Tea of the Week for August 29, 2022/Featured New Blend for “Reblend August”!
This blend starts with a combination of Assam & Ceylon teas, then I add a touch of bergamot, allspice, nutmeg, loads of blackberries & blueberries & a kiss of my very own scone essence recipe. So YUMMY!
If you want to know more about my inspiration behind this blend – simply scroll down a bit and read on! For those of you who are already convinced that you need to try this tea (and you do!) – I’ll just say that it’s also organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-friendly & all natural!
organic ingredients: black teas, bergamot, blackberries, blueberries, allspice, nutmeg & natural flavors
more about this tea: this tea has quickly become a favorite of mine. Yeah, I know I probably call this tea or that one “my favorite” & if we’re gonna get technical on my choice of language there, a person can only have one actual “favorite”, I guess. So, then, to satisfy those who wish to police my choice of words, I’ll just say this: tea is my favorite. TEA. I love tea.
AND – I love this blend! I was inspired to create it by a social media post by a friend of mine – a lovely lady who used to work at my favorite tea room – she is an outstanding baker (she makes the most marvelous macarons ever) & she has an envy-worthy flower garden.
Anyway, one day, she posted a photo of scones she just baked – scones brimming with berries with notes of bergamot. So, that was enough to ignite sparks of inspiration for me: I needed to make an Earl Grey-ish tea, immediately! (Especially since the Earl Grey-ish tea that had been slated originally for “Reblend August” was something I was not able to blend as I didn’t have all the ingredients I needed at the moment. Worry not, that tea will be reblended in the very near future!)
This blend is lovely. The moment you open the pouch, your nose will be greeted with the beautiful aroma of bergamot as well as lovely notes of berry! The brewed cup is a bit lighter on the bergamot, both in fragrance as well as taste – but there’s enough there to let you know that it’s present. The berries are sweet & those flavors dance on the palate. The spice notes are delicate, just as they would be in a scone that is more about fruit & not so much about spice (but every baked good does need a bit of spice to please the palate!)
Put simply, this tea is a sumptuous delight! I love it!
to brew: shake the pouch to make sure you get a little bit of all the ingredients in the measurement! Use 3g of leaf/fruit to 12g of nearly boiling water (205°F) & steep for 3 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for at least 10 minutes. Enjoy!
serving suggestion: I like this one served hot because – I prefer freshly baked, warm scones to cold? – and while iced Earl Grey is absolutely lovely, I actually am one of those that prefers my Earl Grey-ish teas served hot. This doesn’t really need sugar to enjoy it, I quite liked it unsweet – but I found that a teensy bit of sugar (½ teaspoon of raw sugar, to be precise) brought out more of the scone-ish quality of the cup.
