Sometimes when I start blending, I don’t have a clear idea of what the tea is going to be until I finish blending it – and sometimes it goes beyond that – sometimes, I don’t have a clear idea of what the tea is going to be until I’ve conducted my final taste test on the tea.

Such is the case with this tea. I knew I wanted a black tea. I knew I wanted to combine blackberry together with citrus. Not a strong, assertive citrus flavor – just enough to add a really perky brightness to the cup. After my first taste test, I decided that this blend needed some spice. So I added a little bit of freshly shaved nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. After my second taste test, I thought a creamy backdrop might be nice, so I added some vanilla.

With my third taste test – this taste test – I can happily say that I’m pleased with the result. The blackberry is the star flavor in this cup – sweet and juicy – followed by warm, cozy spice. The citrus (lime and bergamot) adds some brightness to enliven the palate and round out the flavors. The vanilla is off in the distance, it’s soft and sweet, and it gradually builds on the palate as I continue to sip.

Fantastic!

Ok, here’s hoping this works. I’ve taken to putting my tea reviews in word docs until I can post them. I’m hoping for the best with this steepster migration, but we’ll see.

Anyway, this is another one of the teas I got in Shae’s lovely care package. I will admit, I wasn’t sure if this was herbal or black when I made it, but they both require boiling water and I averaged the time at 4 minutes.

This tea is scrumptious. I’m gonna be honest, I can’t describe the flavor compared to any other real world food. But you very clearly get the spice, the citrus, and the berry here. And, surprise surprise, I’m not using sweetener in this! I usually add at least one splenda to any 52teas blend, but here, I took a sip without and it’s too delicious to add anything. The berry flavor gives just enough sweetness on it’s own to be yummy, while the warmth of the spice (which is offering a little bit of that mouth tingle I love so much) and the citrus on top just make for a wonderfully layered cuppa. Like I said, I can’t think of any actual foods that this resembles, flavor wise, but as it is, it’s delish and I can’t wait to have more.

Blackberry with citrus sounds wonderful. Into wishlist it goes

Ohh, is that spice cake I smell? I didn’t know what to expect with the berry, citrus, and spice combination, but the scent of the steeped tea at first smells like spice cake. I think the berry sweetness is contributing to the cake aspect in that it’s sweetening up the powerful spices. And of course, the vanilla bean helps too. But sniffing it more, I’m realizing that it smells a lot like my grandma’s carrot cake. OMG. My grandma has always been more generous with her spices whenever she makes carrot cake, so this is no surprise. It’s funny because the Pinita Colada Carrot Cake disappointed me because it didn’t smell or taste anything like carrot cake to me, yet this somehow smells like it? Go figure!

I’m sipping on this hot without any additives, and it tastes more like blackberry with cloves, then cinnamon and nutmeg behind that, than cake though. The vanilla and cake notes get lost flavour-wise. The citrus plays an incredible minor role. I can barely taste them, but I like it this way anyway. A lovely surprise.

I’d gladly order a larger size if I had the opportunity. How I wish the ones I wanted large sizes of would all be available at once so I could make one big beautiful order. Sigh.

I received this as a sample with a recent order. I wanted, so badly, to love it. I love the combination of berries and citrus and I don’t mind spices in black tea blends, but, unfortunately, the combination of ingredients just didn’t work for me. I didn’t find the level of spice to be overpowering, I just don’t think the flavors meshed well. Blackberry and lime is a flavor combination I can get behind. Blackberry and lime and vanilla and bergamot and cinnamon and clove…whoa. I would’ve liked more vanilla, and I think dried orange or tangerine or dried lime (or citrus peel, for that matter) would’ve been a nice addition. I try to avoid teas with bergamot in them because it’s just not a flavor I enjoy. It’s not a tea I would’ve purchased, but it was an interesting blend to try.

Not feeling this one. I like the berry aspect. I like citrus. I like spice. The combination of this, however, in my cup is not working for me. The berry is there. However, the citrus I am getting is the bitterness of lime rind. And the spice I am getting is mostly clove. The base is nice though coming through with occasional creamy notes. I’d like more berry. And possibly vanilla to sweep in and soothe the what to me are discordant flavours.

So I didn’t know this had bergamot until I started drinking but even with it, this is pretty good. It’s been in a travel thermos for most of the day but there is still a juicy blackberry flavor followed by bright citrus, all on top of spices. Sorry for the genetic description but I drank this earlier and that’s what I remember.

Evol Ving Ness

I’m going to have to revisit this.

VariaTEA

Do you still have some? If not I can add it to our swap

Evol Ving Ness

Good question, good question. Possibly. If only I had a spreadsheet. :)

No need to trouble yourself, but if you remember, cool. I’ve been a bit sidetracked myself with things here.

How are you feeling?

VariaTEA

I added it to the swap. And then I added other teas to the swap. I got to 66 so I am ready whenever you are :P.

Also, I am feeling alright. Thank you for asking. I have a neurologist appointment Monday and hopefully that’ll be the last of the tests.

Evol Ving Ness

Hopefully, it is all a bit nothing and life will go on as usual.

I’m currently behind with things, but this week I will make an effort to ramp up to 66. I’ll keep you posted.

Also, yay, way to go!

Lol no rush on my end. Just let me know when all is good :)

It’s a cold one today. It hasn’t been above 0 F since Tuesday around 1 am. Tomorrow it should get up to 4. Above! You know what that means? Yep, many, many cups of warm comforting tea!

This is the last of the teas from my recent 52Teas order (although I have a very generous free sample that I think I’ll try tomorrow.) The spices were cozy and warm, not in-your-face. You know how sometimes cinnamon can give you an odd feeling on your tongue, like it’s drying out? I don’t get anything like that here. The berry is slightly tangy, slightly sweet. I don’t care for bergamot, and I must not have red the description very well before ordering this, because it has bergamot. It’s not too strong, not enough to ruin the tea for me, although I think i would like it better with straight orange or lime. However, if you do like bergamot, that might be the bit that tips this tea into favorite territory. For me, this is a nice, sweet fruity/spice tea that is very warming on a cold day.

Cinnamon can make it or break it for me, but it really does depend on the kind of cinnamon. I am a bit wishy-washy with bergamot. I love the scent, but in tea, sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn’t. I am looking forward to seeing what 52Teas has done with this one.

I just had to try this concoction! Blackberries, bergamot, spices, oh my. I’d say the blend turns out pretty evenly balanced. I definitely taste hints of blackberry underneath the citrus (and it seems more citrus than a traditional bergamot, if that makes sense.) The spices aren’t too heavy and follow the fruit flavors on the aftersip. I would have liked to taste more vanilla, as there are supposedly vanilla beans in this blend. I was thinking there are blackberry leaves in the blend: NOPE, those are lime leaves. The first time I steeped this up, there was a big ol’ blackberry in the infuser! Overall, this isn’t really my dream tea, how I wished it would have turned out: more blackberry, traditional bergamot, more vanilla but I can live with this one. On the second steep it was reminding me of an old 52Teas favorite….. LEMON MERINGUE CHAI!!
Steep #1 // 1 heaping teaspoon for a full mug// 13 minutes after boiling // 3 1/2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 4 minute steep

Scheherazade

How I miss Lemon Meringue Chai! I wants it back, I does.

Yep, one of the 52Teas gems. :D

This makes a great morning warm cup of tea. When I drink this, I get a berry juiciness (that I wouldn’t be able to pin as blackberry) and a slight spiciness. I love cinnamon and this has a light savory cinnamon taste. I’m enjoying this.

Pretty good. Spices are warming. I don’t know if I get specifically blackberry, but berry come through strongly. Citrus sneaks in at end of sip. 81

This is the tea of the week this week – I’ll be adding it to the website very soon, but I wanted to first enjoy a cup of it as I didn’t take much time out today for a cuppa and I’m in desperate need of caffeine!

I wasn’t too sure where I’d end up with this tea until I got to the point where I was really pleased with it. I started out with just blackberry and bergamot and I wasn’t too terribly pleased with the end result so I decided to play around with it a bit. I added some vanilla bean and I liked that hint of creaminess that it added, but I felt like the tea still needed more. The bergamot – which is usually quite a bright, tangy flavor – just seemed to fall a little flat. Perhaps the berry sweet-tart flavor was a bit too much for the bergamot? I don’t know. So I added a little bit of lime and I liked the way this perked up the flavors. The blackberry tasted a bit more blackberry-ish and the bergamot, while somewhat demure, is pleasantly complemented by the notes of lime.

I wanted a little bit of warmth to round out the flavors so I added a little bit of clove, nutmeg and cinnamon to the tea and this added just enough spice without becoming too spicy or overpowering. At that point, when it came time to test – I was left with a smile on my face so I determined that this was the right destination for this tea journey.

A nicely rounded cup that’s a little bit sweet, a little bit tart, a little bit spiced and a whole lot wonderful!
