From Simpson & Vail

This Golden Silk Black organic tea is grown in Anhui province in eastern China. This province is a major agricultural region that produces, because of its temperate climate and rich soil, exceptional teas.

The large black, tippy leaves have the brewed aroma of gardens after a rain. The golden cup has a taste that is bright like a Chardonnay with an unusual malty (earthy) aroma and a slight sweet finish. You’ll enjoy this silky, smooth cup any time of the day.

Samurai Travelling Tea Box – Tea #32

Finished off the sample of this as a teacup of tea this morning; it was very nice! I don’t think I’ve explored enough of Simpson & Vail’s catalogue of teas, so I pulled some from the box to try – mostly black teas…

This was smooth and full bodied with robust malt and cocoa powder/baker’s chocolate notes and a pleasant sweet raisin or brandied fruit note on the finish.

This smells so rich and chocolatey that I had to grab a sample from the tea box. The flavor is so malty and thick. I’m really enjoying it. This is my kind of black tea. I added some milk, but it’s also good without. It’s like dessert in a cup.

I’m drinking this one right now too!

From the Samurai TTB.

I’m not sure I know what to say about this one. It tastes good. I’m enjoying it. But it’s not memorable. That sounds harsh, I know. I guess it’s just that I’ve had better teas lately. Also, there were a couple of teaspoons left in the bag so I used half, but I probably should have used the rest. I think that likely would have made a difference.

EDIT – Thanks to tea-sipper for including this one in the box!

additional notes: This one is always unnoteworthy, especially for the price, but note to self: I just tried it with two teaspoons and it is a LITTLE better, especially if I really overbrew that second steep (no astringency, but still not many flavor notes.)
