From Adagio Teas

Hand-rolled green tea from the Fujian province of China, infused with the delicate scent of night-blooming jasmine. Each pearl is made up of just one leaf and an unopened bud, which unfolds to release a delicate floral fragrance, and a liquor of soft texture and delicately dry finish. While these pearls are not the largest or the most evenly-rolled we’ve seen, we could not pass up the complex elegance of this tea and its quietly hypnotic jasmine fragrance. Fujian Jasmine Pearl is a treat for all jasmine lovers.

Grandpa brewed some of these pearls yesterday; I was amused that I had a teacup that matched the tin so spot on here!! These pearls were a gift during the holidays from a family member & not something I would have typically purchased for myself, though I did find them quite smooth. Being a person who isn’t very into jasmine teas or green tea, this won’t be a restock but I also don’t think I’ll struggle to finish this tea either…

Also, just gotta say that when I opened the Steepster page for this tea I saw that someone else has used “grape” as a flavour descriptor for this tea and seeing that made me SO EXCITED!! I always taste grape in jasmine teas, and I’m just elated that I’m not alone in finding that flavour note!

The difference between this Fujian Jasmine Pearl tea and the Jasmine Phoenix tea is very, very marked. Firstly, this Fujian tea is much more polite and refined about the jasmine flavor; you could call it muted, with almost hints of grape which high-quality jasmine is good for. It lingers on the tip of your tongue and is not very full-bodied, so it has a refreshing quality to it. The Phoenix pearls by contrast are overpoweringly jasmine, without the grape notes and more floral tones, and it’ll hog up your whole mouth. I see now why this is such high quality- to me, this is how a good jasmine tea should be. (I may even steep it five minutes to see if I can get just a wee bit more flavor from it. YUM!)

This is the BEST jasmine tea I have ever tasted!

I’ve never been a big jasmine tea fan until I realised that the big difference is whether a tea is artificially or naturally flavoured. Once I discovered delicately scented jasmine pearls, I went on a search for the very best taste, and this is it.

The smell is soft and divine; the taste is just right. The green tea is smooth and just a little vegetal with a natural, soft floral. It re-infuses extremely well. I like it up to the third cup.

The price tag is insane so this is definitely a special occasion tea that deserves to be savoured.

I feel like I want to like the tea more than I do. One of my favorites is Adagio’s Jasmine #12 pearls, so I figured I’d like their master’s collection tea better…but I don’t. The tea flavor is a bit more subtle, so I feel like the jasmine overpowers the base. All that being said, this is an enjoyable tea. The jasmine flavor is clear and the tea is easy to drink. I definitely like it, but I don’t love it.
