AJRimmer Advent Day 16

I’m not generally a matcha fan, so I’ll admit I was a bit disappointed when I opened today’s advent packet and found this inside. But AJRimmer mentioned that she enjoys David’s Tea’s matcha made with milk, so I whipped out my milk frother and made myself a latte. What a lovely surprise! It was creamy vanilla with a touch of spice and a pleasant sweetness…none of the bitterness or grittiness I’ve experienced with some of the other matchas I’ve tried in the past. Maybe it’s time to give matcha another chance? So glad for the opportunity to sample this one!

I’m so glad you ended up liking it! I was never a matcha person until I started drinking the DavidsTea ones, and they have definitely converted me with all their fun flavors!

Inkling

Good to know! I may have to place a David’s order one of these days. :)

I really didn’t enjoy DT’s chai matcha, so I was a little worried when I opened my 2 oz bag of this one. Luckily, the flavor profile seems to go in a totally different direction. Whereas the other one was red hot cinnamon, this one is more difficult to describe. I taste mostly matcha with a bit of flavoring, but I really can’t tell what it’s supposed to be. Maybe it’s a bit cookie-ish? It’s not a favorite, but there’s nothing bad or too weird here either. The flavoring is quite mild.

Added this to an almond butter and banana smoothie today for a little kick. The vanilla was strong with this one, perhaps because of the matcha or because of the vanilla extract.

(DavidsTea 191)

Had this with milk; liked it. Nice mild chai flavour, lots of creaminess. I’d probably prefer a normal chai latte though.

Another new tea from this year’s Chai collection.

This’ll be a shorter tasting note than I usually write for new teas, but I do find this one pretty straight forward and also comparable to DT’s previous Chai Matcha. The big differences are that it’s a softer overall spice level with a distinct creamy/vanilla note to it. Think the difference between DT’s Earl Grey and Cream of Earl Grey matchas, and then just apply that to Chai. It’s obviously delicious and well suited to being made as a latte, as well!

Personally, I prefer the prior Chai Matcha but that’s mostly because it had a stronger and more distinct clove note and I like clove _ a lot._ I think I’m in the minority though, and this seems like it’s perhaps a little more approachable! But it’s pretty safe to assume that if you liked Chai Matcha you’ll like this one too.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
