Inkling Advent Day 3 (actually this was day 2 and I accidentally drank day 7 yesterday, thinking it said 2 – whoops!) I’ve considered making orders from Dessert by Deb, but I never have, so I’m excited to try this! The flavor is mostly just plain black tea. A lot of coconut and other things are in the blend, but I don’t taste them. Maybe with different steeping parameters more of the other flavors would come out. Luckily Inkling provided enough for a second cup, so I’m eager to test! Even though I only taste the black tea, it’s a nice one, so I don’t mind.
The base is smooth with just enough depth to make it substantial. The first smell and taste is lemongrass. While there’s nothing wrong with it, I wasn’t overly thrilled with just a lemongrass black tea. Happily, the banana starts to kick in as the tea cools. It takes a backseat to the lemongrass, but they fit nicely together, creating an almost creamy profile. Overall, a fairly tasty cup and I’m grateful to have been able to try it.

Finally got my Dessert by Deb order after a month of it hanging out in Chicago. So I’m going on a tasting spree since I still need to choose my teas for my Instagram giveaway win!
The dry leaf smells heavenly, with a rich and sweet banana aroma. And it tastes pretty good too! The banana flavor is strong but tastes like an actual ripe banana, with plenty of sweetness. The coconut is secondary and adds a bit of creaminess. I’m not sure I taste the lemongrass at all, at least in this cup? There’s a slight green-ness to the banana at the end of the sip that I really enjoy.
My only complaint is that I can’t really taste the black tea underneath the stronger banana flavor. But it does remind me a bit of banana bread because of the sweet, ripe banana notes. And that’s pretty close to cake!

I love banana teas, but I’m not really loving this one. The banana fragrance is much more pleasing than the banana flavor. It’s a bit too mild for me. I’m not really getting any cake flavor either. This cup was also strangely savory, and had a cooked vegetable flavor going on.
I oversteeped this and then forgot about the mug so I got a lot of brisk and cold black tea when I did get around the drinking it, but also a nice greener banana note paired with hints of lemongrass and toasted coconut. While not really “cake like” those flavours were nice and I thought well balanced with each other aside from the dominating black tea from my crude and forgetful steeping.
