37 Tasting Notes
The description sounds divine, the scent was amazing. This was actually the tea that I wanted to try so badly that I bought the Advent Calendar. It was a huge letdown for me – it was weak and not at all chocolate-y and doesn’t hold a light next to my much loved TWG Chocolate Earl Grey.
To be fair though, it wasn’t “offensive” like DT’s English Toffee. It was just…pu’erh that smelled like hot chocolate. So glad I didn’t order 50g!

Preparation
Out of all of the chocolate teas I got from David’s Tea, this one has to be my favourite. I’m not sure that says a great deal as I really loathed the others, but this one can be comforting when made with almond milk. The ingredients in this tea masked the alcohol taste that comes with the (dark) chocolate chips from this tea company. I certainly wouldn’t stock up again though.
I steeped this a little longer to ensure that the chips melted.

When I ran out of jumpy monkey from (2014) my Advent Calendar, I moved onto coffee cake. It smells like caramel and coffee cake, and it was wonderful with milk. I found this black tea to be comforting and I was grateful to have asked for this as a sample for all of my Christmas orders.
When I finished the sample, I went ahead and got another 100g. Although I do see bits of pineapple in it, I can’t taste it in the actual tea. I suspect that it may be because it has been candied within an inch of its life, and melted during the steep.
Flavors: Burnt Sugar, Caramel, Maple
Preparation
I really disliked this tea with full cream milk. It had the same issue as English Toffee – smelling divine, but steeped in disappointment. I had varied my steeping time but that did not eradicate the taste of alcohol that permeated the tea.
That is, until I added Silk (0g sugar) almond milk. The almond milk thickened the tea, and perhaps added the almond flavour that it was desperately lacking. It went from unbearable to not bad.
Flavors: Alcohol, Chocolate
Preparation
I loved the sample of this in the 2016 Advent Calendar, and bought myself 100g. This is a stimulant, so I usually save it for days when I really need the caffeine but couldn’t get my hands on a good cup of coffee. This tea has a comforting effect and satisfy my coffee cravings.
I usually drink this with a bit of almond milk to thicken it, otherwise, it tastes much too much like a weak cup of coffee.
Flavors: Burnt, Coffee
Preparation
Of all of the 24 teas in the advent calendar, this is one of the few that stood out for me. I loved the scent of this one – rich, buttery, caramel-y. Whereas a lot of David’s Teas tended to have a better aroma than test, the taste measures up well enough for this one.
I liked this one plain with no milk. It was a great way to end a heavy (carb-laden) meal, when you just can’t have a real dessert, and on rainy days when you want something light but comforting.
