From Simpson & Vail

Earl Grey teas, traditionally, were blends comprised of varying black teas with Bergamot oil added to them. Today, any tea (green, white, herbal) that is sprayed with Bergamot oil is known as Earl Grey (such as our Emerald Green Earl Grey, and Rooibos Earl Grey.).

This organic Rooibos Earl Grey blend has become a favorite of Earl Grey lovers who don’t want caffeine. We’ve combined organic rooibos and natural bergamot oil to create an aromatic “tea” that has a deep amber cup and a full-bodied, full flavored taste.

Bergamot oil comes from the rind of the bergamot orange, which grows on the citrus tree Citrus bergamia. The oil expressed from the rind is used, in addition to making Earl Grey tea blends, quite frequently in the cosmetic industry (in soaps, lotions, oils and perfumes).

Earl Grey tea is a favorite with bakers in many culinary recipes. It goes especially well with cakes, cookies, confections and any recipe with chocolate!

Ingredients: Organic rooibos and natural bergamot oil.

Shae Advent Day 17

Yay another S&V tea! I’m surprised I’ve never ordered this one myself! The rooibos they use is pretty mild and pleasant. It doesn’t have the boldest EG flavor ever, but it’s nice. I think almond milk goes with it really well. It’s pretty similar to other rooibos EGs I’ve had, but nothing negative or weird here.

I’ve been looking for a good bergamot no caffeine option… probably for the cold winter nights. Something to brighten winter nights up a bit. This one is a winner! This is the strong, crisp, bright lemon bergamot that I love and prefer. Though for me, it could be a tiny bit stronger. But I like a ton of bergamot. That is a small complaint though, when I’m usually very picky with bergamot. The base is just the perfect rooibos — the deepest burgundy in the cup with a lovely flavor that supports that bergamot. The rooibos could be wonderful on its own without any flavor at all. I’m very happy I found this one! Great on the resteep, even if I save the teabag for the next night.
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons for a full mug// 10 minutes after boiling // 3 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 5 minute steep
