My package was marked Wild Red Black tea, but matches the photo, so I’m hoping this is the right tea for my review.

The leaves were long and curled, looked to be good quality. First brew smelled like baked bread, taking a sip, the taste was more of the bread notes along with classic tart black tea undertones and a hint of cacao. Very pleasant to drink, more calming than the normal breakfast black tea sharpness. Second brew has earthier tones, almost more like a pu erh tea. Less bread and more savory black tea notes.

Pretty good overall. Not my personal favorite, but very drinkable and a solid unflavored black tea.

This is a hojicha green tea with almond an hazelnut flavors. Wow, the almond flavor is strong. Open the bag and it is a cloud of sweet marzipan. Brewed, the almond continues to be dominant, but it is coupled with the nutty, slightly floral hojicha. The green tea pairs well with the smooth almond. The green tea is definitely savory beneath all that marizpan, a bit brothy, and like stuffing I suppose. I was hoping for more herbal notes, or more apple, sage, or rosemary, to make this feel more thanksgiving-oriented, but the flavors are just not there. As the tea cools, you get more equal parts of marizpan and brothy green tea, which maybe aren’t the perfect pair. I think this should have gone more spicy and herbal, or gone for the sweet almond-cake taste all-around. Not bad, but not my favorite.

I have a bag labeled “mulled plum cider” from Harney and Sons. Not sure if this is the same tea or not, so take my review with a grain of salt.

I love spicy teas so this seemed like a good tea to try. In the dry leaves there were big cardamom pods and cloves, and lots of promise for a spicy brew. When I brewed the tea, there was an unexpected flavor in among all the rooibos and spice. I can only assume its the plum, though it tastes oddly savory, almost more like a spicy sweet thanksgiving stuffing. Not bad, but not the spicy herbal chai I expected. Worth a try, but be aware it might be a little different than you think.

This was okay, but I’m not the right audience for rose teas or white teas. I found I liked this better as it cooled down, there were sweeter notes in the tea leaves that came forward and make the florals feel more like dessert toppings rather than perfume or soap. A small thing, but I liked that the samples I received were loose leaf tea in little single-serve packets. Cute and travel friendly.

I enjoy flavors like licorice root and anise so I was excited to try this blend. Opening the bag, I was impressed at the whole aniseed stars in the loose leaf. The dry leaf smelled exactly like a black licorice jellybean, intensely sweet and herbal. Unfortunately, brewed, the hibiscus in this blend takes over and ruins it for me. The red-berry, mulled-wine, flavors of the hibiscus are not what I’m looking for with an herbal licorice blend. I would have preferred this blend with a gentler base, like rooibos or paired with something like mint or lemongrass. I guess the hibiscus is more fitting with a “aniseed balls” holiday-like theme. Not bad, but not my favorite.
