From thepuriTea

Delicious hot or iced, our Mango Black is a classic blend one-upped with a base of premium black tea from Zhejiang, China. Its flavors of deep, full-bodied black tea and intensely tropical sweet-sour fruits make this garnet-hued brew a popular “everyday treat” for anyone who loves bold black teas or exotic fruit flavors. Add a bit of sugar if you’d like, or drink it alongside equally rich-tart foods, like grilled meats with citrus marinade or dark chocolate sweets topped with fresh berries or raspberry preserves.

This tea was one of 5 samples I received from thepuriTea. It arrived well packaged in pretty pillow boxes (see pictures for a side angle of the pillow box if you are unsure what I mean) with packing peanuts and business cards.

This, THIS is mango black tea. I have been hunting for a good mango black for MilitiaJim, as he loves mangos, and this is it. We both agree it’s a nice real tasting mango flavor that balances well with a smooth, not astringent or bitter, black tea.

I will be buying more of this promptly. In fact it’s on sale, via twitter;

@thepuriTea: The new site is live! We’re bringing it in with 10% off Everything for the first week! No coupon code. Happy Shopping! http://www.thepuritea.com/

Post-Steep Additives: German rock sugar, a pinch = bring the mango out more – I highly suggest lightly sweetening this tea.

Resteep: 5 minutes, added German rock sugar to start, just as delicious as the first steep – sweet mango and black tea with no astringency or bitterness

Backlogging the Iced tea of the day…. (SRP #35)

And at the end of a generous sample from QuiltGuppy.

I have to admit, I like this one iced more than I do hot. However, since I do sweeten hot tea, the mango is a little more prevalent when hot. When iced, you just get a fruitiness and a bit of briskness. The briskness really does work in an iced tea, though. Not sure it is super remarkable as an iced tea, but it is good enough that it might make a pretty good addition to a cart to get to the level of free shipping.

Usual iced tea method.

(I am spent for the day. If you had only seen the typos that I fixed….I kept typing ‘toe’ in place of ‘tea’.)

I think the tea foot bath is contagious. It’s your subconscious trying to tell you get into one SimplyJenW ;)

I just tried this again. It seems to have lost alot of the mango flavour. Sadness!
that’s what I get for saving a fave in my cupboard for so long…
Oh well. Now, this reminds me of a mango congou, with the fruit hanging out in the background instead of front and centre. Also, the tea got a little too astringent for me. and I lowered the temp a bit to. Ah well, live n learn!!!

I can honestly say that I haven’t been bowled over by my samples from thepuriTea like I was expecting to be. However, I had yet to try this tea. See, thepuriTea is the source of what is still my very favorite passion fruit black tea; none of the others I’ve tried have really compared. And apparently, there mango black is just as good.

The dry leaf smells like dried mangoes. There aren’t any dried mangoes in the blend or anything, and it’s nice to smell a fruit flavored tea that doesn’t smell like fruit candy, but rather the fruit itself. The addition of hot water has turned the dried fruit to fresh, because the steeped tea smells like a lovely, ripe mango. Not one I would get in the grocery store here in NY, but rather one I would get from a market in Africa. Turns out that I brewed this one a little hotter than I brewed the Passion Fruit Black for some reason, but this tea still turned out super smooth without a hint of bitterness. The mango flavor is juicy and lightly tart without being too tart, and the black tea base adds to the honeyed, lovely taste. Totally awesome. Even if I find no other teas from thepuriTea to buy, these will always have to be in my cupboard.

The dry leaf smells so good – mmmmmmMango!

YUM! The mango flavor is strong in this one. I like it a lot. Pleasant black tea taste, very smooth, no bitterness and only a slight astringency. Nice!

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

Agreed, that is a good one.

LiberTEAS

2nd infusion is just as nice as the first. The astringency is gone in the 2nd infusion and while the mango flavor is a little weaker (just a tad bit weaker) in this infusion, because of the lack of astringency, it is just as enjoyable. I like this tea a lot!

This one happens to be one of AmazonV’s favorites and is what encouraged me to purchase some of my own. I never looked back.

LiberTEAS

it was AmazonV’s tasting note on this that encouraged me to purchase the sample as well.

Well, I took the plunge and bought a pound of this tea without even trying it. I did this based on how much AmazonV raved about this tea. Now, coming from a person that doesn’t like fruity tea much this is very impressive. It tastes just like a mango dessert we have in India. The mango is actually juicy if that is even possible. It is sweet and slightly creamy like yogurt without the sourness. I have a feeling slightly sweetened and iced it would be a fantastic and refreshing drink. Thanks for the great recommendation AmazonV. :-)

AmazonV

YEA! i am so glad you like it, we like it hot, iced, for sniffing ;) we usually do cold brews, but hot brews have turned out well as well.

Quite light in color for a black tea but a very good flavored black, indeed!

The aroma is pleasant and juicy. The taste is a nice black base with medium strength mango flavoring. It tastes like a natural mango and not artificial. This has just the right amount of black tea and mango flavoring! A wonderful combo!!!!

Simply outstanding mango tea. The scent as a dry tea is outstanding, fresh and fruity. I tried this one at 205 for two minutes and it’s perfect! This is an amazing mango black. It’s not bitter and the mango flavor is well-defined and maintains itself well even once steeped. It’s a delicious, tropical taste that just pulls me in with each sip. It’s so lovely!

One of my favorite black teas. From the second I drank think I could not believe that it was just over $1 per ounce. It’s taste is very fresh and tastes very “real”.
With of tea of this price I wouldn’t expect it to steep more than once, but I got 3 and almost 4 steeps from it with great flavor each time.
You can taste a high quality black tea behind the hint of sweet mango and it has a sort of light crisp flavor.
This also makes exceptional iced tea. I have purchased twice already and I will be making a third and forth purchase.
Did I mention how kind the people at thepuritea.com are? I had a mistake on my order and they sent me my correct order with a plethora of free samples all free of charge. I didn’t even pay shipping. They responded to my email both times within an hour. Their customer service is among the highest I’ve ever seen.
The whole experience was excellent. That is all :)
