Sipdown! I’ve been drinking this at work pretty solidly for the last couple of weeks. It’s easy to brew well, doesn’t need milk, and is pretty much fuss free. I like making tea, but I don’t always have the time, and this is perfect for those manic days. I’ll miss it in my cupboard, but I’ve got a couple more MF teas I can try as a replacement. Earl Grey has always been one of my favourite things, and this is a really, really good one. I’ll buy it again, one day, should I have the chance.

It’s probably the Best Earl Grey I ever had.

It’s an easy tea (after my adventure with Wedding Impérial, I appreciate)
Bergamot is very present but does not “overtake” the floral note offered by blue cornflowers.
The fruity citrus note is delivered with a majestic and harmonious touch.

The tea base itself is very mellow, light but tasty.

This is an euphemism to say I loved this tea.

The funniest is that it wasn’t the one I wanted to purchase : I asked at Mariage’s desk : I want the French Blue Earl Grey, the one with lavender… the Earl Grey Provence was the one I wanted but I can thank the salesman for not reestablishing the correct name of the Tea I first wanted.

Your reviews make me want to try all the Mariage Freres teas!

Ysaurella

We can arrange this if you want Nicole, I can share some with you

ashmanra

This looks so beautiful! I love blue cornflowers in tea.

Terri HarpLady

I’ve been lurking at the Mariage Freres sight myself, contemplating teas I’d like to try.

cteresa

Oh Terri, go for it, they are excellent. though sometimes my favorites are sort of unexpected. And if you like Lapsang Souchong, theirs will ruin every other version for you.

I’ve been a bit scarce around here, and will continue to be, because I am entering the home stretch of my dissertation and I don’t really have time to do anything but work. I am reading Steepster still, but tasting notes generally take too much time. I’m throwing a quick one for this tea up, though, because it’s new to me. Thanks to wheezybee for this sample.

Due to some less than stellar experiences with some Mariage teas, I have not done a lot of seeking them out. I know they can vary widely because the bases can be very different, but I’ve never been impressed enough to go through the (somewhat considerable) effort of trying more of them. However, when wheezybee contacted me about a swap, I decided this would be a good opportunity to try out some of their Earl Greys.

I am certainly more pleased with this tea than most. It’s nicely blended… The bergamot is nice and well-balanced, citrusy and slightly floral, and the base tea is smooth, without astringency or off notes (for me). Nothing about it really stands out, but it’s a tasty Earl Grey, and it does make me believe that there are other MF teas that I would likely enjoy.

Good luck with the dissertation!

ifjuly

Yes, best wishes on your dissertation. And, not that it matters but I agree completely with this review, ha.

ifjuly

(I mean that it’s a very nicely blended EG and whatnot, but it’s not like seeing stars or anything in terms of any one particular aspect knocking my socks off)

wheezybee

Good luck!!!

Sil

Good luck with wrapping things up :)

This tea just continues to impress! It’s gorgeously blended, and makes a wonderful and brisk cup to start the day with.

oh my, Scheherazade my sister is an earl grey fanatic. so i gleefully brewed this up to surprise her.
got out the nice tea cup set.
even got out the little spoons.
i like this tea for it’s balance of boldness and subtlety.
delicious.
my sister once accused me of never buying earl greys. i said ‘of course not, that’s what you’re for!’.
but i would buy this one, i really would.

now back to my fic in which iron man proposes to captain america. dingaling wedding bells dingaling.

When I saw a photo of the tea, I had to get it. Ins’t it Beautiful?! This tea is really nice, it feels like a soft bang in the morning, sweet but firm. I like it! I don’t know how to describe it well yet, as I am new to drinking tea, but I can say this: I like this tea, but not as much as Marco Polo.

Alicia

Do you order Mariage Freres online? Don’t they have amazing shipping? I am sure they charge me and arm and a leg to send me there goods but they are on my doorstep within the week. Glad you liked my pic too. Silly tea didn’t like sitting still! :)

BrookeM

I have ordered from two different places in the states. I have contemplated ordering direct and maybe will next time, but the web-site was hard to navigate.
Which is you most favorite tea from Mariage Freres? Also the violet tea from Russia sounds really great. I think I herd about that one from you?

Alicia

Well definite favorite, I can’t say yet. I am still sampling but its a tie between Jamaique because of its fragrance or The de Paques which I love to drink. It is perfect with this orange cake I make. I have quite a collection of Mariage Freres to explore so I’ll keep you posted.

BrookeM

I am glad to hear you have quite a collection! I have been wanting to talk to someone who has tasted them before I order them. Maybe I will have tried all 10,000 before I die! On my walk today I contemplate the alchemical magic of Marco Polo as opposed to the “just didn’t work” “Birthday” tea. How scents blend together to make something magical or something not so magical is just so neat!

Alicia

I completely agree. It’s nice to be able to find moments to explore and enjoy new things.

Just tried this one today… it’s a whole mouth sort of tea. Meaning there is flavor that excites the entire mouth… very filling. It’s a black tea which has that delicate tang of a fine perfume which I can only guess is the bergamot. It is floral with citrus charm and I swear there is hint of pepper hiding in the back somewhere. I should imagine this would pair charmingly with lemon and a blackberry honey. As of right now, I have spoiled my self with the addition of milk, organic acacia honey, a warm shall and Jane Austen’s Emma. Cheers!

Cofftea

“Whole mouth”- another steepster dictionary entry!:)

Alicia

Woowho! I really like this little site. It’s a pleasant find for my holiday break. Glad I can contribute a few of my charms to this community!

Cofftea

Here’s the thread where you can add it. http://steepster.com/discuss/194-steepster-dictionary I also covet your location. I long to live in WA, but no one will hire me because I don’t currently live there and I can’t move w/o a job.

Alicia

Really? Not Everett but perhaps Seattle… The area is amazing. I awake to the sight of the Cascade Mountain range and love to hike when the roads are safe.

Cofftea

Yeah, I’d love to live in Seattle, Mill Creek, Leavenworth, or Ellensburg (inspite of my ex living there). I’m flying out to Seattle to see my best friend graduate w/ her Ph. D. in physical therapy in June and I know I won’t want to leave. My email address is in my profile- I’d greatly appreciate any recommendation as to good places to drink and buy tea in Seattle, especially a place that serves a good bowla matcha. I’ve actually spent very little time in Seattle but did stop at MarketSpice on my last trip.

Alicia

Will work on this for you! I will prowl around the city and see what I find…

BrookeM

That is another lovely review. I just got this tea too. I like it very much. I don’t have the ability to taste tea the way you do, but I would like to. You have inspired me! I love tea very much, it is a newly found love and I am very excited about it. And this site is fabulous indeed. I see you like Mariage Freres. I have been obsessed with it since finding Marco Polo, but others have yet to compare…

Received a sample of this in a swap with Ysaurella. A very smooth tea. Not a bit of bitterness. Bergamot is present but very light. When cooled, this has a much more pronounced sweetness to it, almost fruity. I’d say this is a medium body tea. Mellow and calming. Very nice, indeed.

This is most certainly the best earl grey I have ever had in my life. It’s light, but distinctive. It has the deepness of an earl grey, but i got a faint taste of floral, which balanced it out beautiful…. i’m thinking I may have to purchase this one :)
