This took looked quite promising so I took some home now that spearmint is forever gone (RIP). It is heavily spearminty, however I can’t taste any sage and I get vegetal notes from the green tea. I’ll keep drinking it, but I’m always going to be bitter about them discontinuing spearmint.

Another new tea!

This one isn’t part of the holiday collection, but it did quietly launch in select stores around the same time that the holiday teas came out and it’ll be added online too. I think this is a really interesting tea for a few reasons – but primarily because it isn’t what I think a lot of people view as a typical “DAVIDsTEA Style” tea, which is to say the visual is a little more toned down from a lot of the crazy eye catching things that DT likes to include and the flavour is also a bit more soft/subtle and nuanced. To me, this feels like a very “European” approach to a flavoured tea – pretty clean visual accented with some flowers, softer flavour notes and simple ingredients list. This would likely fit seamlessly into Dammann Freres/Palais Des Thes/etc. tea line ups…

However, another reason it’s interesting is that it was kind of developed as a “Call and Answer” to a lot of things that stores and customers were requesting – more spearmint, more green teas, more sage, more elegant blends, more things with lighter flavours, simpler ingredients lists, traditional flavours with a twist. So, it’s a lot of those ideas kind of in one – and in a way that actually feels really seamless. When people start to notice it in stores and it gets added online it’ll be really interesting to see the reception. I think that will probably dictate a fair amount if this different style/direction is something that gets further explored. I hope it does, because it feels like a lot of DT’s mellower/softer/nuanced blends have been retired in the last year or two in favour of the ones with more intense flavours but I think there’s definitely a group of people who want the style that this tea aligns more closely with…

As for flavour – despite the name being Sip of Sage (which is just adorable) I think the spearmint is clearly the main flavour profile, which is just supported by very soft elements of herbaceous sage and floral jasmine. It’s crisp and refreshing and a little bit sweet, but has that very smooth and relaxing vibe you would probably want/expect from a jasmine green tea or something with sage. Really clean tasting, and very no frills.

As most of y’all know I don’t enjoy green tea much and especially don’t love jasmine green teas but this is something that even I can get on board with in small doses, mostly because I have a deep love for spearmint. I have a small amount at home, and it’s already become a go to for me on days I want something relaxing and smooth to de-stress with.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
