1758 Tasting Notes
This is a very good sheng. It is smooth after the first two infusions. It is not as good as the 2014 Mandala Wild Monk but has more of an aged taste. The bitterneess disappears after the third infusion. I steeped this seven times for 15 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 15 sec, 30 sec, 30sec and 30 sec. It does not have any real young sheng bitterness left except in the first infusion.
Preparation
This tea is strong, very strong. I steeped it as in the instructions, 3 tsp for a 18 oz pot in boiling water. It is way too strong. Next time I think two tsp and only 3 min steep instead of 5. This is a classic example of a tea company recommending the oversteeping of their tea.
The tea is very bitter as well. It is a compressed black tea but not at all like a puerh, not smooth at all. I can’t give it a very high mark. I will try it again in about a week and steep it less, maybe it will be better.
Preparation
This is a nice ripe puerh, very tasty. I decided to try some different things with this tonight, boredom is a strong motivator. I steeped it in a 10 oz mug for 25 sec with boiling water. In the first steep I added a small amount of maple sugar instead of regular suger. It was good but did not have a strong flavor. I don’t think I added enough. I have a pound of it, I will experiment more another time. The second steeping was with plain sugar . For the third I added Goji berries to the cup and brewed it for 25 sec. This steep was slightly bittersweet from the Goji berries. It was good but not an overall success. In all I think the steeping with plain raw sugar was the best. Sarsonator gave me the idea for the maple sugar.
Preparation
This tea is one of the best sheng puerhs I have ever tasted. I steeped this ten times in a 3 oz shui ping teapot. First 10 sec, then 5, 10, 10, 15, 15, 20, 30, 30, 30. I used boiling water. By the fourth steeping all bitterness was gone from this tea and it was smooth. It continued to hold its flavor throughout nearly all ten steepings, not falling off until steeping 9 or so. By falling off I do not mean it had lost all its flavor, just a little. I have two of these and am considering buying another or even a tong.
Preparation
Actually, that makes two of us. I loved your review of the Laoshan Black by Verdant Tea, but when I went to order it they were out. I have to wait for the next harvest.
It was without a doubt the best “young sheng” I have ever drank. I ordered a tong and was lucky enough to get their sale price. The sale was over but they neglected to change the price online. I thought the sale price had been lower. I would have gotten 15% off anyway because I had a coupon for the non sale items in my order.
Brewed a large 18 oz pot of this for 25 sec with boiling water, one rinse. It a nice tasty tea with no off flavors or bitterness. It has no astringency either. An excellent choice for someone new to Puerh.
Preparation
This tea tastes relatively good. It is not the very best oolong. That being said the gaba in it can have a very relaxing effect. I steeped this tea twice in 190 degree water, first for 3 1/2 min the for 4 min. I used 3 tsp of leaves in a 16 oz pot.
It is slightly bitter and slightly floral in taste but not a strong bitterness or a true strong floral that is often found in rolled oolong tea. I am drinking it with a mixture of honey and sugar, no milk. The mild effect of the GABA is very nice after a particularly stressful week.
Flavors: Bitter, Floral
Preparation
I didn’t like this tea when I started my cup. By the time I finished I was enjoying it. It is not especially complex but then again they have only been making teas in South Carolina for a few years. It has a malty and slightly bitter taste with a slightly sweet finish. I brewed it for 3 minutes at boiling with 3 tsp tea in an 18 oz pot. It is not as good as Chinese tea but I think it worth a try.
Preparation
Steeped properly this tea is excellent. I steeped it three times in a 350ml Yixing teapot, first 20 sec, then accidentally oversteeped the second steeping, then 20 sec. My review is based upon the two steepings where my strainer didn’t clog and slow my pouring. It was naturally just a little sweet on the first steeping. It was fairly light bodied with pleasant notes of I’m not sure what. Couldn’t quite put a finger on the taste but it was good. I was slightly bitter in the second and third steeping. Overall I give this tea a high mark.
Preparation
I brewed 8g of this tea 8 times in a 175ml teapot. I started with 20 sec steeps and went as far as 2 min by steeping eight. I’d swear I detected notes of vanilla, brown sugar, and cacao in the times I steeped it. It is a nice and complex tea. This was from a sample Garret sent me from my last order. I will probably order it.
Brewed it in this.
