Information:
Who doesn’t love Strawberry Shortcake? Fresh strawberries…pastry… icing sugar…fresh cream. In a word, scrumptious. The original recipe can be traced back to a 19th century American food writer named Eliza Leslie. Her shtick, (even back then all food writers and celebrity chefs had one) was to incorporate various elements of French cuisine into American cooking. Her recipe called for a special pastry crust that was a cross between traditional pastry and cookie dough, cut into rounds with mashed strawberries sandwiched between them, covered in icing sugar. Phew! The recipe spread like wildfire and spawned many variations. One that saw the addition of fresh whipped became the Strawberry Shortcake most of us are familiar with today. This tea has all the great flavors of the sweet creamy dessert with none of the calories, (read guilt free). Dessert in a teacup. Nothing could be finer.

Another tea from Jackie T :D

This tea smells and tastes very much like other strawberry teas I’ve had recently. Like Yaya Strawberry (is that a tea? I’m too tired to look it up. Although whatever I’m remembering was green). Also like… something something Strawberry… something. From Sil. By Majesteas. Ah – Leslie Grove Strawberry Patch! There’s hope for my memory yet (watch me get it wrong).

Anyhow, basically yes, the flavour here is familiar. It’s candy strawberry. But the big difference I’m finding here is that there is very little or no astringency. Woo! Of course, it got only 2 minutes of hot water, but if my memory serves (hmm…), LGSP had some serious astringency issues. So, this tea is superior in that sense. However, I don’t think that this is much like strawberry shortcake… perhaps the strawberries on the top of shortcake, but I’m not getting any cakey flavours. DavidsTea’s Strawberry Shortcake was better in that regard for me.

Thanks Jackie!

ETA: Yum! Tasty second infusion.

Liberteas thanks to you for this!
I tend to add a bit more loose leaf to the water – or the water to the loose leaf…than most as I enjoy a sturdy, dark, bold cuppa…this one seems a little bitter to me. I don’t think I will rate it yet and try less next time I try a cup.

Backlog: I really enjoyed this tea. I had a cup of it hot, and then brewed some for iced tea. Both preparations are delicious. Sweet strawberry, notes of cream and a slight pastry note which is more noticeable when it is cold.

Really, really good. Here is my full-length review: http://sororiteasisters.com/2012/06/02/strawberry-shortcake-tea-from-culinary-teas/

another sample from kittenna! this one i had better luck with. it smells a little like those strawberry shortcake dolls…slightly artificial but not bad smelling. the taste is more like a green strawberry tea and not so very “shortcake-y” However, in comparison to the last two disasters for me, this is loads better. Still though, the base has a bitterness to it that i really don’t care for. oh well, better to sample than have purchased :)

I just added a ton of teas to the swap post on the discussion boards. Now the next step is to try everything I’ve yet to try so I can probably add even more…joy.

This one however will not be going there. I know I have 11 billion strawberry shortcake type teas but this is so good. The black tea is really good, it’s a nice base for the flavors. This tastes just like strawberries and whipped cream, and there’s even a cake flavor. I haven’t added anything to this, and I probably won’t (because I’m lazy) but I bet it might make it even better.

This one is definitely better than the DavidsTea version. Of course I had that one cold and I’m having this one hot, but I’ll definitely make this as iced tea soon.

Thanks for sending me this tea, darby!

I decided to switch it up to drinking it cold since it cooled off a lot while I tried to figure out what on earth the government was doing to my FAFSA in conjunction with my idiotic school. Turns out most of my loans get to be federal ones since I’m “independent” so this is beyond pleasing because the private ones always have such horrible interest rates. Cold now it’s getting kind of a bitter aftertaste, and I’m not sure why since I went with the low end of the steeping time to begin with. But the strawberry now seems even sweeter. I’ll definitely try this one out cold brewed to see if that cuts that bitterness, along with maybe a 2 1/2 minute steep instead.

Quite good. The strawberry was excellent – not chemical or fake like a lot of strawberry can taste. I agree with the other tasting note that a little more cakey flavor would be nice but once I added some milk and a touch of sugar in the raw it really came out nicely. Very YUM and I was so in the mood for something decadent!

Sunday sample Sipdown #2

This was actually more delicious than I expected!! I had tried the sample once before and I remember it being fairly astringent and bitter. This time around I realized that it was just because the quality of the black tea base was pretty great. It is definitely strawberry, from the second you smell it to the linger of the sip. Not overpoweringly fruity but a really nice touch of sweetness.

I enjoyed this tea. I love anything strawberry, especially in the flavor of teas. I would of enjoyed more cakey/pastry flavoring. It has a touch of creaminess to it. I would buy this tea again. Enjoyed plain, but I could see milk in this.

I dig the way this has a sort of floral, perfume-y thing going on, not just straight up sweet strawberry. And there’s definitely a rich creamy-pastry thing going on in the aroma too; it’s less evident in the swallow, but the overall effect really is of good homemade shortcake with freshly whipped cream and sunpicked fresh berries, the small flowery-smelling sort, not the bland supermarket behemoths. Nice. I’m sure the slice of strawberry cake I happened to have on hand and enjoyed with this didn’t hurt either!

I really wanted to save this sample until we had a warm day so I could make iced tea, but I had 2 lbs of fresh strawberries calling my name this morning and just had to drink this with them. Since is was in the low 60s today it ended up being another hot tea day. I probably shouldn’t complain, but I really really wish we’d have some warmer weather. It is absolutely not supposed to be in the 50s-60s in the beginning of June. I’m a southern girl, we don’t like cold weather, and June is suppose to hover around the mid 90s so I can run through the sprinkler and goof off with the baby. So far this summer has not resembled summer at all, but the strawberry tea helped a little.

I was pretty impressed with this one since it was the first strawberry tea that I have come across that didn’t taste completely fake. I love that it had actual freeze dried strawberries in it as well as the natural flavoring, i’m sure that made all the difference in the flavor. I didn’t find this overly fruity, but it sure had a nice creaminess to it that reminded me of cake. I think that this would have reminded me more of a strawberry short cake if the floral flavors hadn’t taken over once the tea started to cool. This makes me excited to try some more teas from Culinary Teas.
