Coconut Maple Custard

The coconut was super strong with this one but it was pretty nice, definitely would drink it again :)

Inkling Advent Day 13. Maybe this tea will turn me into a coconut person! This is the first tea from Deb that I felt leaned hard enough into the dessert flavor it’s going for. The coconut flavor is so authentic, and something about it really is custardy. It goes well with the black base, plus some milk and sweetener. It doesn’t taste like much hot, but at room temperature, it’s super pleasant. I’m glad there’s enough in here for another few cups, thanks Inkling!

I think I got 75g of this in my very first Dessert by Deb order, and it’s one of my favourites. I just love the creamy coconut, although I do find that I prefer it when I use a bit more leaf than recommended.

Like all of Deb’s teas, this smelled so fragrant and fresh!

You can completely tell that everything is handmade and created with so much love. It makes it hard for me to try regular flavoured tea blends now lol, which often have artificial flavour added. Sometimes the artificial flavour works, but other times it is too strong for me and ends up tasting like chemicals!

I made this as a latte, stove-top style. I mostly taste coconut and cream? It tastes a bit like custard, but I actually think her ginger crème brûlée tea tastes more like custard? However, I will finish this up.

I think I just would have liked more complexity in this. It just tastes like a good coconut tea right now.

I put the rest of this sample in a mason jar in the fridge one night, swearing to myself I wouldn’t forget it the next morning… and did exactly that. I’m not sure how long it’s been in there at this point other than less than a week. I ran out of creamer about a week ago as well. Trader Joe’s rarely has it in stock because they sell out so fast and are limited by distribution on how many they can order for each day. All that to say no lattes for me. Still, this is a decent cup. As I’ve been sipping it I’ll run into one sip that has a flatness to it only to have it gone for a few more sips. I’m sure I didn’t do this tea any favors with days in the fridge. The start of the sip is muted, but towards the end the coconut comes out and there is a sweetness from the maple. I do wish there was a little more maple flavor instead of just the sweetness. Somewhere in the finish I think I get custard like notes. This was a fun tea to try!

Cold Steep over night in a giant glass mug.

Based on VariaTEA’s note, I skipped over trying this hot and went right for the cold tea. I didn’t even add milk or anything, just had it straight up, and it’s good. It reminds me a tad of 52Tea’s Coconut Pie Tea a while back but this is smoother and more decadent, with maple syrup and custard flavours, the latter of which can come across as kind of tangy (but not tangy? Good job describing stuff, Crowkettle)

I would like to say more but my Mom promptly stole my mug and refuses to give it back. I’ll just have to make more.

So, per Sil and Roswell Strange’s suggestions, I made this as an iced latte. This is really good this way. It’s got a nice coconut flavor but is genuinely custard-y. I’m a fan. There is more vanilla and coconut than maple I’d say but personally I don’t mind.
