I haven’t quite got the hang of steeping this one yet. How did you make yours?

istara

I only had the two bags from the Advent Calendar, I wish I had bought more of it! I drink most teas with milk so I brewed it reasonably strong. I’ve found out recently that many teas with fruit etc in need a longer steep (probably obvious to others but not to me!) If I wasn’t using milk, I would have added honey, which I find enhances flavours quite well.

Shae

I drink mine with milk and honey so I usually brew mine a bit stronger too, but this one tends to come out bitter for me. :/

tea-sipper

Shae, this is that rare tea on the list of ‘one teaspoon max’ for me.

Shae

I think I remember we talked about this one before! I need to go back and check my notes. To be honest, I’ve been a tiny bit afraid of this one so it’s been a while since I’ve had it.

I enjoyed the the teabag version of Mince Pie in Bird & Blend’s advent calendar last year, so I figured I’d give the loose-leaf version a shot when I saw it in the TTB. I brewed it up and had it ready to go in my KeepCup to enjoy while running errands, and then… completely forgot about it until I returned home. Oops!

I’m drinking it cool now and it’s still tasty. I’m getting gently spiced marzipan. Yep, this is pretty much how I remember it from last December, although the pastry notes are missing. Still, not bad. I’ll keep my rating the same. :)

Flavors: Almond, Drying, Marzipan, Spices

The KeepCup is so cute!

#tiffanys2021sipdown Tea #99 overall / Tea #15 for March

Friday 3/12 (WRITTEN 3/15/21) — Bird and Blend Mince Pie So this tea was a loser in a Round 1 battle (vs. Bird and Blend Maple Bacon Pancake circa 2017?) on the Cozy Lattes side of the bracket. I am not the biggest black tea fan so I’m glad to sip this pouch down it’s not a bad tea at all (I don’t have any strong feelings of like or dislike) just not a tea for me. I was happy to finish it thinking it was gone from my collection but found another sealed pouch of this and Tori on IG is accidentally sending me some in the collection of teas from her stash she has coming my way so I’m going to have to gift this or figure out something to do to get this tea out of my collections. Hmm, maybe it will go into my “black tea for homemade kombucha pile”??

I’m sure I must have oversteeped this one because it came out bitter. I do enjoy the almond, though I don’t taste the fruit or spices. I’m not sure which is supposed to be the more prominent flavor since I’ve never had mince pie. I’ll hold my rating since I messed this one up.

Flavors: Almond

Preparation

tea-sipper

Yeah, I usually use more than one teaspoon for a mug with most black teas, but definitely NOT for this one. A flat teaspoon is enough.

Shae

Ahhh, I was thinking I steeped too long. I will try one teaspoon next time for sure. Thank you!

tea-sipper

Well, a shorter steep time might help with this one too. :D

Shae

Haha, sounds like I really overdid it on this one. No wonder it tasted so bitter!

Discovery Advent Tea #10
Looked like goji berries but wasn’t. This was decent at first but I didn’t like the aftertaste it left in my mouth…

AJRimmer Advent Day 23

I have no idea what mince pie is, but like AJR (I hope your ice cream turned out well), I am also a fan of dessert teas. I hear mince and I think of mince meat. Or is it minced meat? Either way, I’m glad there is a desserty meat free version. I steeped this cup, walked away from it for family zoom yoga that my cousin leads and when I came back my cup was cold. My cousin’s family class runs long. I microwaved my cup to bring it back up to temp, but it seems different than when it was freshly steeped. I don’t know if it is all in my head or a real phenomenon of teas and microwaves. It tasted dull, so I added a touch of sugar. It smells almondy with cinnamon. There is a slight bitter taste in the sip, but it’s not prominent. I feel like there is a dried fruit aspect to this. Too late to tell now, because I finished my cup! Now I’m curious what a mince pie tastes like.

Cameron B.

Mince pie is just a pie with mincemeat, very common in the UK. And mincemeat doesn’t generally have meat these days, it’s just apple, dried fruit, and spices. Some recipes do call for lard or suet though.

Courtney

Mince meat tarts or pie is one of my favourites. I grew up eating this all the time. :)

Mastress Alita

I’d love to try one.

Dustin

I had no idea what suet was until looking up mince pie recipes!

Cameron B.

Yeah, it’s not really a thing here in the States. I mostly know about it from British Bake Off… XD

Adventaggedon Day 10 – Tea 3/6

This is one of those teas that sort of weirds me out on paper but that I also see and am immediately filled with the carnal desire to experience it for myself…

I’ve actually not had Mince Pie in, probably, a decade – the one that’s fruit, nuts and spices and not the traditional one that was made with meat. So, I’m nut sure that I can speak strongly to the accuracy of the flavour, but I did really enjoy the taste of this one. It was a sweet almond/nutty flavour with warming cinnamon and pops of orange. Kind of medium bodied/intensity and oddly familiar and comforting.

Not a favourite, but a cool experience/concept!

B&B Advent 2021 Day 17

I had this one and didn’t overly enjoy it. However, Lex missed this day because she has to have black tea first thing in the morning, so the teabag sat in the cupboard (outside the calendar) for three days. When we steeped hers, the flavours I recall loving from last year were all there! A delicious pastry flavour, mixed with hints of almond and minced fruits – delicious!

My first Xmas tea of this year´s unusual month of December. I had been busy making an advent calender for my husband (as this year we´re spending the whole month together and most likely in one single place), and I prepared this tea for the “reception” after the “opening” of Day1 ;-)
We´ll miss the typical Xmas dinner, the real Xmas pudding and mince pies, so I was very curious to try the Mince Pie tea. The creators of the blend surely made a huge effort in creating a tea managing to get near the mince pie aroma´s and taste, which one can appreciate in a Xmas blend. Not bad at all, and rightly so, because I have a 20g pouch.

TeaTiff TTB #5

Apparently I had tried this tea before, but I didn’t remember that when I grabbed it out of the box to try at work yesterday. To be honest, I was drinking this in a meeting and thinking about other things, so I didn’t pay super close attention. But I remember it being a pleasant nutty, spicy brew this time around with notes of cinnamon and almond. Raising my rating a bit.
