Mmm, what a tea and the name fits perfectly.
It’s basically a cinnamon-encrusted, roasted-to-the-point-of-caramelization sweet ‘tater. The autumnal flavor bursts out of the Ceylon richness, so you end up with a mug full of exactly what the tea promises in its description. Haul this one out along with the extra blankets and thick, woolly sweaters when the leaves start to fall. That way, you’ll have it in time for Thanksgiving and keep it around until March, to get a dose of warm harvest-y/holiday cheer from the beginning of winter to the very end.
Like the rest of Adagio’s Ceylons, comes with a huge caffeine kick comparable to coffee.

I was excited to try this tea because I love sweet potato pie but I’ll have to say that the hint of the pie was really light. As far as the taste it wasn’t bad but it did have a bitter somewhat funky after taste that I didn’t like but fortunately it doesn’t linger which may be the reason I’ll try it again. That along with the fact I did like it with a piece of chocolate cake that I ate with it. I know there are those who like that bitter bite that some teas offer and if you do I say definitely go for it.
What smells of sweet potato pie may not taste like sweet potato pie. In fact, all I taste is black tea. I bet it would taste great with a sweet potato dish. For a plain tasting black tea it’s pretty good but it just doesn’t live up to it’s name so it’s a bit disappointing. I’ll try it again at some point and see if it changes flavor.
Out of sheer curiosity I’ve added some honey and while it obviously sweetens it, I really don’t feel like it does anything to bring out any other flavors.
This was a tough one. I wanted to like it. My whole family is southern, so I eat sweet potatoes (and grits and greens) like the rest of the country eats white bread. But I just didn’t care for it. It smells great, but the taste is off. Through the course of the cup, I would dislike it, take a sip, decide maybe I liked it, take a sip, decide I was wrong…repeat. It needs something, not sure what. Also, is this the only item on earth made with artificial sweet potato flavor?
I tend to go with the other comments about this tea. It’s good tea, but it doesn’t taste anything like sweet potato pie, or even sweet potato for that matter to me. It’s perfectly drinkable as a nice black tea, but it tastes just like that – plain. I drink my tea black with only a few rare exceptions, and that was how I brewed this tea. Taste/sweet potato flavor may improve with milk/sugar. I’ll give it another try prepared a different way and see if the sweet potato flavor comes out stronger.
A good tea, if you’re wanting a nice black to have anytime. Morning or evening tea.
