From Camellia Sinensis

Coconut and pineapple feature in this mellow and tropical fusion of fragrances.

The warm malty notes of the Indian black tea will enhance those sultry summer nights. Enjoy the fireworks!

Ingredients: black tea, grated coconut, pineapple chunks.

This tea is so hard to resist! The coconut is prominent, but not overpowering. You can still taste the malty black tea at the base. Sweet, juicy pineapple first, creamy coconut second, and a lingering note that tastes oddly like cookies. A new flavoured favourite of ours.

Ingredients: Indian black tea, grated coconut, pineapple chunks

Steep It

1 tsp/8 oz cup

This tea is so good. It’s one of my new favourites! The pineapple flavour is so great here, thanks to the big pineapple chunks in the blend. The coconut is lighter, and lends a lovely creaminess here, accenting the pineapple perfectly in the background. And the best part is the fruits paired with a black base. The base is full, yet not overpowering to the fruits. It all works so seamlessly! I will re-order the full size of this one to keep in my cupboard for sure.

Again, I love that this company just uses fruits and tea to blend their teas without any additional flavouring.

I don’t think I’ve had any teas from Camellia Sinensis yet. I’ll have to give them a try sometime. I definitely prefer it when companies only use fruit, spices and flowers to flavor their teas. I have quite a few weird allergies and intolerances and things so I try to avoid flavorings and colorings if their exact components aren’t listed.

Tiffany :)

I can’t say I’ve tried this brand before? I love coconut (and pineapple) so if a sample of this ended up my way I wouldn’t be sad. ;)

Courtney

DrowningMySorrows I also have some odd intolerances and the like and I’m generally quite careful about my teas as well. The companies that use these ingredients are so lovely. :)

We finally got back from a little road trip for a wedding 1168km (725mi) north of here. It’s nice to be reunited with tea (and so many other things). Not that I was completely without tea, because I brought this along!

It was disillusioning to see that this was practically the only one that fit the bill for travel life: doesn’t need milk, doesn’t need exact steeping perameters (temp, time, amount, etc.), can handle hard water and Styrofoam cups, and isn’t a loss if it doesn’t get resteeped. It was nice to become better acquainted with this one though; I was benevolent-indifferent before but I’ve warmed up to it.

Also, you can’t go wrong with pineapple or coconut in the summer. And bonus: the super devout relatives don’t ostracize you as much when you drink tea (poor dad and his beer)!

Love this one! Definitely have to agree with all your points for it, as well.

Evol Ving Ness

I like this one too. However, I prefer it when added to something with a punchier black base.

Crowkettle

I agree Evol. It was great for a road trip but sometimes it almost tasted like particularly nice herbal (where’s the black tea)? That’s not something I always want.

What do you usually mix it with?

Evol Ving Ness

I had been mixing it with 52Teas Pineapple Marshmallow which had the pineapple mostly missing in action. Worked out well. I have also mixed it with Mighty Leaf’s Brazillian Fruit which has a punchy black base. I think it would work with any type of black flavoured tea in which the flavouring is mild and fruity and possibly tropical. Maybe a coconut black if you have one handy.

Evol Ving Ness

Mighty Leaf tends to have really punchy black bases. Great for mixing with overly mellow teas.

This is one of the Black Friday teas I ordered through Amoda. The idea of this blend seemed intoxicating.

I butchered the beautiful bag in trying to open it: the instructions give a pull strip which takes you to ripping the pouch, but how to rip is unindicated, so I ended up with the plastic open/close zip strips on the same side. However, I may have proceeded correctly but had a faulty bag to begin with. I hate that. It forces one to run around hunting up an extra tin. Who has an empty tin at this time of year?

Anyway, the smell of the dry leaf is intoxicating too. Quite divine really. The leaf contains plentiful coconut bits and fat pineapple shreds. Pretty blend.

The taste is lovely, but a bit less lovely than one would imagine it would be. To me, the melding of flavours is less smooth than I would like. I don’t quite know how to explain it. It is as if each sip contains disconnected flavours: pineapple, coconut, and tea. Each flavour comes through clearly on its own. There is also the slightest bit of imitation flavour coming through at the end of the sip. Not so much as to tamper with the overall experience, but still.

Perhaps the second steeping will give up a smoother experience.

On the second steeping, the coconut creaminess and flavour come through far more prominently while the pineapple steps into the background. A far milder but still enjoyable cup. The imitation flavour disappears completely.

I may add the slightest bit of Lapsang Souchong to a cup at some point to see how it works with a bit of smoke.

I nearly screwed up opening one of those bags too. Such an odd design to get used to, I think.

Hmm, maybe it’s good I didn’t grab this one. Almost did. Adding LS is such a unique idea. Not a fan of the stuff but I’d imagine that smokiness would pair perfectly with the pineapple.

Evol Ving Ness

Do tell how you managed to not screw up because I have another bag or two from Amoda which I have yet to open and I would be so sad to have to run around to find more tins or more elastics or contraptions to keep the tea from losing all its flavour immediately.

It is a nice tea. I’ve only had it for the first time today. The flavours of the pineapple and the coconut are bright and vivid. I thought that the hint of LS might mellow things out a bit. Not that there’s anything wrong with bright and vivid. Maybe it was out of step with the black tea? I really enjoyed David’sTeas Grilled Pineapple Genmaicha with that toasty ricey thing going on, so perhaps that was what I was attempting to conjure up with the LS. I will report back once I have had another cup or two and/or begun experimenting. I hope I haven’t preventing you from trying this tea. It is a nice one.

Fjellrev

I have a couple more to open, and will probably try one a little later so I’ll let you know. From what I remember, I carefully lifted the tab up entirely before proceeding to start tugging at it, if that makes sense.

That does sound worthwhile trying. And thanks for reminding me that I still need to try Grilled Pineapple. Completely forgot that even existed.

Evol Ving Ness

Thank you. I will give it a go. And if it fails again, maybe I will send Teagan a note and report back.

Yes, do try it if it is still around. I really enjoy that one.

Evol Ving Ness

Yes, it is still around. I just checked. A heavy one and a bit expensive for a genmaicha/rooibos. I think I might choose this one as one of my upcoming free teas. https://www.davidstea.com/ca_en/our-teas/grilled-pineapple

Fjellrev

Ok, just opened my last one, and definitely just do it very slowly and carefully. I know that isn’t much of a help but no tins are needed!

How sweet would you say Grilled Pineapple is?

Evol Ving Ness

Did you have to rip the bag? Or just pull the tab?

I’ve had several cups of Grilled Pineapple, but it has been a while. It is not overly sweet. That is to say that it is not a particularly sweet tea when compared to some of DT’s dessert teas etc. The pineapple comes through with more of a pineapple tang than sugar sweet in my recollection. The sweetness that is there gets toned down by the rooibos and toasted rice, so there is that groundedness to it.

Evol Ving Ness

I just took a look at the ratings. The average is 65 while I gave it a 90, hoisting up my initial 81.

Fjellrev

You just have to pull the tab to the right and it’ll make an incision just above the ziplock part.

Cool, I’ll definitely pick some up next time I go.

Evol Ving Ness

Thanks. Maybe that is where I went wrong.

I just found out Zen Tea is having a sale now—last day. 30% off. Code is thanks. Where shall I post this so that people will see it in case they are interested?

Fjellrev

If there isn’t a thread in the discussion forum, maybe there? I wish they had their Chocolate Mint rooibos in stock. SO GOOD. And they got rid of two of my favourites, so nothing for me. What are you interested in?

Evol Ving Ness

The deed is done. Nice discount. Reasonable shipping. And in Canadian currency. So, yay!

Evol Ving Ness

I have been reading up on comments and making my own list of wants when I get ready to order. I reduced all the 100 gr ones except for the coconut one. And no, I haven’t tried any of them before other than the Milk Oolong. I have tried a few of Zen Tea’s herbals and have been quite happy with them, especially when pitted against the overly artificial ones DT produces. I need uncaffeinnated options (but perhaps I don’t need them immediately).

Evol Ving Ness

I see myself justifying the purchase of more tea. Hard.

sample from evol ving ness thanks for letting me revisit this one. I think i liked it a little better today – something about the coconut today just hit the spot. it’s still not a tea that i need to keep in my cupboard, as i’m always afraid of the coconut going rancid while it’s in the cupboard. But this is a nice one to have from time to time.

Evol Ving Ness

Agreed. I enjoy this one from time to time. It is a good tea to share with others as it is not something I need to have every day. So glad that some of these are bringing you tea joy, Sil.

It’s been a lazy Sunday after what was a fun and family-filled Saturday afternoon. I love having my family close, all of us coming together to meet in the center and be whole again. We sat around the table with big steaming bowls of spaghetti and meatballs in front of us, slurping noodles and telling stories we’ve each heard a thousand times but that never get old. My family brings me back to myself and I always feel a little homesick when they leave. It takes some time for me to adjust to the quiet again. That being said, I’m also a pretty classic introvert so I relish the quiet after such a full day.

My husband made several types of tea for everyone yesterday, but every time I went to pour myself a cup I became distracted by something and never quite made it to the tea pot. Today I meant to be deliberate and pour a cup of tea for myself to enjoy in leisure. I’m very close to finishing my task of tasting each of the teas in my cabinet and one sip of this puts me just a little closer to the finish line.

The aroma of the dry tea is mostly pineapple, but I also smell the creamy coconut. My husband said right away that it smells like the beach so I knew I would love it. This tea is lighter in color than I expected but it’s definitely not lacking in flavor. It isn’t bold, but the tea is the prominent flavor with the fruit acting as more of an accent.

This tea was a very generous gift from Amoda with my first monthly box. Thank you, Tegan, for sharing!

Last Camellia Sinensis sample! Thanks again to Roswell Strange for sending these my way. This one… I’m hesitant to try. It has a lot of coconut shreds in it, and I can already smell the soapiness even through the bag. Oh well, I will try it anyway! This tea is a mixture of small black tea leaves, coconut shreds, and some kind of dehydrated fruit chunks that I’m going to assume are pineapple. Dry scent is pretty much just coconut and soap.

The steeped tea also has a coconut/soap aroma. Honestly, the taste isn’t terrible, but there is a noticeable soap flavor that makes this hard for me to drink. Other than that, it’s a nice, creamy, mildly flavored coconut black tea with some pineapple in it. I’d imagine this one is quite tasty without the older coconut in it. Withholding rating.

Roswell Strange sent me a bit of this in trade and I have to say that it is pretty amazing. There’s a bit of a bite to the end of the sip that I can’t quite track down the reason for but the tropical feeling of coconut and pineapple are very delicious together. I added milk and sugar because I do that for black tea and it’s become a sweet dessert.

So as a staples employee, working tonight was like working on Christmas, as in it aways crazy busy. When I finally got home, I decided to make a cup of tea and before even deciding what to make, I set it to boil because I knew I felt like having black tea. Anyways, as the kettle heated, I noticed a package on the table from my awesome tea twin and inside was this tea. Immediately, I made my decision and oh what a right decision it turned out to be.

The scent of this brewed cup is sort of buttery but the taste is coconutty pineapple deliciousness. It’s creamy and sweet from the coconut with an amazing pineapple tang to curb the sweetness from becoming cloying. It is really hitting the spot as many Camellia Sinensis teas tend to do so thank you Roswell Strange for this awesome midnight treat!

If your a pineapple and coconut fan do yourself a favor and get yourself some of this tea quick! The bag is full of shredded coconut, pieces of dried pineapple and black tea, in fact, there seems to be more of the first two ingredients in my bag than the last! A brewed cup screams of mouthwatering pineapple and creamy coconut and is simply delicious with a splash of milk. Hope the rest of my Camillia Sinensis tea haul live up to the high standard that this tea has set!

Guess what! This is officially my last note in my queue! I am now all caught up again!

I’m actually currently drinking this. Well, the last of it really. I brought a mug to take on the walk to work, and since starting this morning I’ve just been saving the last little bit of it and taking very small baby sips. It’s so good, and really tying me over while I wait to get off. Only half an hour to go!

The top note here is very fresh, tropical pineapple (4433). A little bit sweet and a little bit juicy. Then there’s this very buttery bottom note of coconut (4261) that really anchors every thing and gives more depth to the tea. The combination of these two glorious flavours, somehow, also makes a toffee/brown sugar flavour that very nearly (with the buttery coconut) adds a confectionery element. And then just the most perfect, smooth black base.

My favourite pineapple/coconut, no questions about it.

tantonino

What are the 4 digit numbers for? How do they link to each flavor?

Roswell Strange

Oh, they’re the produce codes for each fruit/vegetable! I have to memorize them for work so I’ve bee plunking them into tasting notes to help :)

The Cookie Lady

I was wondering about that, too! Yay for tasting notes that can do double duty :)
