16396 Tasting Notes
This was the other tea we brought with to the drop zone event yesterday; as an iced tea. While the hot tea we brought was popular, this one did INSANELY well. Part of that I’m sure was because it was a hot day, so the repellers would come down from the tower and would want something cold to drink – but I found that even I ended up going through about three different cups of it as well.
With each cup, I felt like I tasted the rosemary more and more. Which is great, because my biggest complaint when I first tried it was that I didn’t taste the rosemary as much as I wanted to be able to. So this was an improvement, for me!

So yesterday, for work, I got to hang out at this super cool event all day and hand out free cups of tea! Basically, it was an event where people got to repel down the tallest building here in Saskatchewan, to raise money for people living with disabilities!
Anyway, it was really cool to get invited to be there and to be a part of the event. It was REALLY amazing getting to watch all the super brave people participating, and the costumes were pretty incredibly done too.
We brought down two teas for the event, this was one of them – as a hot tea.
I don’t normally drink this one a lot personally because I don’t love green tea, but I found myself off and on sipping at cups of it throughout the whole day. I mean, when you only have two tea options you work with what you’ve got.
Lighter flavour than I remembered it having, but with sweet apple notes! Very juicy, with tiny little whisps of the pear/quince. The quince makes it more floral tasting. Very, very fitting as part of the autumnal collection this year. It’s cider-like without being smacked in the face with tartness. I actually appreciated having it around a lot yesterday; it was very pleasantly comforting.
And, I think everyone else liked having it around too. It’s just that kind of perfect balance of flavours so that it appeals to A LOT of different people.

Boyfriend was/is highly freaked out by the idea of root beer flavoured tea.
I brought this one with me to his house last week; I told him he’s just gonna have to get used to me bring tea along with me everywhere the same way he brings multiple watches with him. It’s a security sort of thing – also, I know that the only teas he has at home are the ones I’ve bought for him. And I’m not a huge fan of most of the ones that he likes…
So – he may think root beer tea is weird, but I fucking love root beer teas and I was so confidant in Anne’s ability to blow this one out of the water that I made sure to grab a large size of it because I was not going to fall in love with a root beer tea yet again only to run out of it really quickly. #TeaInsurancePolicies?
Only really critcisims are that I thought the cinnamon in the blend was a little heavy handed, and the finish was a touch astringent – I think a somewhat lighter steep time could definitely fix the latter. Plus, both of those things are really minor because other than those two small things I think that the root beer flavour REALLY came through beautifully, and was super enjoyable.
I’m very, very happy with this one!
(Also; if root beer weirds him out just wait until he sees some of the other strange ones I have; like black bean or any of the bacon ones – which only just scratch the surface)
I’m really happy that you enjoyed this – however – there’s no cinnamon in this blend? I’m only really commenting on that point because I’m curious and always wanting to learn what I might have done differently. :)
Iced Sipdown (332)!
Thanks once again VariaTea for sending me more of this one!
I added some milk to this one, and the flavour was really beautiful creamy pineapple with soft, sweet apple undertones. It looked like the banana medicine you get as a child: florescent yellow…
I’m so sad this one didn’t come back this year – but maybe next year.

Mmm!
Very comforting morning cuppa before work from earlier in the week. It was weird though because the cinnamon notes were so strong, but with a surprising level of sweetness to them. I found myself almost thinking more of cinnamon sugar, than of Chai. With this sweet, fruity pop of apricot in the finish. Like some sort of pastry/baking!? Very off beat, for what this tea normally tastes like/reminds me of.
Still very good though, and not an unwelcome flavour profile.
Boyfriend and I went out to supper a few weeks ago;
I stopped at the mall while I was waiting for him to get off work and I grabbed a tea while I waited. I got this one iced, with a hint of honey in it. I wanted the comforting quality of the toasty brown rice – but didn’t really have time to wait for a hot tea to cool down and it was pretty hot out, so I didn’t want to walk to the restaurant with a hot tea in hand.
The restaurant was REALLY lovely! He picked it; it’s his favourite in the city. It’s this very quiet, out of the way Korean and Japanese fusion restaurant that was a little out of my comfort zone food wise, but the aesthetic? Just gorgeous! We sat in this booth in the corner, and I love it – it was out of the way, and the lighting was really romantic…
I was surprised by the amount of diverse vegetarian options too! I ended up going for a vegetarian roll dish with an alfalfa sprout salad with this weirdly good sauce that was both very creamy and very spicy. Mmm! And we shared fries, because fries. It was kind of weird to be eating fancy sushi and fries though it tasted GREAT.
Also; nothing is both as equally embarrassing and adorable as watching your massive dork of a boyfriend dance to Uptown Funk SUPER poorly in this nice, quiet restaurant just so he can make you laugh…
It was a good time! Tea was a great start to the date. The rest of the evening was equally lovely! I’m super lucky to have this guy in my life right now.

Hot this time!
I think I may actually like the hot tea more than the iced! It comes off as a little more flavourful and sweet to me, with less of that soft cream/floral element and a more evenly balanced mix of peach and pear flavours. It’s still very ‘dewy’ though.

Cold Brew!
Looks like we’ve found another to add to the list of cold/iced teas that my sister will actually drink! We’re now at a solid… three options?

Flavors: Berries, Raisins, Raspberry
Nabbed 100g of this really recently for only $2.50! I couldn’t even remember if I liked this tea, but for that low a price? I’m gonna find out if I did!
I made this one as a latte – I couldn’t remember if it was actually latte-able though; there’s a lot of fruit in this that could cause it to curdle, and I just couldn’t remember. So I took the gamble. It didn’t curdle, so I think the risk paid off.
It tastes like Christmas! I mean, it’s the middle of summer – so that’s a little weird/out of season, but it’s fucking delicious! It’s such a great mix of warming spices, nuts, and fruits. Mostly apple, in the case of the latter. I love, love, love the pistachio paired with the fruit and the spices. It’s fruit cake, essentially, done REALLY well. But with gingerbread spices!
I’m definitely glad I grabbed this one!

Cold Brew!
Stole some of my mom’s stash of this for a cold brew – I’m not using up MY precious reserve of it until I absolutely have to. She doesn’t need to know that, though…
This was delicious, but also different since it got cold brewed for a while longer than planned. For example, it was REALLY apple heavy and normally the apple doesn’t really come through in a noticeable way at all. The jasmine was also a little stronger than normal; but very natural, and worked well with the custardy creme brulee elements like it always does. Very interesting how a few hours extra steep time so drastically changes the profile, though!

This is what I told my oldest when I tried it iced and hot, that I get a lot of the rosemary coming through and little strawberry. She politely told me I was insane. Good to know I am not alone in the rosemary taste department.
