Backlog:

A very nice aroma to the brewed cup. Sweet, juicy peaches! It reminded me of the scent of the warm peach sauce that my gramma would make for waffles! YUM!

The spices were not as obvious in the aroma but they’re definitely there in the flavor. But I like that it’s not an overpowering presence in the cup.

Let this tea cool slightly after you’ve brewed it … it takes a few minutes (give it three to five minutes before you start sipping) to get the flavors to pop. A nice, well-defined note of peach, a hint of melon, and a nice set of spices to this cup. Very enjoyable tisane.

Homemade advent day 15

I made this as a coldbrew, despite the cold conditions here in BC. No snow yet, but almost two weeks straight of daily rain and gloom. A few days recently have had brief sunny periods and I feel inspired to make a fruity coldbrew for the occassion. I chose this sample I took out of a TTB because the ginger is wintery and warming but the peach is fruity and suits a coldbrew. I didn’t love the cup as much as I normally enjoy ginger teas.

The ingredients sound great, because ginger, papaya pieces, apple, orange blossom, and peach pieces sound like an amazing combo. The4 peppercorns give this an extra kick of spicy! However, there is also a small amount of very potent rosehips that make this blend very acidic. I wasn’t expecting this to be so sour and because the ginger is naturally sweet I hoped it would balance out. The second steep had more ginger and less fruit but was still sour. A real disappointment.

Samurai Travelling Tea Box – Tea #28

I’m finishing up a mug of this right now and I want to like this blend so much because it smells nice, and I’ve been so into ginger/peach flavours lately that I’d hate for that success streak to end…

But as much as I want to be all over this blend, I just can’t be. The peach flavour is actually very nice: it’s not too sweet or too tart/tangy and it’s well balanced with the ginger as well – neither one over powers the other. However, the ginger. Oh, the ginger! It’s just off tasting; the best way I can think to describe it is that the way it finishes in the mouth is just musty like a dusty attic? That’s such a non ideal flavour to get from a cup of tea; and it makes the whole blend seem just a little stale and flat.

It’s drinkable, but you should always strive for a little bit more than just “drinkable”.

Another tea box tea. When it’s warm, there’s a strong unpleasant flavor that’s difficult to pinpoint. I can taste the peach also, but that secondary flavor is enough for me to not enjoy this cup very much. There’s supposed to be ginger in here too, but I don’t notice that too much. Once it’s totally cooled, the artificial flavor dissipates and I can taste the peach better and even a little of the ginger. This one turned out to not be so bad after all. Not great, but not bad. Just drink it cool.

I’m sure you figured it out, but it has been a while, that big ol ziplock bag of teas within the teabox was your teas from our swap. So you just take that out and the rest are the teabox. You will probably want to find a smaller box. :D

This was a free sample from Tiesta Tea with my order a while back!  Thanks so much, Tiesta!  It’s an unusal mix of ingredients:  apple pieces, hibiscus, rose hips, ginger, peppercorns, honeydew melon, rose blossoms, orange blossoms.   The name says spice but I think the only “spicy” ingredient is ginger.  I’m not sure why they include peach in the name when melon is the fruit in the ingredients.  However, neither fruit is noticeable in the flavor.  Sadly, this is a TART cup though the brew isn’t that telling hibiscus scarlet — it actually is the color of a white peach.  I must have steeped too long… the tartness was like drinking lemon juice that tastes like children’s vitamins.  I have enough to keep trying… so next time I will try with a cooler temperature and less steep time.

This tea smells just like a candle. In a good way. Tastes sweet and spicy. I’m honestly getting more of the melon taste than the peach but it’s tasty regardless. Maybe I should mix the bag more. This would be good on a sore throat.

Switching to tisanes so I’ll sleep well tonight.
This one has a definite peach flavour, though I wonder if I would have been able to identify it if I hadn’t known what I was trying to taste. :) I found the hibiscus pretty strong in this cup – not enough to make it unpleasant but definitely tart. Not recommended for people who hate hibiscus! The ginger and peppercorns give it a fairly subtle warming character. It’s nice, I like it. I’m definitely finding it relaxing, or maybe I’m just tired. :)
I did notice that since I was only making one cup, and the dried fruits/blossoms/etc are pretty chunky, it would be pretty easy to get, say, an extra hibiscus blossom or two. I wonder if it’s a bit hard to get the right ratio of ingredients this way. I might try it in a teapot next time.

Sipdown! This has hibiscus and rosehip in it, so I was a little wary, but the description sounded so good I had to try it.

It brews up the dark reddish-pink I’ve come to dread, but it actually smells more like ginger than anything else. Sadly, the taste is hibiscus. After one sip of it hot I iced the cup and it’s much better this way. There’s a strong ginger flavor (but not too much), although I’m getting mostly hibiscus other than that. There’s some peach but not nearly enough to call it as such, in my opinion. It’s not bad but I’m really not a hibiscus fan so this won’t be a restock.
