I received a sample of this tea from the ever generous SimplyJenW. Thank you!

I shared this today with my puer-loving friend. She is not a fan of tropical fruit punches, citrus flavors, etc. so she didn’t care for it. She likes a good, strong, unflavored puer.

I enjoy plain puer also, but I liked the flavor of this. I found it very orange-y especially. At first I thought I didn’t taste puer at all, but after giving it a good swish the heady, earthy taste rose up.

I agree with Jen. This is puer with training wheels. If you don’t like puer but want the benefits of it, you could drink this. If you love puer and want strong, earthy flavor every time, this probably isn’t the best tea for you. It is very well done and requires no additions. I think even people who normally add sugar and/or milk to their tea would love this plain.

I like it very much as a flavored tea, though it probably won’t satisfy the cravings of a hard core puer lover.

Thank you, Jen!

Tea of the afternoon…..

I think this is tea #5 from my Lupicia Happy Bag 2012. I have Jardin Sauvage and Nilgiri FOP to go.

Let’s just say the one or two times I have tried puer it was quite disasterous. I am pretty sure I was supposed to rinse that one and then steep for drinking, so all I tasted was dirt. I have to say, this tea is far from my distant memories of my puer tuo cha fail so long ago (probably only about eight months ago, LOL!) This one tastes earthy, but not of just earth, if that makes sense. I actually find this incredibly close to what coffee tastes like. It has a richer, fuller mouth feel than most black teas, and after the first several sips, I kind of get that settling feeling in my stomach that so many have mentioned. Very interesting. Puer with training wheels! There are hints of fruit with this one, and it is very pleasant. All in all, a good, happy surprise, but now I can’t wait to try the Chocolate & Strawberry one I ordered!

15 oz Mug, 2 actual tsp tea, 3 minutes freshly boiled water. Lightly sweetened.

This makes me sad that I missed out on the Happy Bags this year. I forgot about it until 1pm on New Year’s Day and they were already sold out. So sad!

SimplyJenW

I think I just barely got in….I ordered around 9am Eastern time on New Year’s Day. All the $50 bags were gone, but I was so thankful to have snagged a $30 bag…I had been waiting for a year! Maybe next year for you?

ashmanra

I can hardly wait to try this one! I wanted my first cup of it to be with my puer tea friend, but her son got sick today and she couldn’t come over. I did drink puer today, though. See my tasting note! :). I will be ordering the chocolate strawberry puer soon, some for me and some as my friend’s b- day gift. I bet this one ends up on my order, too.

gmathis

Pu-erh training wheels! That’s what I need!

Auggy

Yep, next year I’ll have to do what I’ve done in year’s past and just order at 2am! First time in three years that I’ve missed ‘em. I’ve learned my lesson!

One of Lupicia’s newest teas, Sunny Fruits Puer is an awesome tea! I was a little skeptical of it because I seriously dislike puer. On the few occassions that i have had the pleasure of drinking it i have usually felt ill afterwards BUT NOT THE CASE WITH THIS TEA!

The aroma is fruity with the hints of citrus and an array tropical fruits! The aroma still lingers quite strong even after you brew it! The taste is a wnderful tropical fruity taste with a sweet afternot of citrus! It doesnt even taste like puer at all!

I highly recommend this tea!

Now that sounds weird. Which, of course, means I must try it lol.

it sounds weird but it is soo good! And yes, you must try it!

LiberTEAS

Is this the sample that is sent with this month’s newsletter?

Mad_Alyss_14

no, the Chocolate & Strawberry Puer is the sample for the February Newsletter, this one just happened to catch my eye. They alos have a Cinnamon Cookie Puer. Those plus this one are the 3 new flavored puer teas that Lupicia has introduced this month.

I first tried this as an iced tea this summer at the Lupicia store. I bought it immediately it was so good! At home, making the iced tea, I add lemon and some sweetener (either a bit of sugar or splenda). I’m a newbie to tea but really enjoy this one!

From the traveling tea box. Not one I would have purchased for myself before trying it… as I generally don’t like papaya. Love mango though!
Dry, it smells super fruity. Like a tropical punch, but a bubblegummy one. That aspect comes through in the brewed tea as well, only not quite as strongly.
I haven’t got much else to say really. Fruity mango noms. Pairs surprisingly well with Puer! since I’ve never tried the base, I don’t really feel qualified to comment. Then again I’m still on the first steep so there may be an update fortcoming ;)

Tropical! This is a neat mango papaya ripe pu’er blend. The fruity flavors are quite upfront and natural tasting, and you can clear tell apart the papaya and mango. The puer base is earthy and kinda mushroomy.

My first cup was pretty papaya heavy, on the border of floral soap. My second cup was much more even.

BTW, this tea is best iced, omg, so good! Personally, I think Lupicia’s Chocolate Strawberry Puer is better, but Sunny Fruits Puer preforms better iced.

I’ve tried a couple of Lupicia’s pu-erh blends and I’ve been pleased with them. The Chocolate Strawberry was yum.

I liked this one a lot! I think it tasted a bit less puerh-ish than the others, though that could be a good or bad thing. I love how you picked such a tropical fruit-colored owl for this post! :P

Oolong Owl

haha, the only “sunny fruit” I had on hand to photo with a tropical tea owl was a lemon :P

AllanK

Very interesting blog post, makes me want to try this tea.

From the SSTTB…though it’s on it’s second round, so maybe I should be doing SSTTB #2 like OMGsrsly, though this is my first crack at the box…I dunno.

I chose this one today because we had a dusting of snow overnight, and it was really cold this morning when I got up. But it was also sunny. So I opted to have a tropical yet hardy tea, and this is what I picked. I’ve kind of been waiting for the right time to have it.

This one tastes a bit like David’s old Aloha Pu Erh, but perhaps just a little different…a little less artificial? I also added milk to mine, as I pretty much do with all my shu pu erhs.

I like this, and I will have more, when the mood strikes, though it is not a love. It is a like. I agree with other reviewers that this is a good pu erh for newbies.

Oh man! I was not expecting to like this at all because of my not-so-awesome-one-time-only experience with Puerh in the past. I got it anyway because Lupicia had this as one of their half-off sale teas for this month in stores. I figured it was worth it for 10 bags at $3.75 and I’m so glad that I got it now. In the bag, there is definitely a strong fruity smell. Pineapple was my guess until I read the back and saw mango and papaya listed. Whatever…they’re all tropical :) It doesn’t smell as strongly when brewed, but it still smells wonderful. And I don’t get any earthiness or fishy smell/taste. It’s just fruits with what tastes like a black base that I’m not used to. This is a far cry from the only other puer/puerh I’ve had (which was Numi’s Emperor’s Puerh). That makes me wonder how this one stacks up in terms of the benefits puerh is supposed to have…Either way, this is so tasty that it makes me very eager to try some of Lupicia’s other puer flavors (Chocolate & Strawberry Puer…I’m looking at YOU!) and makes me think that Lupicia is coming in as my second favorite place to buy tea, with Butiki being first…for a little while longer at least :(

Flavors: Fruity, Tropical

I’d say 10 bags for $3.75 is a pretty good deal!

Numi’s Emporer was my first puerh too, enjoyed it enough to start on the Puerh Quest.

The Cookie Lady

I think my problem was that I was so not ready for it yet…I hadn’t even had many straight teas yet, let alone ones that were so earthy. All I noticed was everything that I wasn’t used to…which translated to everything I don’t like yet. If I were to have a cup of it again now, I’d probably do a lot better with it. I have Numi’s chocolate pu-erh and one other from their sampler box to try. I’ll see how that goes.

Jude

Ha, interesting 1st experience. It’s deep enough to be a good sub for coffee drinkers I’ve intro’d it to. You might like their magnolia puerh (it’s a blend though) and the chocolate is going to be lighter, as well.

This Lupicia tea is a sample from Mikumofu, and it’s in sachet form. I can see cute little shreds of red flower petals mixed in with the dark puerh leaves. Dry scent is sweet and tart citrus with some fishiness from the puerh. I used 1 sachet in 8 ounces of water.

Once steeped, it smells much the same as it did dry – sweet and citrusy – but it’s now more earthy instead of fishy. Yum, I actually really like this one! The fruit flavor is nice and refreshing and sweet, and it seems like a combination of citrus with some stonefruit. I can taste the puerh only a little and it just manifests as an earthy flavor. Very yummy and summery!

SSTTB2 #2.

This smells SO GOOD dry. So good. Like tropical bodywash or something. Steeped only 2 minutes, it tastes pretty good. I added milk, so it’s a little creamy (Also cooled down because it’s so weird to steep anything at boiling anymore!), and tastes of mixed tropical fruit. I think mango, citrus, pineapple… not sure what else. It is quite floral, but I think that can be from mango and pineapple as they can both be very floral fruits.

The puer is a little musty, but not fishy. It’s a nice backdrop that occasionally comes forward a bit more.

I like it. I’m not getting any soapy flavour, and I think I like the “Berry Bavaria” I have from Cornelia Bean better just because I prefer berry flavours to tropical fruits. But still, it’s quite nice! Back into the box it goes!
