From Harney & Sons

Big leaves are plucked and dried into a large ball. Later jasmine flowers are mixed in. This tea is light in body, yet is full of wonderful floral flavor. The balls are about the size of Lichee fruit, but it is not Lichee tea.

Loose tea in tin Brews 30 to 40 cups of tea Caffeinated

Brewing Instructions:

Heat pot with boiling water until warm to the touch. discard that water and put a jasmine globe in teapot. Pour 180 degree (F) water over tea and steep for 5 minutes. Pour through strainer, or if jasmine globe is in a filter, remove filter.

These are from Nicole’s package a while back. thanks so much! I’ve never had big old globes before. I must have waited too long for the water to cool (35 minutes). After a 3 min steep, this is barely any different than plain water.. the globe hasn’t unraveled at all. There are hints of sweet jasmine though, so it isn’t entirely plain water. I’ll see how the second steep is with hotter water….
… Just boiled water didn’t make the tea bitter somehow. But there still wasn’t much flavor either. It seems like most of the globe is tied together with string and then the outer leaves open like a flower. This would be a nice jasmine option if you prefer subtlety, but I happen to love more flavor with my jasmine teas.

This is pretty mild in flavor. It’s okay that it is, though. I didn’t want anything heavy to go with Thai and until I get some jasmine pearls or stop by Shang to pick up some of his jasmine white, this is what I got. This may have suffered from being pretty old as well, though I did keep it in the original tin, in the foil liner, in a dark cupboard… under lock and key with a guard tiger… But it is probably at least 3 years old. And I truthfully don’t remember what I thought about it when it was fresher. At any rate, this is one globe from a sipdown and I probably won’t replace it. Mainly because I have to drink way too much of it to justify using a whole globe. :)

The globes are tea leaves tied into a flower – they expand when brewing, but remain tied in a cluster.

The tea is light and delicate, with a very light jasmine aroma. The flavor reminds me of a very pale, light version of Jasmine Silver Needles, and I wonder if perhaps the tea would not be more flavorful if it weren’t bundled. It’s a pleasant cup, but I prefer Jasmine Pearls or Jasmine Silver Needles. When I took my first cup from the pot, I removed the tea bundle, but after sipping that cup, it occurred to me that a longer brew time might improve the tea, so I returned the bundle to the pot while I finished the cup. My second cup was much stronger and more flavorful than the first. I think a steep of at least 7 minutes greatly improves the cup. It has the delicate sweetness and wonderful fragrance I expect from a good quality jasmine.

This is a very delicate tea. There is a light jasmine aroma that is much weaker than many other jasmine teas I’ve tried. The taste is similarly light. The green tea component seems like a quality green but is a little on the weak side. It is absolutely devoid of bitterness (which is wonderful), but doesn’t have much of a vegetal taste either. This combination makes it a perfect background to enjoy secondary taste, like jasmine. The problem is the jasmine taste is quite weak as well.

Don’t get me wrong the tea is GOOD, it is just a little muted.
