birthday cake tea is from adagios, seeing how thy go after different notes. I think I prefer this one! Certainly a dessert tea, a nice counterpoint to the serious Darjeeling I started the day off with. While not something I would drink every day, it is a nice change of pace tea or a treat when you need one!

Oh, fantastic! So glad you enjoyed this one. It’s one of my ‘treat’ favorites too, and is now back on Butiki’s website for all to order.

This tea was the perfect way to start off a Monday morning! It’s a full bodied tea with a lot going on, but never harsh or overbearing. The fruity notes never grow too sweet or sickly, and it’s impressive how it never switches over to astringent even towards the end of the cup. Smooth to the finish, excellent tea!

update. I have now gone through four steepings throughout the day and it is still going strong so I’m inclined to raise my score!

I’ve never been a fan of green teas, however I agree with many people here that the reason I didn’t like green tea was because I’ve never had good green tea! This green tea is excellent, provided by Butiki via my wife who won their contest recently. As always the story behind the tea is very important to me, and the idea of a hand picked tea from wild tea trees thrills me. A little (geeky) research shows this tea came from this gorgeous part of China; https://www.tripmondo.com/china/anhui-sheng/daguyun/picture-gallery-of-daguyun/ . And the taste of course, excellent. Very sweet, a honey sweet, with a buttery smooth aftertaste. I can’t get over how smooth it is, I went through my cup so fast, ready for a second steep!
