I got this as a sample way back when I ordered from Persimmon Tree, and I was craving silver needle. I’ve got this and a couple other packets to get through before I open my half pound bag of the stuff. It’s been too long since I’ve had some silver needle, ahhh.

The rating makes this tea look bad, it’s not bad. It’s not as good as Teavivre’s, but it’s not bad at all. I’d think a bad silver needle would be really obvious haha.

It just doesn’t seem as intense, but that’s easily fixed with a bit more leaf. I think normally I drink silver needle pretty strongly, but it still has that taste of spring to it. I miss spring. I went to check the weather earlier and it was 30 degrees warmer in Canada. I didn’t think that was very nice.

This is okay, above average, and tasty. I don’t think I’ll bother resteeping it so I can go drink something else now.

I know what you mean. Today in north Alabama it was only 45 degrees out at 11:00 am when I checked! It called for a couple cups of tea while reading under a blanket.

Ugh I had to leave for my exam around 9:45 and there was even a wind chill!

Very mild taste – vegetal and a little bit like green tea.

I love white tea. This is an interesting one because it goes in a different direction than I expected. Normally, I think hay, melon, cucumber. This one seems to bounce between malt and corn. Even I can tell this one is sweet. The sip ends with a pleasant bite that turns mineral. The aftertaste is corn and floral notes. I steeped this twice as long as I normally would (3 minute) per The Persimmon Tree recommendation. Second western mug brew started clean mineral. then turned briefly earthy, before finishing with a sweet mineral. It left me with mild cheek tingle, a warming sensation, and a coolness on my breath. I plan to try again later with different parameters and see what happens.

Thank you Maria for selling a bit of this one! I’m getting more and more addicted to white teas, though they were once my least favorite. I used almost two teaspoons of these fuzzy leaves, and because they are fuzzy I also rinsed them to get some of the fuzzies out of the cup. At first sip with these types of teas, they seem like they need some getting used to… the flavor seems a bit unpleasant, but then the rest of the mug is just fine. Maybe that makes this tea all the more enjoyable, if at first it doesn’t seem like it will be a good cup but then gets better. The flavor is light and sweet – a bit grassy or hay, and then something like marshmallow. I like the shifting lingering flavor. The second steep has even more flavor, something fruity like a melon and kind of smooths out even more, even though this is a very smooth tea to begin with! I’m not sure if all ‘silver needles’ are also the teas called ‘bai hao yin zhen’. It seems like most white teas are either those types or the ‘bai mu dan’.
Steep #1 // 2 tsps. // 30 min after boiling // rinse // 1 min
Steep #2 // 25 min after boiling // 2-3 min

Sidenote: My first incident of Steepster deleting one of my tasting notes. I was trying to look up my note for David’sTea – Bai Hao Yin Zhen but the tasting note (and my little rating at the top) is completely missing! This worries me as Steepster is my tea brain! I’ll be getting tea amnesia!

Veronica

I use Steepster as my tea brain, too. Missing notes are no good!

Light and dainty. Great for sipping and light tea drinking. Beware: don’t burn the leaves! Read the full review here: http://www.abbisiler.com/tea/the-persimmon-tree-tea-company-silver-needle

I enjoyed this, but it was not as nuanced as many I have had before. It is very dry. It isn’t terrible, but I do think there is better out there.

This is the second white tea I’ve tried from this company, and like the first, this is an incredibly dry tea. I only steeped it for 3 minutes but as soon as I smelled it, I felt the mucus membranes in my nostrils shriveling up.

The taste, thankfully, isn’t as dry and it is still drinkable. I think I should have tried steeping for only a minute or two instead of three full minutes.

Under the dryness, the flavor is extremely pleasant. There are slight floral hints which fade into smoky dryness as the tea passes along my tongue. Very nice but I don’t think I’ll be drinking this regularly in the summer months. May be more welcome when the weather turns cooler.
