Citron Green

erm actually… when this cooled I didn’t like it much either. There was only a bit left at the end that was warm-ish and it lost the lemon note! then the second steep was just a plain fruity tea. Oh well, good to know it’s great when hot!! :)

Pretty much all of the green teas I’ve liked either have vegetal notes in them, or grassy notes. Do you mind grassy teas?

Have you tried a Dragonwell (Lung Ching)? I’d say that’s probably my favorite type of green tea – lightly roated with a delicate, nutty flavour. Although if the sample of Gyokuro I tried recently is any indication, it might have competition soon! :D

OMG! Citron Green! /squeals/ I love this stuff! I normally don’t like flavored green teas, but this tea rocks my socks. But, I’ve been out of CG for about six months now and I don’t really need to make an Adagio order at the moment. :(

As for recommendations. I agree with Jillian in that Dragon Well is a good one to try because of the nutty/buttery notes that it holds.

I don’t mind grassy, though I don’t love it. My love of genmaicha has taught me that I prefer green teas that do have a nutty or buttery undertone, so Dragonwell sounds like a good suggestion. I’d love to try a Gyokuro, but they’re so expensive!

Kukicha has really buttery notes for me, so you might want to check that one out. Also, some of Rishi’s greens, like Green Needles Roasted or Ancient Emerald Lily might be worth a shot.

I’m not much of a green tea drinker either (most of the greens in my cupboard are actually my husband’s), but I’m pretty fond of Lupicia’s flavored greens – their apple and grapefruit are pretty good. Not terribly veggy and not artificial fruit tasting, just good. :-)

Actually… I’m looking through my cupboard and I believe I have a tin of Teavana’s Gyokuro Imperial that isn’t being consumed, if you want to try some. It’s about a year old IIRC, so not terribly fresh (it’s in a double lidded canister, so should be alright).

I’m a fan of the Spring Cherry Green and Orange Blossom 100% White Tea, both from Republic of Tea (well, ok, I’m a fan of a lot of their flavors). They are light enough flavors so they don’t overpower the tea and make lovely cups and wonderful scents. I’d recommend those if you’re not sure about Green or White Teas. I appreciate that they tell you in the description of each tea, whether the tea can be re-steeped or is only good for one cup. I use that to gauge if I’ll be able to dial back on any of the stronger flavored teas.

I’m not sure if this will be your cup of tea or not, but if you want more of a punch from the citron you can try 4.5tsp in 6oz of 160 degree water for 1.5min. I always enjoy reading 1st loose experiences! Happy experimenting!=D

Yeah a more citrus-y flavor would be awesome! I’ll try that next time. =)

Adagio was my intro as well- they’ll have you hooked w/ the frequent cup points:) Which can actually be a bad thing cuz I didn’t explore other companies til… well… steepster:)

Haha. Well I think I’m going to stick with them for a little while until I get some more experience and experimentation with loose leaves. But I’m definitely interested in branching out to other companies as well.

I always thought it tasted like Fruity Pebbles myself which, since I can eat a box of that in a day if I don’t control myself, you’d think I’d be all in favor off. But nope, apparently I can only do that taste with unnaturally colored breakfast foods. Though I do believe I’m in the minority on that one.

I have a couple of the 8oz Bodums. LOVE THEM. I did have to get used to drinking black tea in them, though. The outside would stay so cool that I’d think the tea had cooled and yeah, not so much. But that’s more my own personal stupidity instead of any fault of the glasses so I luf them.

I also love my Bodum. Best part for me is being able to stare deep into my tea and enjoy the color. The yellow teas cause the rim to shimmer like gold. It is calming.

@augzimm Unnatural coloring is a criteria that I use for a number of excuses…of which I will not get into. All kidding aside, if the taste on this tea were any stronger I would probably not enjoy it; it’s the fact that it’s only a light overtone that makes it good for me. I also can’t see me drinking this often, but sometimes I crave a light, bright flavor from my tea and this is definitely going to be my right hand man.

@bothofy’all I haven’t been impressed with Bodum’s products in the past, but their drinkware is the shizz. I prefer drinking out of clear mugs mugs or mugs with a bright white interior so that I can enjoy the color of my tea. Bodum allows me to do that, PLUS it looks cool, PLUS it insulates! I want to buy sets and use them for EVERYTHING. [Though I do see myself needing to be careful about not burning my tongue, @aug3zimm. I already do that enough as is.]

I was looking at that the other day, and if I’m being honest will likely end up snatching one up. The thing I love about steep.it is the convenience of it, though. I can use it anywhere since I’m almost always near a computer.

I’m going to have to check this out. If you like citrus, you should check out the Blood Orange Herbal from Adagio. It’s crazy. It tastes exactly like a white tea with a healthy helping of lemon.

This leads me to believe that it is indeed old and not just substandard- at least I hope that’s the case, being old can be remedied! Question… Where do you buy Jack’s Royale Jamaican Rum Tea? I’ve been looking for a rum tea since Adagio discontinued their’s.
