Bangkok (Green Tea with Coconut, Ginger and Vanilla)

Mmmm I love this tea. It always reminds me of being on the beach with a sandy beach towel. The smell is luscious and captivating. The body is smooth and packed with flavors of, you guessed it, lemongrass and also coconut predominating. This is always a great pick me up and puts me into a summery state of mind. Great for the spring and summer months in my opinion. Also good iced. Harney and Sons does sell an iced version.

Picked this up during my latest run to Target and I was not expecting to enjoy this tea so much. I normally don’t like coconut so I was hoping the vanilla and lemongrass would compliment it well enough that it wouldn’t bother me. Well, I can definitely taste the base and all the flavors work in harmony of it. The base is very light and not very vegetable and has just a hint of natural sweetness.

Tasty, got this out at Barnes and Nobel when I needed a tea fix! The coconut is strong, not artificially tasting and I do get a vanilla after taste. Not sure on the ginger part myself, I don’t pick up any or I’m Losing it searching for the green tea itself. I made a second infusion and it held up nicely, you definitely taste the ginger the second time around
Will buy again!

I like this one. Tried it a few years ago at the bookstore and appreciated how unique it was. Recently acquired a pretty green tin of it which smells awesome after each opening.
I like the short tea bag string, the pyramid shaped bag, and looking at the little dry pieces in it.
The tea tastes like it smells, lovely, and with a quite prominent coconut taste. Its one of the few green teas I can enjoy. I imagine this tea will remind me of the south once I move from it.

I steeped 2 bags of this tea for 14oz water @170F for 4 minutes. This tea is a beautiful light lime green color with an aroma of coconut plus something savory/spicy that I’ve never smelled before in a green tea.

This tea tastes light and buttery with an aftertaste of coconut and a bit of the ginger zip to it. I found this refreshing hot and am curious as to how it would be iced? Maybe the second steep I will try iced if I get any flavor out of it.

The leaves in these pyramid bags get almost too big for the bag, they certainly expand beautifully. May have to cut the bag open next time and experiment!

I went to a friend’s house and had this. It was delicious and I enjoyed the coconut and ginger. I’m not a huge fan of green teas since they always turn bitter for me, but they always seem easier to steep when they are in a bag. I didn’t need to put honey or sugar in it.

I ordinarily don’t care much for flavored teas. And, I’m not a big fan of many green teas either.

I love this tea.

The coconut flavor is mild and very natural tasting, and does not overwhelm the bright, grassy notes of the green tea. So often coconut flavored teas have a very harsh in-your-face I’m-meant-to-taste-like-coconut-but-really-taste-like-the-product-of-a-chemical-lab sort of flavor. The ginger is a gentle sort of zing that tickles the palate in passing. Harney’s ginger oolong is one of my favorite teas, and now it has competition. I think this will have to become a cupboard staple, as I don’t want to think about running out.

So my sister works at Barnes & Noble, and I saw this on the shelf one day. I asked her colleague behind the counter at the cafe if they had any of the small sample size tins. They did not, but he was nice enought to hand me a single tea bag from their open cafe stock to try, free of charge. No sweet of him! Anyway, because these tea bags are so big, and good for 2 cups, I dropped it into my 2 cup tea pot the next day to give it a whorl. SO tastey! Definately a green tea, but the coconut and ginger where there too, so it wasn’t just ANY cup of green tea. As soon as I have some money (stupid college), I’m going to have to pick up a tin of this tea.

This is a lovely, clean-tasting green tea which is blended beautifully with the ‘Thai trifecta’ of coconut, ginger & lemongrass- perfumed but never overpowered, by a feminine vanilla. For those who are green tea purists or prefer straight tea yet might be tempted to try it flavored, i would recommend these sachets wholeheartedly, as they impart a light, clean flavor with trace remnants of the aforementioned ingredients.

The aroma of the tea sachets prior to steeping is an accurate ‘portrayal’ of what you will taste; nothing changes or morphs while in water & the green tea’s presence can be distinguished among the other flavors, peeking its head out in a quaint way. It is not bitter, phenolic, overly vegetal or grassy, not even nutty, and i like my green teas delicate with a light toasted flavor. I’m not sure which kind of green tea is used here, but I imagine it is of a reasonably high quality, due to the fact that I steeped this well over the recommended time past which green teas are purportedly impotable & it’s not even ashy, which I totally appreciate.

Additionally, the coconut & lemongrass in this taste very natural and authentic, and are probably the most pronounced, if ever more slightly so than the ginger & vanilla, though the ginger no doubt mixes beautifully with the lemongrass to give it an added dimension, as is the case with so many Red & Green Thai Curries I’ve tried; and believe me when I say, i love spice!

Overall, I’d say this flavored green tea is sophisticated and exercises restraint, which I’m sure will be appreciated by many tea sommeliers and aficionados. The liquor is a very light, clear peridot (that too with 2 sachets), almost mesmerizing, or perhaps I’ve been staring at it too long ;)

ETA: i keep going back to smell the sachets, and at times the vanilla & coconut seem dominant, and at times the lemongrass cuts through. I suppose everything is subject to our interpretation, or maybe this is just a sign that all ingredients are well-balanced?

Thanks Josie Jade for a sample of this. A zesty, smooth, very drinkable, blend. I can taste coconut the most, followed by subdued notes of lemongrass and ginger. I like this! If I can hold myself off from gulping down the rest of my mug, I might stick what’s left in the fridge to try it iced later.
