From Stash Tea

Native to South Africa, the honeybush plant derives its name from its yellow flower and honey-scented aroma. It brews a warm red-brown color in the cup and is full-bodied with a slightly sweet and spicy aftertaste. Naturally caffeine free.

Mom finished the bags off before I could get to any. (I was too mesmerized by the Celstial Seasonings Xmas teas and Bigelow’s Apple Cider). She really enjoys it, even without any sweetener, so for that alone I’ll give it a smiley face rating until the day I can actually get to it.

In my opinion, honeybush seems to have the least amount of flavor for a tea. But that is a good thing. Sometimes you don’t want a ton of flavor. Honeybush has a sweet, honeylike scent and mild vanilly flavor, like a milder red tea. It doesn’t help that I’m drinking this with a piece of pumpkin pie, that obviously has a ton of flavor. So I’ll try it again with something less flavorful next time, but it does go well with pumpkin pie! But this tea isn’t disappointing in the least.

It’s all right. Sort of like a rooibos with more spice and less rounded flavor. There’s some cinnamon, some honey, and some apple cider in there. But overall I just don’t like it as much as rooibos. It could have been the meal I was eating with it, but my tongue felt sort of icky after drinking this. I’ll give it another shot sometime, but from this experience I don’t see why I’d ever pick this over a good rooibos.

Honeybush has a very rooibos quality to it. This tea smells sweet and has a honey-esq profile. The flavor is smooth and mildly sweet.

I figured that it’d be a great cup to have, with a book in hand, after a long day with cranky students due to the inability to have a snow day. It is definitely a good tea to have to relax with before bed.

(Side Note: I’d pair this with pastries and chocolates. It’s swell with a smidgen of cream.)

Don’t get me wrong, I do like this tisane, but it is a little weird. The smell of wood is what throws me off, but it is a very good drink with a little bit of honey and milk. If you can get past the smell of wood :).

No scent. Nice light honey color. Gentle taste. Delightful.
