From Golden Moon Tea

There’s vanilla, and then there is vanilla. Sometimes “vanilla” is poured out of a small, dark bottle into your favorite boxed cake mix. That stuff is like that “iPod” you bought in Chinatown. Sure it may work, but it really isn’t the same. Our vanilla is straight from the vanilla bean. Not just any bean, but the world famous bourbon vanilla bean found in Madagascar. We chop up the beans, blend them with a pure, organic Indian tea base and let it age for over a month. Why? Because Madagascar Vanilla ends up having a fully infused, rich flavor with no weird chemical aftertaste. Sure it is a lot of trouble for us to make this tea, but it’s well worth it.

Madagascar Vanilla mixes rich black tea with slices of real vanilla bean to produce a deep flavor that includes notes of dark rum, sweet earth, and tropical flowers. Both smooth and exotic, this tea is great served with a touch of whole milk and buttered toast for a nice morning treat.

Fairly robust. Lots of good vanilla flavor. Delicious with cream and a little sugar.

I wish it had more body, though. And a heftier mouthfeel. (A vanilla scented yunnan would be so good!) Maybe I didn’t steep it long enough?

Sample 10/31
While I liked this tea, I didn’t like it as much as the vanilla mint tea that Golden Moon also sells. The vanilla taste is not very prominant in the brewed tea in fact I think I think I taste more mint than vanilla. Not a bad tea but there are better vanilla offerings by this company.

Smells better than it tastes. Not bad, but there are so many better flavored black teas out there. Harney’s Vanilla Comoro, decaf though it is, is superior to this.

Ok, so I actually tried this tea 2 days ago. Oops. I got busy and only typed a few lines before I needed to run off so this will be brief. I still wanted to log it though.

Smells of vanilla, Tastes of black tea with vanilla. Warming. Nothing special but nothing bad. Hmm, I wish I’d typed more or had it in front of me now but sadly this tiny bit is all I can manage for this tea.

Brewed 3 min. 1Tsp raw sugar. Hot.
This is my favorite vanilla tea. Golden Moon has stuck a very nice balance between the tea and the vanilla.
They did this by using a tea that can be called a weaker tasting black tea to allow the vanilla to come out in more prominence than in most other vanilla teas.
Which is awesome for me since I don’t really like black teas that hit you over the head with flavor anyway. There is no tannic bitterness or astringency.
Just a delightful, light vanilla tea.

Additional notes: This manages to be much better when I’m using my 16-20 minutes after boiling and only steeping for 2 minutes method (first steep). No more sarsparilla notes. This is an amazing tea today! Perfect choice. Also added some cocoa powder to some dark pu-erh. Now that I’m having it again, I THINK I tried this before? And again I’m realizing when I add enough cocoa, the pu-erh tends to disappear… even if the pu-erh is very deep. So I think I prefer either cocoa or pu-erh instead of mixing them.

The vanilla is very strong in this one. I adore vanilla so I do like this tea, but the vanilla is the prevalent taste. If you like vanilla, you will like this one.

This reminds a lot of Mandala’s Noble Mark oddly enough.

Good tea.

Just because I’m still finding my taste buds for black teas (even though they most often have the fun flavors!), I steeped this for 3 instead of the recommended 4 minutes. Added sugar on my way to work, it didn’t help. This one isn’t for me. I am very happy I was able to try it though. Thanks again TeaNTees :)

There’s definitely vanilla in this tea but there more to it than that – there a toasty, almost pastry-like scent and flavour, possibly due to the base, making this tea very dessert-like. It’s a very smooth tea with nice, creamy undertones and slight hints of fruitiness in the aftertaste.
