From Tazo

A delightfully subtle green tea with the delicate taste and aroma of lotus flower essence. This surprisingly full-flavored yet delicately floral blend is clean and light-bodied, with an aroma reminiscent of freesia.

If LeafSpa Eagle’s Nest Ever Drop has been my commuting to work tea lately, this has been my commuting home tea. I am down to my last eight bags of this, two currently steeping, four in my work stash and two in my home stash. So there will be a sipdown coming next week.

I really will be sorry to see this one go and I expect I’ll buy more, eventually. I have to get closer to sipping down all my decaf options before I do, though.

It’s such a pleasant light floral flavor that really isn’t like anything else I’ve had on a green tea base that can be abused with impunity and which doesn’t taste at all like a decaf. My association with this tea is floating on my back in a swimming pool that’s deserted and still except for me, in the late afternoon while the wind is rustling the leaves of the trees around the pool.

carol who

Empty as in no water? or empty as in no other people? LOL

__Morgana__

Empty as in no people. Hahaha. ;-P

Jennkay

Hahah, I just had the funniest image of a person “floating” on their back at the bottom of an empty pool.

TheTeaFairy

Haha! I thought about the exact same thing!!

Suziqzer

Ditto… same image came to mind when I read that :)

__Morgana__

Well gee, that was a total literary fail! I must pay more attention to what I write in my notes while I’m in the office. ;-)

__Morgana__

I changed it to deserted. Does that help?

TheTeaFairy

Nooooo, you should have left it, it was just more fun that way :-) :-) :-)
That’s exactly the kind of thing that makes reading notes so much fun and interesting, and no worries, no one doubt your literary skills, lol!!! I’m French, i make REAL mistakes all the time :-O

__Morgana__

I make real mistakes all the time too. Homophones are the bane of the internet. I’ll be typing along and realize I just spelled something like their there because I was going by sound instead of thinking about it.

I have a love hate thing with Tazo. I really want to like them because they are so easily obtainable. Usually I just don’t care for them. Sometimes they are way over-blended but sometimes it may not be Tazo’s fault. In all the years I have been trying them I have had exactly one cup of Earl Grey that was fresh enough I could taste bergamot. I live in a tea deprived wasteland. Thank God for the Internet.

Lotus is one of the few I always enjoy. Yeah, the green tea is generic, the flavoring may or may not be authentic and most of the reviews are less favorable than mine. I don’t care I like it anyway. This is a sip down.

Yet another tea bag from today. I was intrigued by this one because I think I would like lotus tea but I have yet come across one. I would have preferred not a decaffinated green and not a teabag, but so it goes. I have no idea how hot my water was but it was probably too hot, and I steeped it some unknown but fairly short amount of time. I got some flavor out of it, and that definitely improved as it cooled, but I was definitely wanting more. It wasn’t bitter, just light and a bit floral. Unfortunately tea bag + paper cup is too much paper flavor for me in my tea, so that also doesn’t help the situation. Still, I definitely want to try more lotus scented teas in the future.

K S

This isn’t too bad if you can control the steep. I agree, I wish it were not decaf and came in loose form.

Dinosara

I’ll have to try it again under slightly better circumstances, but I definitely want to try other lotus greens.

It’s a Tazo tea day!

Hmm, this doesn’t taste much like a green tea. The liquor is very dark, golden/amber in color. It reminds me of the color of honey.

It actually tastes a little like honey too. But not the honey from bees, more like agave nectar. With a little sweetener, it’s drinkable. But not delicious.

Strange, this. I’m getting a bitter taste that’s reminiscient of oversteeping a lower quality tea. Really no grassy greenness at all. Not much in the way of floral lotus either (unless lotus smells/tastes like agave nectar).

It’s too bad they market this as a green tea. The average American consumer who has never tried real green tea will be led astray by this imposter.

It’s back to my loose leaf stores at home! No more mass marketed bagged teas for me!

If it contains Lotus it will have a similar effect to Kava. It’s also called the narcotic of the Nile….

CHAroma

Kava is nothing like Lotus. Blue Lotus has mild psycho-active properties and can act as a mild sedative. Kava interacts with medication and can kill your liver (thus killing you). They are completely different substances.

Charles Thomas Draper

yes of course they are completely different. As far as it killing your liver, I believe that started in Germany where they were using other parts of the plant other than the root.

CHAroma

None of the studies I read applied only to one part of the Kava. It’s probably safest just to not risk it.

This is a funny tea. It’s light, and doesn’t have much definition to it, but I like it all the same… I think I like it because it’s so innocuous. It definitely doesn’t have the flavor of a green tea in any conventional sense, so I’m not sure why they label it that way. I steep it a little longer than usual, otherwise it doesn’t taste like anything at all.

I also like to drink it when I’m not feeling well and strong scents/flavors turn my stomach, so it’s a good “sick” tea.

I don’t know if Tazo still makes this. Even Starbucks used to stock it, but I haven’t seen it anywhere in a while.

I love Tazo teas and this is my favorite of their line-up. The tea liquor is a dandelion wine yellow. It’s aroma is light and reassuring for the person with a cold or just in need of comfort. It has such sweet notes of butter and lemon that still don’t assassinate the green tea taste. I didn’t find it to be especially floral, but the hints of floral were still present.

It’s far from a traditional concept of a green tea. So don’t expect that. You will be upset. It hasn’t the grassy or vegetable notes of some of the more tradition green teas.

TeaCast

I’ve always liked their green teas. Though it isn’t as good as most loose leaf, it is definitely up there in terms of bagged quality. The “Zen” Green Tea is also quite good from them as well.

Sinister

I’ve tried their Zen too… And like you, for bagged tea, Tazo seems to have something on most others… The Zen was more traditional than the Lotus and the China Green Tips was even more so… I suppose I liked Lotus best because it was so different in just the right way. Zen was a close second. A nice flavorful green with plenty of lemongrass making it more…tart, than Lotus. But both great bagged green teas.

The tea liquor is a dandelion wine yellow. I enjoyed the soft floral flavors that blended well and were not overpowering. I look forward to another cup of this tea soon. I must note that I found I only liked this tea hot with a touch of honey.

So, I was sitting at my boyfriend’s house last night, waiting for him to return from his summer bowling league…

It was about 7pm and I was bored channel surfing through one crappy television show after another… so I decided to dig into his tea stash. I found an assorted Tazo box and searched it for some decaf tea because it was late – I don’t normally have tea after 6pm because I seem to be sensitive to caffeine.

I plucked Lotus from the box and made a cup. Bad decision. It was bad, but drinkable. Both the aroma and taste were strictly lotus… it was like chewing on a flower. It was astringent, but I wouldn’t stay it was bitter. Not exactly sweet… just… floral… only floral.

I drank the whole cup, but I will never make this again.

My favorite Tazo tea although it is becoming hard to find in stores. Beautiful light colored liquor with subtle floral tones in the flavor. Sometimes resteeping does not work well on this tea.
