Tea of the Week for April 18, 2022!

Yum! This is smooth & coconut-y with notes of lemon that weave throughout the sip & linger in the aftertaste with a bright, tangy note. It evokes thoughts of springtime!

This delightful tisane starts with green rooibos (fresh & light!), a little lemon grass, lemon verbena & lemon thyme, plus dried lemon wedges & coconut. It’s naturally caffeine-free, organic, vegan, gluten-free, all natural & absolutely delicious! A perfect late-night dessert-y treat that’s guilt-free & won’t keep you awake all night!

organic ingredients: green rooibos, lemon grass, lemon myrtle, lemon thyme, coconut, lemons & natural flavors

more about this tea: One of my favorite dessert-y treats of late have been something I found in our local produce market which is a Pot de Creme custard-y confection that is vegan – made with coconut milk rather than cow’s (or other animal’s) milk. Now, I’m not vegan, but I generally prefer my dairy products to be plant-sourced. After one taste of this delicious Pot de Creme – I was hooked!

One of my favorite flavors of these Pot de Creme confections is their lemon. The coconut is very subtle in the Pot de Creme, so it got me thinking, what if the coconut flavor was a little stronger here – and the lemon slightly muted? How delicious would that be?

So, I decided to get to work on a tea version of what I was eating, but with the modifications I just mentioned, slightly more coconut, a bit less lemon & this tea turned out just exactly as I hoped it would!

to brew: shake the pouch to redistribute the ingredients (very important!) use 3 ½ grams of leaf to 12oz of very hot water (190°F) & allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. enjoy!

serving suggestions: it’s been kind of cold lately, so I’ve only tried this tea hot (thus far!) but I am betting that it’s delicious cold-brewed too. There is a natural sweetness to this from the coconut & green rooibos, so I suggest trying this before you add any sweetener, I quite like it unsweetened. However, if you prefer a sweeter cup, a wee bit of raw sugar would go nicely (it would also

I taste such a bright, tasty lemon, along with a strong fresh coconut. I also taste the smooth green rooibos underneath. This makes such a refreshing cold cup of tea! I don’t think I taste anything custardy in particular, but I can’t emphasize enough how high quality and fresh this one tastes.

Sipdown! (96 | 193)

Last one from my 52teas haul! \o/

I enjoyed this one, it has a nice light and slightly creamy lemon flavor with a touch of pleasant herbaceousness from the lemony herbs. I don’t get a lot of coconut, it mostly adds a creamy element to the lemon. And I’m happy about that, as the coconut could’ve really taken over here if it had been stronger.

A yummy light-as-a-cloud lemony tisane that’s a perfect cuppa to end the night on. My one critique would be that it reminds me more of a lemon coconut marshmallow than a custard, as it doesn’t have that custardy richness. But delicious either way, he he. :)

Cold Brew!

This is my current cold brew and it’s hitting the spot tonight. I’ve felt sore most of the day and my throat was a little raw feeling – I thought it was just a combination of the florescent lights at the office giving me a headache today and kind of choking a bit on a roughly textured granola bar this morning that was putting me in a foul/icky mood but as we get later into the evening I think it’s something else.

Whatever the case may be, this tea is cooling and pleasant on my throat (because it’s literally cold – not from something like mint which would be cooling sensation wise) and it’s not too much flavour or too little. Definitely creamy coconut but also sweet lemon and refreshingly green and melon-y rooibos. All clicks together nicely!

(52teas (Anne) 2022: 270)

It looks like there was a previous version of this tea from a few years back, with both red and green rooibos, but it seems that it’s not one that I ever got to try, so I can’t compare. Doesn’t really matter; this version is pretty incredible, with bright, creamy lemon and a refreshing green rooibos base. No yucky red rooibos flavours, no pithy lemon bitterness. I’ve really been loving the series of lemony (and berry) herbal blends I’ve had recently!

Available on the website now… please buy it so I don’t buy more tea! Haha.

The lemon coconut rooibos from 2018 was a little different, the most obvious difference being the bases (that base had the red/green rooibos base and this one is just green rooibos – plus the combinaion of lemongrass, lemon myrtle & lemon thyme, while the previous tea only had lemon balm.) This one also has a bit of a smoother flavor to it with the custard-y notes. I definitely prefer this one, although that one was certainly tasty as well. I think this one, at least for me – was taking what the 2018 blend was and going one step further with it.

Well, this one is pretty darn delicious! I think the choice not to use red rooibos was a good one.
