The 2018 Milan Maocha is a bit of a misnomer, how can a tea be both maocha [loose tea] and a brick? In this case, the term maocha refers to the Dancong oolong tea being left in its raw form before pressing. We commissioned this production to be left with stems and large leaves for this pressing. I’ve been sitting on this sample for a while; but I finally decided to brew it up the same day that I tried out the Rose Aroma Dancong. I was a little worried that I was just in a bad head space and that would cause this tea to taste weird/off to me too, but this tasted fucking amazing – better than I could have expected, actually! Here’s my instablurb with the tasting notes I picked up:
Delicious from start to finish – notes of lychee, orchid, floral apricot/quince, almond skins, and dryed out wood; all alongside a heavy roast and hearty astringency!!
