Butiki had a Caramel Apple Oolong that I ADORED back in the day and every candy/caramel apple tea I ever try gets measured up against that one and found wanting. But I have to say, this one was an exceptionally odd take on the concept. Who puts cinnamon on a caramel apple? The flavor doesn’t even read apple pie, because the cinnamon is so assertive…more like a cup full of melted red hot candies (maybe that’s where the candy comes in?) with an apple slice or two hanging out in the background someplace. Not for me!

I wanted to buy a black tea, but also wanted a change from the Earl Grey flavours I usually go for. I was hesitant to order this because it seemed like an odd combination of ingredients, but it really works! With no added sweetener, it has just the right amount of sweetness for me, and none of the bitterness you sometimes get with black teas.

I actually preferred this one with some milk. The apple smelled really artificial and unpleasant, but it turned out pretty decent. I taste a sweet cinnamon along with the artificial, but good enough apple. The black tea doesn’t make much of an impression. To be honest, I think I would drink this one again, but not frequently.
I have not had a tea that I was so appalled by in ages. When I opened the bag I was hit by the smell of acetone. Strong acetone. It came through in the flavor of the tea as well. Now that I have that association with it I can’t taste past it or pay any attention to the other flavors. Cinnamon is present in the finish after the acetone dissipates.
David’s Tea has a lot of winners with me, this one is the opposite side of the scale.
This is definitely an interesting take on a candy apple. It’s more of a red hot apple. I guess some candy apples have cinnamon in the sugar coating? It’s also very much a green apple. So, if cinnamon covered green apples are your thing, you’ll probably love this tea.
This was a preportioned/overwrapped sachet and not the loose leaf version of the tea; I ended up taking some of this format home from the office a few weeks ago just because sometimes it is more convenient to have them around for moments of extreme laziness…
I definitely find the sachet less intense/aromatic than the LLT but, considering that the LLT is kind of a punch of flavour, that can be a good thing too. There’s the same sweet candy style red apple flavour though alongside that warming red hot cinnamon finish. So the flavours are all present, just not the whallop of sweet autumnal coziness that the LLT delivers. It’s just different portioning of tea leaf overall, is all…
If I actually measured the amount of tea I used and didn’t just eyeball it I’m sure I could produce a more gentle cup like this with the LLT too…
