Appearance: Deep orange amber liquor. The leaves are long, dark and whole, when they’ve unfurled. A few are still attached to their twigs!
Scent: Nuts and brown maple leaves. Roasted chestnuts? A slight sprinkling of sugar.
Taste: Yum!! Definitely like roasted chestnuts! Simultaneously woodsy, leafy and sweet—like steamed sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves. A scattering of golden raisins?
Last Thoughts: I love it! I really enjoy the roasted, toasted quality intermingling with the sweet leafy-ness. I’m intrigued by the oolongs I’ve tried so far. I want to try more!
I just realized that I’m picking up nearly the same tastes as the Sugar Caramel Oolong! But this seems more “brown” than “green”—more cooked than fresh. They are both different yet similar. It’s an oolong thing, I guess. :)

I like this one. Leaves were more on the black side but still had the fresh smell.

Between an amazing Star Wars event at my library and the US premiere of the new Dr. Who tonight I feel wiped out. (I gots me a photo of a Stormtrooper and me holding a cookie! Yes, I’m that sort of nerd). All this is to say that I’m struggling writing this note. It’s a fine oolong. It seemed very very woodsy (like moss, dirt, greenery – all that jazz) in both scent and taste. I looked at the little sample packet to read what on earth I was supposed to be tasting. Maybe “musky cedar?” My wacky taste buds really couldn’t pick up anything else. My mouth did a quasi-half-hearted dance of sweetness. I had to stop at the 4th steep, but it still seemed to be going strong. I keep waffling (mmm…waffles) between thinking that I’d order more of this or not. And since I’m uncertain, then I probably won’t. NE.
I am over halfway through my sample kit. It’s a fun voyage! I started with the teas I was most excited to try first, now I am onto the ones I wasn’t sure. This tea seems woodsy, has some twigs in the mix. Roasted flavor is medium strength. It’s a bit earthy. I didn’t resteep since I am not crazy for it. Still made a nice cup.
This is delicious! Tastes like date-nut bread (which I love!) Then it changes a bit, lighter with a hint of citrus. A tease of a tea, something new with each sip. I brewed this western-style because I wasn’t sure of the amount in the sample, but I will definitely purchase a tin to steep in my tiny oolong pot—can’t wait to taste the changes then!
