Extra Bergamot English Earl Grey (TE11S)

Very strong bergamot flavor, to the point where the tea flavors were a bit hard to find. Overpowering if drank on its own, but with a tiny bit of sugar (a teaspoon or less) and a tiny splash of milk, it’s a lot easier to taste the full flavors of the tea, at which point it becomes delicious.

I’d accidentally let the water cool off a bit after boiling it, so there’s a chance that the flavors from the tea were not fully extracted (whereas the bergamot flavor, simply being an oil in this blend, was probably extracted to the same degree as it would’ve been).

The tea leaves my tongue tingling a bit for a while with a not exactly pleasant, somewhat soapy, aftertaste.

Definitely a bit much in the bergamot department, though, and I’ll probably stick with a more mellow Earl Grey in the future.

I grabbed this sample from a TTB, and I have to say it’s a pretty great EG! Nice strong bergamot flavor, as the name suggests, on top of a smooth black tea. I’m drinking this cold with milk and sugar, and it’s everything I could want from an EG. The resteep is strong and flavorful too.

Good, not great earl grey. I think I like the twinigs a bit more, but nothing too much wrong with it. Maybe a bit too little actual tea flavor?

This is #3 out of the 5 earl grey samples I got from Upton teas. I’m trying it as my first cup of tea on a Saturday morning. It’s alright, but still not exactly what I’m looking for. The sip itself is good, but there’s a bit of an aftertaste that’s heavy and bitter. I made a pot, and I’ll drink all of it, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t the one for me. I still like the Blue Flower EG better.

Bought this sample with my last Upton order because the boyfriend was intrigued. And he also has short term memory loss because he cannot recall said interest. Good thing it was a.) cheap, and b.) I like Earl Grey, although I do prefer the Earl Grey Cream iterations.

Steeped per package directions, which happens to be my preferred method of steeping a black tea anyway. It smelled super bergamot-ty, which made me nervous initially because know I’ve had an Earl Grey from Teavana that seemed to give me headaches.

This tea, despite it’s very strong bergamot taste and scent, didn’t affect me that way though! Yay! Maybe it was just something in the Teavana blend, or maybe I’ve just upped my tolerance of it since the many years between that Earl Grey and this one. It is definitely too sharp of a flavor to have without additives, however. And there is not really much in the way of a ‘tea’ flavor to be had.

So: with milk and sugar, this turns into quite a good Earl Grey. I don’t miss out on the lack of vanilla as much, either. According to Upton’s site it is one of their more popular blends and I see why. I will definitely drink up the rest of the sample (and make the boyfriend drink some of it too, haha) but I think Earl Grey Creams are still my preferred varietal.

Potable, strong bergamot flavor. Brewed English style. A little acrid/artificial if oversteeped. Upton seems to have ok flavored teas, but their oolongs and puerh are some of the worst I’ve encountered.

I’ve had about a zillion earl greys, and this is one of the better ones I’ve had…kind of surprised at some of the other reviews. I do like bergamot to be pretty strong in the mix though, and I wasn’t looking for complexity when I ordered this. Anyhow, great taste and smell, very relaxing (even with caffeine in it no doubt), and no harshness detected.

when you open the bag up it smells of frootloops… after the first whiff though it begins to have a very floral smell, like sweet flowers

the taste is pretty uniform with the smell and it has the frootloopish taste and kind of gets more floral the more you drink(although more subtle than the smell)

overall it was decent, not really my thing though. i seem to prefer more bland/darker flavors. but if you love frootloops go for it ! :D

Update: I bumped up the score because it actually turns out quite good if you mix a little (1:4 to 1:3 depending on preference) into a strong assam.

I’ve had good artificial flavors, and this is not one of them. Very overpowering and one-note, like cheap perfume. Stands out even when mixed with other leaves. It can be saved with milk, but only to the point of being “alright”.
