I saw this on the shelf at the store and thought why not. I had no idea of the positive outcome it would have for my husband and myself. My husband has had bone cancer since he was 24, yes 24 and he had had to rely on various medications to help him sleep. Well not anymore. He took one sip of MY tea and said “thanks”. I just made another cup. Every night since that first tasting my husband drinks the Sleepytime Vanilla tea to help him sleep solid sleep, instead of medications that would only give a couple of hours of sleep at a time. The body heals while you sleep and the wonderful blends of chamomile, lemon grass, vanilla, and other awesome flavors has changed my husbands life and mine. Thanks for the best tea I ever had thus far. We both swear by this tea as an awesome suppplement to sleep and we steep it by the pot.

I LOVE this tea! I just tried it for the first time and just steeped it for four minutes, added a teaspoon of honey and let it cool. It smells DELICIOUS, like soft vanilla (rather than harsh like vanilla extract) and I found once it had cooled a decent amount (about 10 minutes) I could taste all the flavors better.

Essentially, it just tastes like chamomile, but the hint of vanilla is there. It’s light, but not too light to where you can’t taste it. This is definitely a good tea to drink while curling up with a book, as someone said before. I’ll definitely be keeping it on hand from now on!

UPDATE: This makes really excellent hot toddies.

When Mom first brought this tea home, I thought “these flavour combinations can’t work.” Then I tried a mug, with a drizzle of honey. Oh, it works. (“It’s twue!”) It hasd a great smell, a lively colour and goes well with food or just by itself. A nice tea to drink while reading.

what is it about Celestial Seasonings chamomile?? in any of their teas containing chamomile (whether wholly or in part) i find it absolutely delicious! funny story, but i’ve never had chamomile except for in their teas, which i’ve been drinking for years. their Honey Vanilla version was so yummy i stuck with it & never looked back. although recently i had the opportunity to try Stash’s Chamomile which smelled quite yummy, very similar to Celestial Seasonings’ (sans mint & vanilla, of course).

but what is chamomile? it’s yummy and sweet, really. creamy even, if it were possible for herbs to have this quality. then again, upon visiting the spice alcove of a highly overpriced organic food store, i had the chance to smell ‘loose’ German chamomile, and it was quite stinky. dry, almost dirty, not sweet at all. what was going on? if that’s the real deal, then CS must doctor their chamomile tisanes highly, but i don’t care. i appreciate the comforting, flavorful experience, and yum is yum.

this particular chamomile, Sleepytime Vanilla, is a real treat. i think of it as a chamomile mint crème. i can’t help but think of their Honey Vanilla version, minus the honey, with a nice helping of spearmint. the mint figures prominently alongside the vanilla, but doesn’t overtake it. instead, you have a nice, delicate balance of both. a perfect prelude to sleep, that is after checking what’s app, facebook, twitter, youtube & instagram all on your iPhone. and listening to Anoushka Shankar’s ‘Pancham Se Gara’ on your iPod. twice.

have not tried the original Sleepytime or Sleepytime Peach, but as a curious nose sniffing about and a fan of the Celestial Seasonings graphic designer, i must try them.

unpredictably, i started with the Vanilla. yes, i must. have. vanilla. something about it in teas or coffees is so incredibly comforting to me, not to mention the fact that it takes on a number of different flavor nuances (real or fake), all under the guise ‘yummy’. well, at least for me. and i’m not even a really big dessert person- if you can picture the sort who readily bakes cupcakes, you’re not likely to find me in the kitchen. Cupcake tea, however, and you have my interest piqued. but this tasting note, much like my train of thought, is starting to wander…and just like that it’s time for bed!

At first I liked it,I always like the sweet 、delightful and lush vanilla and herbal teas like mint and chamomile ,but later I found out it’s just too much! The vanilla part is too strong and a little artificial ,making it too sweet 、too flattering like cheap love songs or artificial candies(?) .The herbs could have been very soothing ,but they didn’t fit in well with vanilla here, especially when the tea cooled down,I could feel the earthy dirtiness 、 filthiness or some unpleasant scents as if some food going bad soon. I may not want to drink this very much. But I think this could work well on me when they leave out the vanilla.

I keep drinking this at night and then forgetting to review it, so I’m backlogging a bit… I just moved to my own place and have started drinking tea at night again (not sure why I stopped, but I’ve been out of the habit for years, and I also generally hate herbal teas so it wasn’t a terrible loss overall). I realized that I barely had any non-caffeinated blends, so when I saw this at the store, I thought it would be a good candidate. I really don’t love the regular Sleepytime blend, so I was pretty skeptical about the vanilla version, but this is pretty awesome! The vanilla note hides the lemongrass and it’s a pretty pleasant blend. I don’t like to steep it too long or it gets a bit overpowering, but overall it’s a really nice before-bed cup of “tea”!

Still a very fake vanilla (which tastes even stranger laid over the real mint and chamomile) but it is soothing, and sometimes it’s nice to just toss a bag in a mug for bedtime.

Lovely floral note with a distinct note of vanilla.
Even better with a drizzle of honey.
The tea itself could be stronger though.

Just kind of bland. I’ve never had the original Sleepytime (I’m more of a Tension Tamer girl, myself), so I don’t know how this compares. The vanilla is very subtle; more of a creamy aftertaste than anything else.

This one is not one of mine, but I’m adding it here anyway as I end up making this quite often for my husband. It’s pretty much exactly like the regular Sleepytime tea, only with a touch of vanilla. My husband likes them both equally. Strong scent of spearmint and chamomille, with the vanilla overtones. Not my cup of tea, but for the herbal tea drinker it’s a decent choice.
