Was hoping this would cut my afternoon candy craving. Not so much…like many chocolate teas (disclaimer: this is a year-old sample) it comes across as artificially boozy. Doctored with the contents of a honey straw, it’s drinkable and the mug is keeping my hands warm, which was my secondary MO for steeping this cup.

Sample from the last TTB. The black tea and chocolate flavors mix pretty evenly, though the quality of both is pretty low, so it’s not super great. With milk, it’s pleasant enough, but it’s more of a chocolate liqueur vibe than I prefer.

Much more the chocolate comes thru than the Truffle, but there is something else, slight, in there. Comes out fairly dark, rich brown color. I’d call it chocolate tea with a twist, if you’re a chocolate tea fan and want something a bit different. But not one that jumps out as exceptional.

Well, this is surprising. There is no dairy. It smells of chocolate in the dry leaves. The hot aroma is of milk chocolate bunnies. But not that expensive kind. The generic ones. The flavor is decent. Somewhat woodsy with chocolate notes. I think they would have been better off using an unsmoked lapsang or a Northern china Congou for this base.

Very very bitter tasting. It’s a bit too over powering and I can’t taste anything else in it.

Edit: After trying it again, the bitter taste is gone, however I tasted neither chocolate nor truffle in it and will not be making it a permanent tea

Trying to taste more of the teas that are unopened in my cabinet, to determine whether I should keep, toss or share. So I guess I am going through my cabinet alphabetically by company for the first tea of the day now. :)

Preparation: Western and then with a little barista Oatly (which is essentially whole fat oatly in a smaller container)
Tasting note: The dry leaf smelt of hershey’s chocolate syrup, so I definitely decided at that point this was going to be an unsweetened latte. Brewed up straight it was pretty brisk with some chocolate syrup notes and sweetness. I pretty much immediately after that sip added the oatly. After that, it tasted kind of like chocolate milk. I liked it less I think than Adagio’s Irish stout because it didn’t have that malty, richness to make it even more chocolatey. Also, Irish stout has sprinkles so yeah… it’s cute and gimmicky. I would say that this is a pretty decent chocolate black tea but not my favorite from Adagio.

This will go in the share pile as I know that I still quite a bit of Irish stout left from St. Patrick’s Day and they are in the same family as taste goes.

I normally enjoy chocolate teas, but this one tasted pretty bland to me. It had a pretty rich, heavy taste, and I got slight notes of bitter chocolate, but other than that the flavor was pretty flat and boring.

Adagio Advent Calendar – Day 16

Hmm, chocolate teas never seem to do well with me, so I wasn’t terribly excited to see this one. But it has chocolate chips and cacao nibs, which should help bolster the chocolate flavoring, plus there’s chicory which is interesting.

It smells nice, but the taste is somewhat bland for me. I can taste the base, and it’s fairly woody with some earthy character. I do get a very dark, bittersweet chocolate note. There’s a slight bitterness from the base as well, which is making the chocolate seem less sweet.

It’s fine, but nothing to write home about. At least it’s not over-the-top artificial tasting?
