Yay, Lupicia newsletter sample. I’ve always been curious about this one, but skeptical of how I would like it since it seems to have a similar (Assam-blend) base to the Calissons d’Aix. I loved the flavor in that tea, but the base is too robust for me, meaning the assam tastes bitter to me.

The dry sachet smelled super sweet, bake-y, and well, like a cookie. I went into this knowing I would probably want to add milk and sugar to it. However, I did want to try it before doing so. I was surprised by how smooth the base tasted! Maybe a hint of assam-y bitterness, but really, I probably could have drunk the whole thing straight. But at that point I had my heart set on a milky sweet tea, so milk and sugar it is. This is really quite delicious. Definitely like drinking a cookie. I would not be sad to have a whole 50g of this. Glad to finally get a chance to try it!

Also got an email letting me know that Chestnut Green was back in stock at Lupicia! Wow, that one has been out of stock for FOREVER. It’s so tempting to order some before it disappears again!

As you can see from my lack of notes I have been part of an assassination plot known as an 8 page paper + test one day followed by a 38 question take home final, homework, and another test the next day. I have lived, I am not sure if my grades did. (Who am I kidding they’re probably all on life support anyway but at this point I just strive to meet the grades that make the class count.)

BUT I am now done with 1/2 my semester and I don’t think I even have to go to school tomorrow and I have one class entirely left and then a week to study for micro. And then after that test I get a week off before I’m taking environmental econ. I hope I don’t need to repeat any classes but I might have to repeat one. Which sucks but ugh this semester.

So now I can finally log my teas from the past couple of days starting with Cookie, which helped me write my paper. I got this from Azzrian forever ago and I was messing w/my teas last week and realized how many things I’ve gotten from people and held onto for ages and haven’t tried, so I’m attempting to do that over new things. I’m gonna try not to open packages now and get through these old ones.

I was pretty sure I was going to have to go grab milk and sugar to make this tasty, since it’s CTC and old. But it turned out just fine and was tasty. The flavor was more like a tea biscuit rather than a cookie, but better than your average biscuit…this has caramel.

I have enough left to give it a shot a bit stronger, I’d be curious to try it that way with milk and sugar. Just didn’t want to this particular day.

Thanks to QueenOfTarts for this yummy sample. At first I wasn’t overly impressed, but as it cooled the buttery cookieness emerged and I really enjoyed this tea. I’m already craving more! I also like that it’s a strong tea first and then a cookie. I love Pineapple upside down cake, but it’s more of a (delicious) liquified cake. Perfect for when I want something sweet and don’t need much caffeine. Cookie tea is a strong morning tea for when I don’t want anything too sweet yet and want a strong cup of black tea.

This tea tastes amazing. It has a mildly sweet flavor, which tastes a little like cookies and remarkably like hazelnut to me. Not sure if that’s part of the ingredients or not, but it doesn’t look like Lupicia is telling! There is a little bit of caramel note at the end, with a smooth (but fairly light) tea base.

Sandy mentioned that she thought it tasted like watered down coffee. I don’t agree (though, I do like coffee). However, it does very, very much remind me of the hazelnut non-dairy creamer that my sister puts in her coffee. I wonder if Sandy has just been tricked with hazelnut coffee ;)

Num nums. Very tasty. Price is a little unappetizing, but oh well. If I work up to ordering from Lupicia, this is definitely on the list.

Another old sample from a box from way back. Improperly stored, possibly smell contaminated. I really regret being lazy about my samples now! The dry smell is pretty nice. I get some sweetness and a hint of cinnamon.

Steeped, this smells weird. It smells like freshly buttered corn, or prhaps popcorn. I steeped it only 2 minutes as the smell really started to intimidate me – as food it would be really appetizing but as tea it’s just weird. And nothing at all like a cookie!

The leaf is not something I’m used to, there were little nubs that looked like the Kenyan Tinderet from DavidsTea. I’m thinking this has Indian and/or African tea in it, neither of which are my forte. I see that Lupicia recommends it with milk. Sadly, I don’t like to add things to my tea, and I can rarely be persuaded to imbibe milk in any form. I’m not familiar with Lupicia as they don’t ship to Canada, but I really don’t like that they don’t seem to list their ingredients, or at least the base tea. Inquiring minds want to know!

Despite my apprehension about the smell I’ve decided to at least try it. First sips echo the aroma. I get BOLD black tea, almost as roasty and bitter as coffee. I definitely do not care for the base here and I can’t seem to get past it. I don’t get any caramel or anything else, though that could be because of it’s age. I even steeped it in a TSac to minimize bitterness, but this one just isn’t palatable to me. I’ll offer it up to the beau’s coworkers, perhaps someone there will take to it. :)

A very interesting and lovable tea! It smells really like butter/almond cookies – very sweet, buttery and caramely – but there’s no cookie flavour in the liquor at all. Taste-wise it’s a sweet and intensely aromatic black tea. It’s like you are having tea with some freshly baked cookies even though all you are having is just a cup of this! I mean, how can Lupicia manage to do this??? It’s simply amazing, if not magical! A must-have for people with a sweet tooth but are currently on diet ;)

Tea of the morning…..

This was not part of my 2012 Lucky bag, but I have been eyeing this tea ever since I heard of Lupicia. It is a rich black tea base with cookie flavor that is lightly almond and lightly caramel. What I do like about it, is that the flavor is subtle without being too overly sweet. It just makes the rich tea base more fun. In comparison with the flavored teas from Harney that I usually drink, this one actually has something bready flavored going on. I am sure it is a completely different tea base for a flavored tea than what I have previously tried. I am very pleased with this! It is strong enough for a morning tea.

Okay, I decided that it’s just not realistic enough for me to refrain from tasting my new teas while trying to drink up my older teas. I’ve been trying diligently for a couple months now to use up my opened teas but it’s getting so boring!

So today, I couldn’t take it anymore, I just had to open up this tin! I was dying to try it!

And it is yummy!! Kind of like liquified Twix! Very caramelly with a burnt cookie edge.

It smells very sweet—do they actually put sugar in this? But the taste is more bake-y than sugary. I think this would be super with milk. This could even be a tea equivalent of Starbuck’s Caramel Machiatto!

Very satisfying if you’re craving something sweet and warm. :)

So I’ve been away from Steepster for a bit. I come back and Holy Cow! Everything looks different! I think I like. :)
Anyway, this tea showed up with my monthly Lupicia newsletter. I had been on Whole 30 for the past month, so my diet was restricted to purely nutritious and beneficial foods. No cookies! I really missed sweets on some days. Thankfully, there was always tea. And this tea tastes like cookies! So I opened it up today and OMG it smells like those multi-layered wafer cookies with vanilla frosting in between every layer. Mmmmm…tastes like sweet childhood. :) After a few tasty sips, I added a few splashes of full fat coconut milk. Amazing addition! So creamy and luscious! I do think the caffeine content is rather high in this. I am positively buzzing! I may need to get some of this for those days where I feel like I need a little sweetness in my life.

Now it’s off to make healthy versions of Super Bowl foods. I don’t even like football. The things you do for love…
