From Adagio Teas

Citron Green tea combines green tea from China with delicate flavors of lemon and lime. The clean vegetal notes of the green tea blend seamlessly with the citrus crispness. Delightfully sweet, lifted by the freshness of the lemon-lime. Not too dry or too citrusy. Citrus Green is an Adagio customer favorite, perfect hot or iced.

Ingredients: green tea, orange, marigold flowers, natural lemon flavor & natural orange flavor

I upped my rating on this one, after trying the bagged variety and letting it steep for the length of the cup. (I also sampled this after the H bomb of David’s Tea’s Paradise Found, and nothing could be that tart!) This is decent, a nice everyday tea. It’s nothing special, nothing unique, but it has a smooth citrus-y flavor and is pleasant enough. It just doesn’t WOW me.

Pretty sure this one came from Azzrian… thanks so much for the sample!!
And wow it was not what I expected. Very tart for a green tea but not in a hibby way, definitely a lemon sort of tart, especially in the aftertaste. and yet it’s sweet, like a green tea should be! The “tea” isn’t hidden at all. Despite that, I’m not sure how to rate it. The taste is pleasant… I just haven’t decided how much so!
Will update later. Thanks again Azzrian!

Azzrian

Thanks! I don’t think I personally cared for this one.

Indigobloom

erm actually… when this cooled I didn’t like it much either. There was only a bit left at the end that was warm-ish and it lost the lemon note! then the second steep was just a plain fruity tea. Oh well, good to know it’s great when hot!! :)

Thought I finished my sample of this awhile ago, but I found a bag in my desk. This seriously does smell like Froot Loops, and if you don’t know the smell of Froot Loops well enough to identify it as such, I feel bad for you. You must’ve had a sad childhood.

Anyway, the taste is a LOT lighter. This tastes more like a basic green with a teensy weensy touch of citrus. But it’s good.

In other, related news, I’m really trying to drink more green tea. The only green tea I genuinely love is genmaicha. I don’t like veggies, so I think that’s why I dislike most green teas. Any recommendations?

takgoti

Pretty much all of the green teas I’ve liked either have vegetal notes in them, or grassy notes. Do you mind grassy teas?

Jillian

Have you tried a Dragonwell (Lung Ching)? I’d say that’s probably my favorite type of green tea – lightly roated with a delicate, nutty flavour. Although if the sample of Gyokuro I tried recently is any indication, it might have competition soon! :D

IdentiTEA

OMG! Citron Green! /squeals/ I love this stuff! I normally don’t like flavored green teas, but this tea rocks my socks. But, I’ve been out of CG for about six months now and I don’t really need to make an Adagio order at the moment. :(

As for recommendations. I agree with Jillian in that Dragon Well is a good one to try because of the nutty/buttery notes that it holds.

Bethany

I don’t mind grassy, though I don’t love it. My love of genmaicha has taught me that I prefer green teas that do have a nutty or buttery undertone, so Dragonwell sounds like a good suggestion. I’d love to try a Gyokuro, but they’re so expensive!

takgoti

Kukicha has really buttery notes for me, so you might want to check that one out. Also, some of Rishi’s greens, like Green Needles Roasted or Ancient Emerald Lily might be worth a shot.

denisend

I’m not much of a green tea drinker either (most of the greens in my cupboard are actually my husband’s), but I’m pretty fond of Lupicia’s flavored greens – their apple and grapefruit are pretty good. Not terribly veggy and not artificial fruit tasting, just good. :-)

denisend

Actually… I’m looking through my cupboard and I believe I have a tin of Teavana’s Gyokuro Imperial that isn’t being consumed, if you want to try some. It’s about a year old IIRC, so not terribly fresh (it’s in a double lidded canister, so should be alright).

JustDuckyInNE

I’m a fan of the Spring Cherry Green and Orange Blossom 100% White Tea, both from Republic of Tea (well, ok, I’m a fan of a lot of their flavors). They are light enough flavors so they don’t overpower the tea and make lovely cups and wonderful scents. I’d recommend those if you’re not sure about Green or White Teas. I appreciate that they tell you in the description of each tea, whether the tea can be re-steeped or is only good for one cup. I use that to gauge if I’ll be able to dial back on any of the stronger flavored teas.

Such a long exhausting day. This whole week has been a blur. Seriously. You know, the days when you look at the clock and realize it’s 11:30 at night. Where did the day go?! I’m.. ready for spring break. 10 more days..

This tea. I don’t know. I’ve been drinking a lot more of it recently. There’s something about it. I don’t enjoy it too much while I’m drinking it but then after wards I always want to make another cup. What’s the deal Adagio? Do you line your teas with herion? Such a .. strange addiction. I’m excited to get my order of Gunpowder along with a few other samples tomorrow.. and my treats from 52teas should be arriving any day now. I love getting packages.

I think that this is the same as the Citrus Green that is found as part of the Sweet Melody collection from Adagio. Anyway… that’s what I’m reviewing now.

The flavor is very light and pleasantly sweet. The citrus notes are surprisingly mellow as I would normally expect a more vibrant, bright citrus-y note, but, this is more smooth and serene. I don’t know that I prefer one over the other, even though I would have expected a sunnier citrus flavor I am liking this just fine.

It’s nothing outstanding or remarkable, but, it is pleasant to sip.

So this is my first taste of loose leaf tea. I let the boiled water sit for about 3 minutes to attempt to reach the 180 degree temp, and then steeped for about 3 minutes as well. Don’t know if I hit the right temperature, but thats what it’s all about, experimentation. The aroma of the dry leaves doesn’t really match the aroma of the tea in my opinion. But the taste is really nice. It’s very basic with a mild hint of the citrus flavor. It leaves a sweet aftertaste on the palette. Great introduction into loose leaf teas!

I’m not sure if this will be your cup of tea or not, but if you want more of a punch from the citron you can try 4.5tsp in 6oz of 160 degree water for 1.5min. I always enjoy reading 1st loose experiences! Happy experimenting!=D

ZFriedenreich

Yeah a more citrus-y flavor would be awesome! I’ll try that next time. =)

spohkh

way to delve into loose leaf!

Cofftea

Adagio was my intro as well- they’ll have you hooked w/ the frequent cup points:) Which can actually be a bad thing cuz I didn’t explore other companies til… well… steepster:)

ZFriedenreich

Haha. Well I think I’m going to stick with them for a little while until I get some more experience and experimentation with loose leaves. But I’m definitely interested in branching out to other companies as well.

This is probably the first of Adagio’s teas that I can see myself re-ordering. After reading what other people have written, I was hesitant to try it because it sounded like it was going to be cloying and blech.

When I popped the lid off the smell punched me in the face. Not enough to draw blood, but enough to make me jerk my head back. Not to be deterred, I measured some out and poured the water over it. It’s at times like these that I am so, so glad that http://steep.it exists because it greatly reduces the chances of me oversteeping anything anymore.

One, I think that the color of this tea is gorgeous. It’s like a very, very pale shade of chartreuse. This may have been improved by the fact that I just got a new mug from Crate & Barrel and I LOVE IT [http://twitpic.com/k481j]. It really does work, too! Keeps the tea hot a good deal longer than my other ones do and I can pick it up without fear of burning myself. AND it’s so very pretty. Feed the birds, Bodum.

The tea itself was surprisingly lovely. I put in about a teaspoon for 8 oz. of water and steeped it for 2 minutes 45. This could probably go to 3 minutes, but I was very afraid of oversteeping it. The flavor was light, and the citrus taste subtle. I get a lemon scent from it, but the taste is more reminiscent of lime.

A lot of people have compared this to froot loops, but I never really ate a lot of froot loops so I can’t confirm or deny on that account. All in all, I found it extremely refreshing. I should also mention that I’m a huge fan of citrus, so if you don’t like it…PBBBBBTHHHT. I’m kidding, but you should obviously avoid this one.

Auggy

I always thought it tasted like Fruity Pebbles myself which, since I can eat a box of that in a day if I don’t control myself, you’d think I’d be all in favor off. But nope, apparently I can only do that taste with unnaturally colored breakfast foods. Though I do believe I’m in the minority on that one.

I have a couple of the 8oz Bodums. LOVE THEM. I did have to get used to drinking black tea in them, though. The outside would stay so cool that I’d think the tea had cooled and yeah, not so much. But that’s more my own personal stupidity instead of any fault of the glasses so I luf them.

Carolyn

I also love my Bodum. Best part for me is being able to stare deep into my tea and enjoy the color. The yellow teas cause the rim to shimmer like gold. It is calming.

takgoti

@augzimm Unnatural coloring is a criteria that I use for a number of excuses…of which I will not get into. All kidding aside, if the taste on this tea were any stronger I would probably not enjoy it; it’s the fact that it’s only a light overtone that makes it good for me. I also can’t see me drinking this often, but sometimes I crave a light, bright flavor from my tea and this is definitely going to be my right hand man.

@bothofy’all I haven’t been impressed with Bodum’s products in the past, but their drinkware is the shizz. I prefer drinking out of clear mugs mugs or mugs with a bright white interior so that I can enjoy the color of my tea. Bodum allows me to do that, PLUS it looks cool, PLUS it insulates! I want to buy sets and use them for EVERYTHING. [Though I do see myself needing to be careful about not burning my tongue, @aug3zimm. I already do that enough as is.]

Cofftea

I LOVE ADAGIO! steep.it is ok, but thishttp://www.amazon.com/Component-Design-TT1-Digital-Thermometer/dp/B0021AEA8U/ref=wl_itt_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=IKPH6HHANPYC4&colid=2VCAYFX9M6EJW is MUCH more exact. And multifunctional- it not only is a timer, but it’s a thermometer.

takgoti

I was looking at that the other day, and if I’m being honest will likely end up snatching one up. The thing I love about steep.it is the convenience of it, though. I can use it anywhere since I’m almost always near a computer.

OMG! This is so amazing. First off, I’m a big fan of lemon and lime, mostly lime. This tea has a very strong flavor of both. Mix that with a nice green tea and you my friend may have found my favorite tea. It’s only my first pot but man do I love it.

I’m going to have to check this out. If you like citrus, you should check out the Blood Orange Herbal from Adagio. It’s crazy. It tastes exactly like a white tea with a healthy helping of lemon.

Clintus

will do, thanks.

On a tip from Cofftea (http://steepster.com/Cait/posts/25139) I tried this again with cooler water and a shorter steeping time. That did bring out a little more taste, but not really a whole lot more — certainly nothing like what the other reviewers are describing — and it produced a very rough-textured tea as well. I think I shall just pour the rest of these sweet-scented leaves into a potpourri dish and look into obtaining a fresh batch for drinking.

This leads me to believe that it is indeed old and not just substandard- at least I hope that’s the case, being old can be remedied! Question… Where do you buy Jack’s Royale Jamaican Rum Tea? I’ve been looking for a rum tea since Adagio discontinued their’s.

Cait

I will keep my fingers crossed!

The rum tea is from a dealer I found through a science fiction convention, in fact! It’s the only rum tea I’ve ever had, so I don’t know how it stacks up that way, but it is sweet and very tasty: http://www.cyphrevoudou.com/the_albino_raven.html

I totally forgot that I had a sample bag of this. The dry smell of the green version is much more tart/bitter lemon than the rooibos. I remember really enjoying this one, but preferring the rooibos version of the same tea. It smells really grassy today. Overall it is really tasty! There are lots of lemon/lime notes. It doesn’t taste as “fruity pebbles-ish” as the rooibos and the base is much more in the forefront. A really good Adagio tea option.
