From Whispering Pines Tea Company

This may just be my favorite blend of all time…maybe. :)

One day, the blending genius here at Whispering Pines was sipping on our Fujian black tea — full of rich, semi-sweet dark chocolate decadence. He was thinking of all the wonderful things in the world with dark chocolate in them…good drinking chocolate, dark chocolate covered expresso beans, mint chocolate chip ice cream…LIGHTBULB!

So, he simply got up and threw together a perfect mix of organic peppermint and Fujian Black Tea, sat back and indulged in perfection.

Chocolate free, sugar free, guilt free — Mint Chocolate Chip Black Tea. Desert tea will never be the same!

Water temp ::: 212ºF / 100ºC

I was excited to try this after the success I had with the other Whispering Pines blends Cavocorax shared but I am finding this a bit bland. There is some mint and some chocolate but I was expecting more. Nonetheless, thank you Cavo for the chance to try it.

ETA: The flavors come out a bit more as this cools which is making for a nice cup.

TeaLady441

That is odd! Maybe I oversteeped mine?

cavocorax sent this one my way and i was glad. I sort of went off trying mint chocolate chip black teas because i really love stacy’s herbal version. Sadly, this one wasn’t a win for me. it’s a nice enough mint chocolate chip, but it’s not strong or enticing enough for me to pick it up in favour of the herbal version. still though, decent cup of mint chocolate chip tea :)

Last night, after my four hour hike in the wilderness, I indulged into an Offley 10 years Port wine and some good quality dark chocolate, the one that snaps when you brake it.

But since a girl can’t stuff herself with that kind of goodies everyday day, I chose WP Mint Chocolate Chip to satisfy my chocolate craving today.

I’ve said it before, I don’t have a big sweet tooth, but dark chocolate is my weakness.

I could not pass the opportunity to buy this cause I’m also a mint lover. The combination of both mint and chocolate is to die for.

Oh, this smells wonderful, and tastes even better. Just the right amount of peppermint freshness and natural sweetness from the excellent Fujian black base.

I love that there are only two ingredients in this: peppermint, black tea. No fake candies of any kind, my idea of the perfect flavoured tea :-)

Oh, and this is my 200th Steepster note!

Kat_Maria

Congrats on your 200th note! What are your favorite chocolate brands? Have you ever tried Raaka chocolate? They have one that is vanilla rooibos flavored :)

TheTeaFairy

Thanks Kat_Maria!
To answer your question, no brand I’m afraid. There’s a nice chocolate bakery near by, they make the perfect super glossy 80% dark chocolate, that’s where I buy it all the time. Nothing compares to it IMHO. But I do have occasionally some Lindt sea salt dark chocolate, I love it too.

I don’t think we have Raaka chocolate around here. I don’t like Red Rooibos, but it’s interesting that they would make a tea chocolate :-)

ohfancythat

I suggest the Lindt Madagascar bar….can’t get enough ;)

I brewed this tea on Friday for an afternoon meeting that I knew would drag on and on…I steeped two cups for the meeting and steeped it a third time once I got back to my office.

I am not normally a fan of mint-flavored things, but my husband loves this one, so I took a sample to work to give it a shot. I’m glad I did! This tea is LOVELY.

1st steep – Heavy on the mint, light on the chocolate/expresso flavor. Not my favorite steep, just because the flavors were SO strong…but still highly enjoyable
2nd steep – Flavor party in my mouth! The mint calmed down and the chocolate/expresso flavor picked up to blend together for a lovely cup of mint-chocolate goodness. This was my favorite steep.
3rd steep- Just a slightly more subtle version of the 2nd steep. All the flavors were still joining the party, but the had relaxed somewhat.

I didn’t try for a fourth, just because I had reached my mint limit for the day, but I think I probably could have had a decent cup of tea if I had tried!

I was skeptical about this tea, mint tea’s are often very loud and obnoxious about their minty’ness, but against all odds I love it! A mint chocolate chip tea without any chocolate? Yes, emphatically yes. The balance between the flavors in this is is remarkable, the mint never shouts, the chocolate is always there but never overly sweet, and the black tea itself comes through which is a nice treat in a dessert tea.

If you find it a tad too minty I found the second steep to a little subtler with a tad more chocolate coming through, not sure if I’d go to a third one but I’m thinking about it :)
